Chex Quest (1996 - DOS)

Playing through the first 3 levels of ChexQuest (and a little bit of the 4th) I originally got this game from the Chex cereal box when it was a free game promotion for buying the cereal and is one of my favorite doom engine games of all time. From Wikipedia : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chex_Quest Chex Quest is a non-violent first-person shooter video game created in 1996 by Digital Café, originally ...

Star Wars Trilogy Arcade (1998 - Arcade)

Decided to play some Star Wars Trilogy Arcade for May 4th! I'm not the best, this was just for fun. The light saber fights were hard cause the up and down directions are inverted compared to the rest of the game but not left and right, my brain can't handle that. May the 4th be with you! 0:31 - Yavin 5:22 - Hoth 10:58 - Duel With Boba Fett 12:16 - Endor Forest 16:59 - Duel With Darth Vader 18:3...

Amigo, o seu link para o Unofficial GPU driver, não está funcionando. Onde você encontrou ele? Também tenho uma GeForce 6200 e não estou conseguindo fazer ele ser reconhecido pelo sistema Windows Millennium. Pode me ajudar?
Looks like that link is dead, not sure if I still have the files somewhere, but if I do, I'll try and upload them. For now you might have some luck with these if you want to give them a try: From NVidia / ForceWare V81.98 - Win9x / WinME: www.nvidia.com/content/DriverDownloads/confirmation.php?url=/Windows/81.98/81.98_forceware_win9x_english.exe&lang=us&type=GeForce From Phil's: www.philscomputerlab.com/uploads/3/7/2/3/37231621/nvidia_9x_66.94.zip - www.philscomputerlab.com/nvidia-9x-graphics-drivers.html
@@DS08 Muito obrigado! Vou já baixar.
I wanted a Pentium II so bad when I was a kid, of course it was way too expensive for me so I saved all my money to buy a K6-2 400 :D
I kind want this for some old point and click games. I already own them on steam but im gonna get mad nostalgia with this.
The autogenerated transcript is pretty comical :)
Incredibly nostalgic, indeed... Thanks for posting!
I can't believe you actually chose to use an FX 5200.
In my experience of building two of these now, the shell holes that the screws go into are completely unthreaded and require a lot of force to screw into leading to stripped screws. On my latest build, I heated my screwdriver up on the stove for about 20 seconds on high and then let the driver sit in the screw for another 20 seconds or so which slightly softened up the the shells holes. This made screwing so much easier and less stressful.
Woah! I didn't experience that with my build. I'm guessing something has changed with manufacturing since the making of this video cause the screws went in with only a little bit of force.
I just got mine replaced by a pro with a 6.3v 22uf rubycon capacitor. It still doesnt work. Any tips? Thanks.
Funny playing now selling pre assembled fbgbc 🎉
Amaba ese programa, lo jagaba cuando yo era niño en mi primer computadora era hermoso, 😢❤ ya no hay programas así ahora o si??
I had been looking for this game for years!!!! Can’t believe I actually found it! Used to play it on my school computer back in the day.
Bravo!
1:04 Nice touch :)))
Lol, had to show how small it was 😅
Hey, man! I really want to thank you for your build guide. I watched all the others (big and small) and they glossed over some critical details. Your’s was the most helpful by far. I ended up not using the middle Philips screw on the board because it didn’t appear to fully seat. Seems to be fine. The other part that completely befuddled me was the battery. I kept thinking that the connector had to slide into the female piece and no videos addressed it. They were just, like, “and put in the battery!” So, thanks! My build is working thanks to this vid. Appreciate your efforts.
Hello! I'm glad my video was helpful, I also considered not using that middle screw but figured if I could go slow enough and get it down then I'd just leave it in. I totally agree with the battery part, I probably should have talked about it more in the video to explain that it connects by pressing it down, this was also the first time I've come across that. Thank you for the kind words!
Oh my god that desktop background hit me hard, hadn't seen that in 20+ years, probably
Thanks for the upscale!
I love this game, I played like 20 years ago and still like it.
Daria lo que fuera por volver a mi niñez a jugar fine artist
That was my first PC when I was 5 years old. Was fascinated by Pentium II CPU slot form factor too. Always had a special place in my heart.
I never would have noticed the difference in screw sizes - thank you for pointing that out, and thanks for the great build guide!
Nics build. I am collecting parts to make something similar. Not that I need to, as I already have dedicated setups for Win98 and WinXP. But I want to try this just to see what compatability issues there are. I will be trying to use a PCIe Radeon X850 XT PE and a 3Ghz Quad Core Xeon. I have a nice 15" 1024x768 monitor to go with it. Hopefully this will allow XP era games to run well due to the low resolution.
i actually used the sound blaster z and the audigy sound cards no problems in my windows 98 se p4 and p3 builds i have both original cd drivers , also had dos drivers , working on computers since windows 98 came out ,, love building old retro computers great you tube video,, the p4 has the dual slot fx 5950 nvidia video card and the p3 has the fx 5500,, and built other computers
