- mikeyeldey95 is a new game for the Sega Genesis that provides a Windows 95 simulation experience. When the developer contacted me a while back and sent me an advanced copy, I thought it would make for a great video. So let's check it out!

Thank you so much for sharing this! Your deep dives on Windows were such an inspiration for making mikeyeldey95
Add a windows mode! (Makes all the mikeyeldey stuff back into windows)
you look like tim cook
You did a fantastic job :) From everything featured to the UI design is amazing :)
Quick detail I wanna add - the songs in ME-DOS use the old chip inside the Sega Genesis that is backwards compatible for Sega Master System games. So kind of like how Win95 is backwards compatible with DOS stuff, I arranged those songs in the game to play on the older chip
will you do a patch that uses the sega mouse?
Actually, there WAS a mouse accessory made for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. it was called the Sega Mouse or Mega Mouse depending on your region.
YES! Wacky Worlds, the stickerbook like game, had it as a pack in item!
There is a rom hack of Sonic 1 that lets you play the game with the mouse.
RUclipsr redhotsonic took a look at it actually.
I had the mouse. The only game I had where it was useful was Eye of the Beholder (CD). (Still have the game, but the mouse, not so much.)
This is so cool, definitely considering buying a physical copy.
Yo! We found eachother yo
You can get also MacOS for it(forgot how, but it can run System 7.0.6)
Purchased a physical copy. This is such a cool and cheeky fan project, and a super cool way to promote a new album. This is the kind of passion I love to see from artists.
Turning the Ambulance virus into a game is hilarious! Seriously, if I had a Sega Saturn, I'd like to get one 💖
Sega genesis
This is amazing already, I can only imagine what he'd be able to do with all the space on a CD. He could even do a few mini games that say "not enough RAM" when you don't have a 1mb or 4mb cart lmao.
*genesis
I love how esoteric some of your content is. Diving in right now!
Love that Sega Genesis still had people programs a apps/games for it
I always fantasised about having a sega mega drive with a sega cd +32x with a cartridge that expands the ram to 16mb and using it as a decent 90s computer.
Theoretically possible. Probably a total PITA to create though. Edit: there was a cartridge that added save slots for CD games. Could use that as storage and/or swap space. Hmm... 🤔
Well, it at least uses the 68000, so maybe Amiga Workbench or Debian would be possible.
@@eriksiers wouldn’t you just need 256kb of extra RAM?
@@sloppynyuszi I guess I don't know enough about either AmigaOS or the Genesis/Mega Drive to say for sure either way. Would be interesting to try.
Is there a keyboard for the Mega Drive?
Mad stoked to see the creator is from British Columbia! I'm from the Okanagan Valley myself and it's great to see creators like this putting BC on the map! 🙂
Same here, awesome to see, and I'm in the Kootenay Boundry here in BC too
This is an amazing interactive art piece and love letter to 90s tech culture.
This is so awesome
It’s always so awesome to see people release new stuff for old machines and consoles. Good on him! Super entertaining. Thanks for the video :-)
Love your content Michael! Hope to see more content soon and your moving has been very smooth!
thank you for sharing this with us!! it brought back so many memories of being a teenager :)
hey michael its been a while but thanks for entertaining me over the years this channel is by far my fav to binge watch on rainy days also #roadto300k !
Hey, I know most people have already done this, but I have played this on real hardware and it works like a charm!
It would be nice to see this with the Sega Mouse support.
I hunted for this comment. I second this.
and maybe an attempt at using a higher resolution mode to get some extra screen real estate?
oo this is an interesting video, never thought i would read a title like this one lol, thanks for the food content MJD keep it up!! and thanks mike for making this video possible
You said the "Tortured Souls" tune gives you a DOOM vibe? Well, that tune was named after the Excel easter egg "Hall of Tortured Souls", which plays just like DOOM!
Finally, I've always imagined windows on a Sega Genesis, now 2 of my favourite things get a crossover
This channel is really good, I swear!
Two new Michael MJD videos in the same week? What a time to be alive.
This channel is freakin amazing
Pretty cool having the bliss wallpaper in the background!
This is really cool and lots of work for sure.
Reminds me of what Microsoft did for their Windows games collection on the GameBoy Color.
Reminds me of Remute's "Technoptimistic" album, as that was also released on the Sega Genesis.
