Playing Microsoft Creative Writer (1994) on Windows 98SE

- Taking a quick look at Creative Writer by Microsoft on my Windows 98XP machine. Hope you enjoy the video!
This was recorded using real hardware, not emulation, and captured with the pc's monitor output set to 640x480 resolution in order to properly fill the screen using the original media's size and then up-scaled to 1440x1080 through a capture card.

This game was such a blast when I was younger and I played it on our family IBM Aptiva computer, the first PC in our household. I spent so many hours messing around with this game doing I don't know what because I was too young to really know what I was doing but I'll never forget it. I wish I could go back in time and teach 8 year old me how to create and print stuff with this program but there was plenty of fun and entertaining things to explore or click on so it never really bothered me. Thanks for the upload, this is a slice of my childhood 25 years ago and its bittersweet

My first computer was also an IBM Aptiva. Now I'm wondering if that was many people's first computer. My family got it in 1996 and we all shared it.

20 years man! I have very vague memories of this running on a computer at my kindergarten school in 2003/2004, and I carried it with me ever since. Recognized by the thumbnail.
I’m fairly certain that years worth of using Fine Artist as a kid is what got me into digital illustration. Could you imagine if they remastered this for modern day?

Thank you for uploading the video. It was in 2003 when I was tinkering with this software on a PC in the classroom of the kindergarten I used to attend. Even though I was a child who didn't know the alphabet, I remember enjoying things like sound effects and movies!
However, in that very rural kindergarten in Japan, I wonder who prepared this software...

Bless you for posting this. I still have my oldl floppies (if I remember correctly, CW was a whopping _three_ disks!), but I haven't had an old enough machine in years. I was excited to see it again, but I underestimated how lovely it would be to *hear* it again! What wonderful memories.

Wow! This video was made only a year ago! I'm pleasently surprised to see someone is still thinking about these old IBM pack in games. Man, I love this one so much. I wish I could run it on my current PC. These old Windows games were life.

Forgot all about this! I loved this software, the graphics and sounds all came rushing back. Came across it when looking for another kids software I played where I think you colored or moved around items/looked for stuff in a room in a house with a cat? Only played it for a weekend at my uncle's over 25 years ago.
Back when my cousins and I were really little we used to jam this on my nanas windows 95. I ended up with the PC unfortunately though I got made to get rid of it in the end. Wish I had kept it tbh, these old games were so much fun. Thanks for bringing back a few memories!

This takes me back to the 90s when I was a kid. Future looked exciting full of adventures. Now is just wifi, social media and Tik tokers. Millionaires showing their stupid cars and whores buying louis Vuitton. This wasn't the future I imagined.

My school had this on their computers. What I got my first computer I wanted it but my parents said they couldn’t find it. They got me Creative Writer 2. It wasn’t as good.

I remember using this program for my homeworks, I didnt have any office program back then but I had this, it used 3 1/2 diskettes to install it, it needed 3. Also had Fine artist too but Ive lost the disks. I still own the original boxes from both programs. Do you know if this program works with Windows 10? I think I downloaded them from a server a while ago and It used to work with Windows ME.
I also used this for homework when I was a kid :)
I have the CD-ROM version, I just tried to install it on Windows 10 but it didn't let me, this does work with Windows XP if you have another older computer lying around.
Microsoft needs to release a 3rd edition of Creative Writer (and also a 2nd edition of Ghostwriter Mysteries) as much as a 2nd edition of Nickelodeon 3D Movie Maker
1. Replace the godawful McZee character with someone useful (TJ Combo, Banjo-Kazooie, Zitz, etc)
2. Bring back the fictional world of Imaginopolis
3. Replace the godawful McZee font with a different font (Arial, Times New Roman, Innerstar, etc)

I'm using a pc I built with old parts specifically to play these types of games, however, you could also create a virtual machine to emulate an old system and run it from your modern pc.
