- This supervillain by Todd McFarlane simply needs no introduction. Conclusively, the most recurring villain of the 90s comic book series, this horrifying clown and the archnemesis of Spawn just cannot be taken lightly. Now, a lot of you might hold DC’s Joker right on top of the list of the most terrifying clowns but we’d urge you to rethink and bestow the title on this constant tormentor instead. If you have ever had a doubt regarding the extreme nature of Spawn’s comic book roots, well, look no further than this character here!
Introduced in the second issue of Spawn, The Violator was first sent to Earth as the demonic guardian to Spawn. In all likelihood, you have seen him as an overweight, bald guy, say about 3 feet 10 inches and with some clown paint on his face in the shape of an M. Okay, that is his disguise because his true demonic form happens to be a widely disproportionate, ferocious looking nightmare with an inclination towards murder and mayhem. Throughout the series, Violator is shown to look for ways to torture Spawn like it’s his hobby and while it is true that Violator has been killed countless times, he has managed to come back every single time somehow way more powerful and deadlier than the last.
Before we dive into his origins and explore the intricate aspects of his character, we’d like to share something that we think a lot of you did not know. You might as well wonder how is it that Todd McFarlane came up with such an interesting name in the first place? Well, full credits to a cold, rainy night that had McFarlane waiting inside his car for his wife. He chanced upon a sign on the wall that stated ‘No parking anytime. All violators will be towed.’ That is when the name caught his attention and he thought how nasty would a name like Violator sound as a villain’s. The rest as you all know is history!
So, coming back to today’s video, we will be talking about The Violator and explore in detail the origin of the most horrifying villain from the Spawn Universe. You better be ready for this!

John Leguizamo was great as The Violator, he really brought the character to life.
He practically carried the entire movie.
@@konstantinkoverchenko9587 Agreed 100%
Agreed. His performance is not discussed enough in my opinion. I totally agree with you 💯
U were tied 2 that track and that stupid train kept running over ya didn't it lol
Now thats underrated role for one of the most underrated actors. The guy is a true performance artist.
The animated series was SO GOOD. It was like a noir graphic novel.
Bro it’s the best animated series ever made for adults wish Violator had more fight scenes with spawn the fight scene in the church roof top was pure epicness
Ifkr I grew up with this show. Made me sad to be the only one in school who watched it.😭
Yea cuz the movie was trash. The modern take places Jamie foxx as Simmons. Not looking forward to that.
And the voice acting was superb.
Todd McFarland need to bring that animated series back on the real!!!!! 💯
It's the whole suit that's alive not just the cape, its a demon symbiote and its name is K-Leetha 7. Mcfarlane also created Venom so if the concept sounds familiar and you realize the suits look really similar that's why.
That's Fugging Sick!!!
@@SiriusZiriux he also hates the long tongue venom got later
The suit also had a violent tendency to attack or murder anyone who wasnt the owner of the suit. Just like when of the homeless men was trying on the mask goofing around, the mask tried to suffocate him.
Ahhh- that’s makes sense. I didn’t know he created Venom. Thanks!
@@johnlawful2272 Same.
“I’m not the Vindicator, or the Victimizer, or the Vaporizer or the Vibrator! I’m….. the VIOLATOOOOOOORR”
Honestly, Spawn is full of rich characters and I'd love to see more breakdown videos on it's universe.
Actually they're pretty one dimensional
@@metaloverload7374 idk what you mean at all. Very cool qnd complex characters
@@joshlasky8138 LOL Ovetkill Tremor and The Curse are three of the most one dimensional characters made. Also there's Ab and Zab. The Redeemers (Mind you Eddie was a good character though.) Not all of Spawns villains are one dimensional but many are. Also the last good Spawn story was the night of a thousand clowns and Armageddon. Anything after these were ass. Also nothing really happened in Spawn for the first fifty issues. Then something happened when they sent Spawn to hell for the first time.