Cp2077
There's also a few other fairly recent ones, like YM2017, YM2020, and Future 2612.
@@lazsynth Maybe one day Inverse phase will release his cartridge too. It's taking so long. Maybe I should contact him again.
Awesome video, Michael!
Wha- how- okay, I'm just not going to question this.
Nice your bisexual im Genderfluid and abrosexual
@kevinwong_2016 ??? you like afros??? what???
95 was good but I miss 98. . . . 98 and XP were the best so far.
Same I miss windows 98
well mega drive is not compatible in 98 environment.
@@CarinoGamingStudio true
98, XP, 7, 10 have been solid really
Thank You So Much "Michael MJD" for Uploading This Video This Video Really Suits me Cause I'm Really Big Fan of Sega Genesis 16bit Console and My Favorite Console of All Time!! Appreciate That!!
Thank you so much for you great contents! these videos inspire a lot of people and teach a lot of things to a lot of people like me!
Thank you very much!
Dude's 15 years old?!
This is super rad!
this is so fucking sick. def throwing this on my flashcart!
I live just a hop skip and a jump away from Mike's place......nice to see someone from PG making something this cool and interesting........the last thing that I found exciting in PG was back in 2017 when there was massive forest fires in the province and Prince George was one of the cities that people were evacuated to
This is all of my weird, niche interests rolled into one package. Fantastic!
We had windows 98 on the NES, now get ready for this
Wonderful piece of art
That was some good stuff right there! 👍
I uploaded it to my MiSTer, works great 😊 A neat little attention to detail is in credit is that in PAL mode it congratulates you and says Mega Drive instead of Genesis! Now to put in on Everdrive Pro for real hardware!!!!
this is incredibly cool
Ok this is next level of astonishing
Very interesting, more effort put Into this than I expected
I should try this on my megadrive mini
Awesome!
Super cool!
This is awesome. Definitely a good laugh.
Very cool and love flappy Mike
this is actually really cool ngl
This is hella awesome
This is amazing
This is going to be a GREAT video!
(But when will there be a retrospective video on INTERNET EXPLORER!?)
I wonder how hard it would be to make that email program actually functional. Like can you imagine being able to message your friends on the Sega Genesis?
Put those old SegaNet modems to use!
There was a bunch of unofficial NES-based home computers in China in the 90s before PCs become affordable for most families. They usually come with a cartridge which emulates a Windows 95/98 desktop just like this. Maybe someday you can have a try. Great video!
Some products like Yuxing and Bubugao even make some available office softwares which can interaction with floppy driver, printer etc. And users also able to develop their own programmes with 6502 assembly language on it. That's amazing, a real NES-based PC.
@@user-mg3pc9tn4n oh yes! OH YES!
Fascinating
The fact that I like it more than the actual Windows 95 is frekkin' amazing! Great job mikeyeldey!
What a passion project! If it had the Mystery Screen Saver it would be the Chefs Kiss!
This is pretty much the equivalent of these parodies of Windows in SWF format that were shared across the Web, which is why i like this so much. Also, there is a very nice reference to the Ambulance DOS virus at 13:51, together with LOVELETTER.
this is brilliant
I love the Geocities easter egg Mike put in. Geocities was a fun place to be.
I used to watch the maze screensaver and imagine it was playable, so this is like a dream come true :D haha
This is great stuff!
Lol, the graphics of the 3d maze are phantasy star maze edits, I just ripped them a couple of months ago :v
What a neat idea.
so far an interesting look
This game is an absolute masterpiece! 👍
Sega Genesis more than 30 years, then came to Windows 95 PC. The turning point.
Awesome. Imagine having that kind of software skills to make something like this.
that first song bumped!
Its always pretty cool to see Windows running on consoles ( even if is just a simulation ).
In case there are people who want to know what other stuff you can get to your "Inbox"... Here's at least couple of things I discovered that MJD did not in this video.
First of all, you need to finish 3D Maze without Minimap to get a "message" from Maze Rat congratulating from your hard efforts getting through the maze.
Secondly, in a Hacky Sack game, you need to score at least 25 points to get a "message" from Hack E. Sack for being "radical" enough to score that many points.
These are just my observations when I was messing around with it, and I just wanted to let people know that there was more to this that MJD could not provide.