How did you assign the trackpad as the mouse, and is there a way to reassign buttons within PCem?
I added PCem as a non-steam game in steam, then used the built in steamdeck controller settings to customize the buttons to commonly used keys as well as the trackpad as mouse.
From F.P how long was your shipping time?
iirc, it was about 2 and a half weeks / ~16 days
Take me back
Good build and update guide. I definitely started at my parts for about 2 mins looking for the start and select button until I realized the membrane is the button. Very spooky build. 🎃
How much does it cost is the question lol $70 is not bad!!
Heya! Yeah it was $83.60 for all the parts. (Kit, Shell, Buttons, Pads)
I would really like to find a way to play this at home i never had any luck
how do you turn it back on???
Start menu -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Welcome To Windows
Windows entertainment/edutainment software in the 90s that draws to the screen with BitBlts is an aesthetic.
Great vid and sterling effort but it proves that major sacrifices had to be made to the xp hardware build to account for win 98. Ended up being a great win 98 machine but fairly poor xp gaming pc due to ram and fx5200 compromise. And even an fx5500 is underpowered for xp. Ideally you have 2 separate retro builds for win 98 and xp but appreciate not everyone has the space, budget or desire. You persevered well to fix the issues!
I am filled with genuine joy and surprise. Thank you for uploading the video. It was in 2003 when I was tinkering with this software on a PC in the classroom of the kindergarten I used to attend. Even though I was a child who didn't know the alphabet, I remember enjoying things like sound effects and movies! However, in that very rural kindergarten in Japan, I wonder who prepared this software...
Windows NT 4.0 is better for this setup
I'm guessing the Lightwave Indi 5000 is an SGI Indy in a rackmount case?
Did I just see an Aquarius with a 3D-printed case and keycaps?
Windows 98 will only allow 1gb of ram in the machine for the installation, once installed then there is a "Ram Limitation Patch" available online so you can run 2gb of ram, newer motherboards may allow more; but, my older ASUS motherboard would only allow 2gb of ram in total with the patch installed. Here's the thing though, while Windows 98 will see 2gb of ram, as an example, it will only "cache" 256mb; therefore, it is recommended you use only 256mb of ram in the computer, otherwise it will slow the computer down; but, I went with 2GB anyway. I have two Windows 98 PC's, one is a K6-2/500mhz running 256mb of ram, Nvidia Geforce 2 MX400 paired with a 3dfx Voodoo 1, and a SoundBlaster Live. There is a SoundBlaster Live driver on Phil's Computer website, it is meant for an Audigy ZS card; but, works with a large number of SoundBlaster Live models, including the one shown here, that is the driver I use in my K6-2 machine. My second Windows 98 PC is a Pentium 4 build, I used an Nvidia Geforce FX5700 video card with 256mb onboard, DirectX 9.0a, Nvidia driver version 56.64, nGlide version 1.05, and a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Sound card. Games like Unreal Tournament look, and sound amazing, so does Quake III.........and over 60 more Windows 98 era games. I knew the Geforce 6200 caused issues in Windows 98 because it requires too new of a driver, that is why I never used it. I have a third computer rocking Windows XP, it is a high end machine, I won't bother with the specs. The reason for three machines is simple, the 90's era PC games, and games from the 2000's with their respective video cards demands it!
I would pair the TNT2 with a 3dfx Voodoo 1, or a Voodoo 2. I would have installed Windows 98se as it has all the updates with drivers to cover more peripherals than Windows 95. Also, SoundBlaster Live was the gold standard of the time, it includes EAX. I have a Windows 98se Micro ATX desktop with a K6-2/500mhz processor, 256mb of PC100 memory, SoundBlaster Live, Nvidia Geforce 2 MX400 (32mb) paired with a 3dfx Voodoo 1(4mb), and 42 90's era games, all are Windows based, no DOS. All in all this was a beautiful build, the case looks gorgeous, well done, you should be very proud!
I got one Yihua 936II, great soldering station, no problems at all.
Any updates? I'm thinking of buying it myself
Nice. I also built a Pentium II system a couple years ago… sourced all the parts and a really awesome old-style tower case. My favorite thing to do with it is play the original Quake. I have Windows 98 on it however.
Why did you use a boot disk when windows 98 cd is bootable. Good setup and looks modern even though running a retro software. Good Job
Thanks! I used a boot disk because it wasn't letting me boot from the CD 😂
@@DS08 strange the version i have booted from CD no both, could be your cmos setup on the computer, or something else. but all installed now and as long as you happy with it.👍
is this the first 3d game ?
nope, there were 3D games before this one
I was so excited to buy and play this game, but shortly after I started playing it, I could never find a Save Game function. I can't play a game if I can't save it. 😞
Yeah, not being able to save feels bad 😔
I loved this game as a kid. I just wish i could get it to work on a modern OS.
Good to see the old girl still gets some love once in a while.
You gave me anxiety as I HATED ribbon cables and IDE shit so much
Nice build. I have an Asus p3bf slot 1 board , I want to do a win95 gaming pc