It got better in the current 325 issues and king spanw and gunslinger spanw are good there is also an upcoming team book the scorched
@@vikingfromnorth45 I'm sorry but that sounds like Todd's answer to Spiderverse. Comic bookie as hell. Bring back Brian Hulgin and Phillip Tan.
"Ess to the Pee to the Ay to the Worn X2, go Spawney, go Spawney"
"Just a freak accident with some jiffy pop"
HBO spawn was the single best animation show ever.
Ended way too soon.
They need to bring it back!
I was just watching Spawn last week. I remember trying to find the physical movies and it took me forever. They should definitely pick this back up and and continue because there are so many stories that can be told of Spawn.
agreed!
Agreed!!!!
Violator is a fantastic character, much deeper than anyone wants to give him credit for. I always felt for the little guy. He was just doing his job, and he did it so well he became blinded to the fact he was being used.
I've met a few humans that were basically a violator
@@travislupumyeah...I think of mob and cartel hitmen. Useful to the organization for doing it's dirty work, but also expendable and easily thrown to the wolves if needed
Spawn is one of the best-animated series ever to have been produced. So glad that it won an Emmy.🏆
Facts love that show straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Better than the movie by far
@@thaimperial97 Spawn needs to be rated R, that's for sure. I hate when they make dark themed movies PG-13, kinda ruins the point.
I loved that the video showed the "get with the fucking program." Quote from the show, that pops randomly into my head, to this very day.
The symbiote Monster in MVC:Infinite's story mode looked very Violator-Inspired which makes sense given that Todd McFarlane co-created Venom.
Oh shoot lol Venom lowkey does look like a fusion of Spawn and Violator.
I remember when I was a kid .. I’d watch Spawn the animated series and I remember thinking this is so dark and so mature.. then the live action movie came out .. and it was PG-13 .. go figure
The movie was actually cut 21 times to get a PG-13 rating
@@PirataMundoTV wow. In my opinion they should’ve made the movie more like the animated series.... hopefully they will reboot Spawn one day
@@SNESfan8 yeah, the animation has the perfect script, I agree.
They have an unrated version out. It's the directors cut.
Not only that but it was trying way too much effects-wise for its time. If someone did a Spawn movie in 2010 it would be so much better. Unfortunately, it was also a product of the 90s so....
The animated series was a raw ruthless kick ass show
"Kick add"? Or "kick buyy"?
"SEE YA AT WANDAS!!!"
I wouldn’t say that Spawn beat the Violator in hell easily… I took one of the most powerful incarnations of Al Simmons ever to harness the entire power of hell which is a virtually infinite expanse across trillions of dimensions and realities to barely beat Violator who had no power amps.
1:43 yes the name violator is a good villain name it really fits his character too so perfectly.
The Violator knows his power but the Spawns he is in charge dont know the scale of their powers so Violator is a bully to start with.
Looking back I think the Spawn movie was more awesome than I remember it to be. That one and Blade were the true R rated antihero movies before all that Marvel and DC shared universe thing. I remember having it on VHS, good times 👍🏻👍🏻
You gotta give Michael jai credit for his portrayal
I do
Love the comics, still follow them today. The HBO animated series ROCKED and hopefully Todd brings it back.
Spawn invented the Nemesis system nailed it
I loved Violator's design in the comics. And it was well made in the live action too. But it wasn't until I watch the movie that I realize that he looks very similar to a giant gremlin
The movie version was too short n stubby. More fat than the comic n animated version as well. I just didn't like the movie version of Violator. He was like almost totally opposite of who Violator is
I still have my Spawn no.1 comic book. I’m so glad my mom kept all my comic books for when I was little. I also still have my Batman v spawn and spawn v Batman.
John Leguizamo killed it as the Violater
Ironically, I'm more relaxed looking at him as a demon than being a clown and I'm not afraid of clowns.
I love the idea that the Violator was basically inspired by a parking ticket warning.