Now the physical cartridge is cool and all, but if possible, why not go all the way with a CD version for the Sega CD addon? Now it might seem a little bit unnecessary, but I feel it would add a little more immersion you know? To load in an actual disc into the Genesis and for it to load Windows 95 is just a really cool idea. Not only immersion but the sound quality could be improved as well, having actual CD quality sounds and music would be awesome.
the cd version could be an installation disc simulator
Sega CD version would need the Weezer video all Sewer Shark and Night Trap style!
That is really well done! The only thing I'd change is the email after the elevator crash. It should be 49.7 days 😎
What's really funny is that probably no one had their system stay up for that long anyway. I wonder if it's a sign of lacking faith in your own product that they didn't use a 64-bit counter, like they didn't think it would or could stay up that long before BSoD'ing.
@@anon_y_mousse or it was a Windows NT selling point conspiracy?
@@SwaggingWithBen I doubt it, but it is possible. I think it was just sheer negligence, probably because back in those days making the counter 64-bit would've taken more effort. If you watch Dave's Garage you can see plenty of examples of low effort hacks for Windows.
awesome idea - I didn't think of that!
Awesome
Those modern social media icons on a 90s-style UI is incredibly cursed.
God, the spectre of modern social media and all its crap in the 90s is terrifying to think about.
The 90s was the last time we were truly free
@@MrEdrftgyuji true
@@MrEdrftgyuji You can still be free.
@@MrEdrftgyuji Come on, let's bring on those silly clichés!
Awesome. Someone needs to do something like this for web tv.
These get crazy!
By crazy I mean it’s crazy how people can make this!
Pretty neat. I'll be getting this for sure, try it out on real hardware.
Amazing.
saw this right after cybershell uploaded lol perfect timing
An ad played right after the elevator started falling! That’s funny
Cool! :)
This is very similar to my entry for MacHack 1993 where I did similar with Mac OS. Didn't make more than the one cartridge, but I had shirts.
Reall coo!
Awww was expecting the web browser to actually work with the Sega Modem 🤧😋 Kidding aside, it's really cool to see all of this 😊
I remember newgrounds used to have flash games like this. I loved windows 95, loved the look of it, loved everything about the 90s and early 2000s. So when we got to xp, i always found myself missing "the good old days" and when i found those simulations on newgrounds i loved it. Just might buy the physical copy for a good laugh and trip down memory lane.
3:01 I love how he so excitedly says “Clippy comes up!”😂
Brain 48 song sounds a bit like the opening track of the first level from Hover! for Windows 95 (which was included on some Win95 CDs)
the 3d maze even has the rat, I am impressed
Unfortunately for me my ex has the Sega Genesis. It was hers to begin with so I can't complain. That said this was a lot of fun to watch. Another great video Michael.
Freaky, I like it! 🙃
Nice :)
24:05
*LAUGHTER OVERLOAD*
I laughed at that part too
I've always wanted to see someone make an SNES OS of sorts. The SNES could display more colors, and it had mouse functionality. I'll bet someone might be able to recreate an Amiga-esque retro multimedia system. Just look at Mario paint. I had it as kid and I had no idea that it could do much more than what I was doing with it at the time. I feel like much of the framework is already in place to make this happen.
The Mega Drive has also got mouse capability :-)
@@videogamemusicrenditionsby7625 yes but i believe the SNES was more polished
SNES was crap very slow and not many good games
The snes was garbage too slow 🦥
The Genesis has more raw CPU power, but has lower graphic capabilities. It also coudn't display as many colors. Hence, I think the SNES would make for the better retro multimedia system.
Nice game! :)
One minor issue I notice with the Internet Explorer, he has the URL all in caps whereas they are always lowercase in the real internet! Well, except for special coded parts of URLs to uniquely identify a page among millions, like this very video's URL.
If he put in more office references than just "assistant to the regional manager", I wonder if there's another Easter egg in the DVD screensaver when the logo hits a corner.
I suspect that “00” in the center is a counter for corner-hits ;-)
This is sooooo cool and funny!
But: What happens if the DVD logo visualiser thingie hits the corner? Maybe some sort of Easter egg?
And of course it was A great Video👍
I think that's what the counter is for.
The dancing baby has been haunting me for decades at this point.
Funny thing, you uploaded this on Sonic's 31st Birthday
The Clippy thing is like the creators of the Microshaft Winblows 98 parody!
Haha geocities wow! So many memories from my first time of using the Internet 6th grade year in 1998. This is a major mind freak.