He's clearly a deathclaw
Yeah, I imagined those ugly deathclaw animations as violator when I was a child playing the first fallout lol
Woooooow you just blew my mind 🤣
Lmao I hate those fucking deathclaws used to scare the 💩 outta me especially at night time 😂🤣
He is nowhere near a damn death claw
I love when there are real life occult inspirations/connections to badass demon lore! The Violator is an Enochian Angel!!!
🤔😂😂 That's a bit of a stretch!! There's no thing to support that.
@@JohnDoe-qz1ql How can you say that when it explains Violator's lore in this video? It's origins are directly related to John Dee...
Spawn"I fucking hate clowns"
Lmao 🤣😂
Watched the spawn live action movie in the cinema in the 90s. The clown from hell was hilarious.
Me and my cousins would playfight as heroes and villians, spawn being one of them.
I pretended to be the violator one time, and i beat my cousin (Spawn) he went inside sulking. And my mother asked him whats wrong, and his younger brother says "He was just violated by the violator."
It didnt end well, for the four of us. 😅
It sounds creepy, but you hit a childhood memory lane. Between TMNT(80/90s), Spawn is another level of fan. I had all comics from #1 to #200 comics
Dude the job John Leguizamo did as violator, made me love him as an actor.. wow for me he freaken killed it👌👌👌👌😈
I so much loved the animated series, I dont think there was any other heroes animation as good as that one. A true classic
Same👍🏾I just re-watched it for the probably 30th time. It was just that good. I remember seeing it when it originally aired. Best animated adult feature I ever saw
Dude they have to redeem themselves from the first one they did. It actually had a lot of strong areas. Acting was really good. It was the CGI that was just lacking. It came out after Independence Day. So there were some solid CGI studios and teams out there. New one have Spawn and The Violator and also utilize that plethora of crazy violent characters Seth imagined and brought to life. Male billions off Spawn doing it right. And it has to be a hard R
Honestly an updated remake has been LONG overdue
Who tf is seth?
No please don't. At least not right now. The franchise will get "re-imagined".
@@iLikeMenthol oh I fully agree with you, but it does still need a remake and it’s an independent comic company so they don’t have to change anything to suite a “PC” standard
Yesir. Anything less than what you described would be trash. A hard R rating as well.
Why do I want to play "Spawn: In The Demon's Hand" right now?
I love this channel !
that beast from that episode of monster lab looks like the violator
See everybody thinks that CGI wasn’t far enough along to do what Spawn needed but that’s not true. CGI was definitely up to par it’s just they didn’t have the budget for it. Jurassic park came out in 93 and those VFX still hold up today. Maybe even better. Lost world came out the same year as Spawn.
That's because the original Jurassic Park used very minimal CGI. It was 90% practical effects and animatronics.
Imagine Spawn and Violator vs. Alucard and Dracula from the Anime Show Hellsing, interesting Fight/Battle. Imagine the Violator vs. the Creeper from the Jeepers Creepers Films, interesting fight/battle!
Alucard is dracula you dip
Sounds like a buncha bullshit kind sir
Bios on more or all the original spawn villains plz!!!!!!
Absolutely!!! Would be quite fun!:)
The voice actor was awesome in the animated series
Now this is what I'm fucking talking about new content. I got a little tired of the alien and Predator videos
Spawn always suffered from McFarlane's limited writing ability. Violator's been around for 400 years and had two things, overcoming his brothers and Spawn, and he only succeeded with one of them.
That's a bold claim
Well lucky Spawn got a reboot
What’s 400 years to a timeless demon?
@@srsucioguapodelsur8845exactly c like I’m LOTR the elves are like 10,000 years old lol
Wearing my Violator T shirt as i watch this.
Anything spawn, please do it all. It's my favorite comic series.
Facts
I always wondered why the animated series just stopped and didn't continue. I have always loved Spawn. I really loved the movie as a kid and still enjoy it.
it was a financial thing.i hated how they didn't really do the hell thing
@@kevintoone3901 Yeah, it aged pretty poorly graphics wise now. The rest of the movie is still good though.
Just watched this movie with my son after not seeing it since I was his age, 11. Awesome movie with awesome actors. really wish they’d make another game and have Michael Jai White do spawn
Amazing how he came up with the name. Thanks for the video
This comic book movie is on point, everyone look like the jumped off the comic, no bullshit interpretation.
Damn I loved the 90s movie. I was born in 89 and I remember when that movie came out it absolutely blew my socks off.
The power to burst through wooden walls effortlessly.... so he's a Kyle?
People all of the sudden are interested in spawn. I love it.
Keith David did an amazing job doing voice work for the AS, I remember seeing it when I was younger and realizing it was the voice of Goliath from gargoyles
This guy is one of the most iconic spawn villains.
Enjoyed this a lot 😆
Now I know where cho’gath’s looks come from.
"Joker maybe the best but rethink that"
Violator is a demon something that doesn't exactly exist
Joker is a man a every day person anyone can become
*Spawn against Joker:* "I f*cking hate clowns."
I love this channel so much !!!!!!!
My favorite new school thrash metal band when I was a teenager, never knew about the demon part
john leguizamo played the clown in the live action.
A giant dried gecko with horns and his favorite colour is violet 😅
Spawn the movie was way ahead of it's time
I love Clown/Violator. The character is so evil it’s almost comical.
Nice vid!!
Awesome video man. How about doing Jason Wynn/Redeemer. Another very intresting McFarland creation from Spawn
I love this channel
I really enjoyed the video
I loved John Leguizamo as violater but I always thought Danny Devito would have made an awesome clown
Love when he says “just a reminder, get with the FUCKING program!”
I remember the movie! John leguizamo was great and quite the devotion to scoot around on his knees the entire movie! Also the improvised part was the cherry on top when he ate the maggot pizza
That was real btw but u probably already know that
what's that background music? Sounds cool, really retro
Man, I missed out on a TON of Spawn lore.
I never read the comic or anything but I some how came across the movie when it came out. That fucking clown was my absolute favorite part of the movie!
Spawn would definitely benefit from a remake!
Yes,but I don't think this is the right time. Superhero movies are getting consistently worse and PC. Maybe in five years or so
@@alejandrovillalba3143 good point!
@@alejandrovillalba3143 in 5 years or so it’ll be much worse. Are you daft? You think the pc crowd is going to ease up as time goes on? It’s ok to dream
@@alejandrovillalba3143 make yourself aware of the 2030 agenda. You’re welcome
I'd love to see a remake. I think it's been long enough.
John Leguizamo is one of the great actors of our time.. he nailed his role.. Spawn is a Great Series and story.. lol "The Sad man"
The Shadow of Spawn manga was one of Violator's more interesting depictions.
I have all the old comics in my basement . I think i resurrect them on christmas
They need to make a remake of spawn
Is it just me or is his human form giving Danny Divito vibes…
4:48 nice literal read of the script.
John Dee was not merely a mathematician. He was legitimately an alchemist.
That's crazy I never knew that about Violator
His background story is very so-so, but
man these comic panels look wilddd
That's the result of the Joker's auditions of Dany Devito xD
The joker is the clown prince of crime but the violator is the clown prince of Hell
Darkness vs Spawn is the comic we need..
Violater is so UNDERRATED! I know (at least in my comic circles in NYC) towards the end of the 90s "McFarlane fever" was wearing thin (pouches, jackets and BFGs only go so far) but IMHO he changed the game! Kinda like Puff (excuse me "Diddy")did with Mase and the "shiny suits"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm ready for a new series or movie.
I wish they would continue the animated series.
Heart wrenching story of THE most dangerous
Spawn the movie was way ahead of it time. Very dark film !
The animated Keith David series are my favorite.
This video speaks to me
He makes a cameo in soul calibur 2 Xbox port.
You totally do a video on the urizen. A monster so powerful it to the entirety of both heaven and hell’s forces combined to stop it.
I don’t understand why Spawn isn’t being used in movies or especially animation.
I would love to see an R rated 2022 spawn film, the improved CGI would be amazing
