Some thoughts I've had on my favourite trio, and a few too many thoughts on my favourite character 😅. This is a completely unscripted discussion video with some light speculation. I'll be doing more videos likes this in the coming days, so hopefully you enjoyed it.
Yes! We need more Wayfinder Trio development. Look at the Sea Salt Trio, they have everything resolved by the end of Kingdom Hearts 3. But the Wayfinder Trio need to come to terms with their pasts... Ventus with his union past and his association with darkness, Aqua’s fear of darkness and her PTSD, and Terra’s guilt. They have a lot to resolve and I hope we can see more of them.
@@vmkblaster1 It may still happen at some point. A lot of people anticipate at least one game before KH4, and I think a game showing us what every trio is up to would please everyone
I think this idea sounds awesome. If they were to get another game devoted to them, I think this would be interesting to explore. Aqua's PTSD can be explored through training Kairi, Ventus coming to terms with his past would be interesting build up to KH4 if "Dakrness" comes to play a larger role in the current era. Terra's guilt and how he was trapped in darkness can also be explored too.
I always felt like the biggest thing Agua about aqua that pushed her friends away in BBS was her lack of faith in her friends. She was the protective mama mom of the group, but that came with flaws. Eraqus and Aqua didn't completely trust Terra, so she was sent to check up on him. Terra, already have a sort of inferiority complex, was upset from this seeing that she doesn't completely trust in her abilities. Ven tries hard to prove to Aqua and Terra that he is just as good of a Keyblade wielder as them. Aqua keeps telling to go to his room and to go home and Ventus understandably took that as her not acknowledging his hard work. Terra, however does acknowledge his ability. When the light orbs went haywire during the exam, Aqua tells Ventus to go to his room while Terra, on the other hand, says that he'll be find since he trained just as hard as they did. Aqua's protective nature comes from a place of love, but it is not really helpful for characters who are going through arcs of trying to prove themselves. I like how this arc for her was resolved in KH3 with Aqua realizing she has to believe in Terra when he walks up to Xehanort at the end.
I'd say what Aqua lost was her drive. At the end of BBS, she has a strong drive to continue fighting and escape the realm of darkness. Then after a decade of fighting, she was on the verge of giving up until Mickey found her and told her about Sora and Riku, which gave her a new drive to survive until the worlds were safe again. But when she reached the dark shore and had a talk with Ansem, other Ansem came, and threw her into the dark liquid in the shore, which probably forced many repressed memories of the litteral hell she went through to resurface and break her will to go on and fight the darkness, which then made Aqua succumb to it.
Correction to “Ventus lost his soul”, he actually lost his heart...the “soul” is kinda like the body’s energy source. When the soul is gone the body dies, (with/without the heart).
I call the wayfinder trio "The Tragic Trio" , because imo Terra, Aqua and Ven go through so much tragedy and the way BBS ends...it's a straight up tragedy. Sora ,Riku and Kairi were the Hopeful trio, they brought about hope and the drive to fight. Roxas ,Axel and Xion are the Lost or Forgotten trio. Roxas and Xion(especially Xion) were forgotten by nearly everyone and after losing his friends Axel became lost. But Terra, Aqua and Ven each lost important things to them before losing eachother. Their story is just...man it's sad
I disagree I think aqua is great but I think she could have done more. She was a keyblade master I spent more time at darkness than the person she saved that ended up being possessed by the main antagonist. She was traveling around the darkness for years if we're going by the time that passes within the realm of light whereas Tara from what we are understanding had nowhere near that I'm out of time and darkness and was able to amp his powers to not only control the heartless that she had to fight but control nobody's and the universe and was able to travel within the realm of light and darkness of his own volition was it on somebody else's influence and possession that's irrelevant the fact that his body was able to do that speaks volumes. I can make that claim because literally she was possessed by darkness and she wasn't doing none of that mess. that you can make the argument that she did not give into the darkness but darkness is part of everything unless you're a princess of light so she could have done something with it to get out and if you don't believe me look at Mickey mouse how he knew about sora's keyblades counterpart. Being there is Riku who literally forged his own keyblade out of his own like mixed out of his own darkness. Which is why it is reminiscent of sold eater. The last time I checked riku did not have a master. Aqua couldn't even beat by herself because, Terra and later on we find out her master, was helping her beat in the battle against terra-nort. Riku had to fight not only his darkness in the form of copy Riku, maleficent, but also had to fight a form of the main protagonist who in and of itself was no joke and aqua could not beat. now if you would have said xion or roxas was better and I would have given you that
@@nopeace3689 She carried the whole birth by sleep and you think she didn't do enough?? I agree in kh3 she didn't do enough and imo she shouldn't have gotten the final fight with xehanort alongside ven and terra.
I know Sora is the main character but this video puts a good argument for Ventus. If anything, the main focus was always on the Wayfinder trio, even by the fandom itself.
I love the original game, but Birth By Sleep has become my favorite. Not only because of the single character battles, but the story and characters are SO super strong. It has the best story out of any of the games (until ReMind)
Guys Roxas is not Sora's nobody it's Ventus the strongest heart in sora the pure light was Ventus hence why Roxas looks like Ventus remember sora turned into a shadow cause well is weak. But like also are Namine and Roxas Sora's, Ventus and Kairi children?
I believe aqua is the strongest KH character she went through so much. And then you have to think about it she spent a decade in dark world before fallIng to the darkness. I love her so much!
Great video. It is interesting that all three of them were possessed by darkness when they're basically the veterans in this compared to the other trios. I guess they had to be sidelined in order to explain why they weren't around, but its just funny all of them ended up dark at some point. Riku fell because he didn't have any guidance and was misled by Malificent, but those three had a lot more knowledge and had been trained by masters. Fair enough one master was aligned with darkness, but still. I think it's something that should definitely be reflected on during their time in the realm of darkness. And I'm also intrigued to see if it has any significance in the future, especially with Darkness' connection with Ven
I mean Aqua's case was extreme. Many would have fallen so long ago had they endured a portion of what she did. Terra's was innate, Ventus's related to Darkness
@@harrycrime8836 I don't think aqua's was really that extreme if you really think about it she was a master if you're a real master you have to put your feelings aside and deal with the problem. also the fact that Master Eraqus and aqua had the ability to stop xehanort with Yen sid. and here's another thing that makes it even worse when you have entities like the genie from Aladdin the fairy godmother the three fairies and Merlin's magic at their side to even strengthen their forces and chose not to do anything that sealed Terra's fate. Think about it like this sure Tara had a master but that same master was looked as a wise council for his current master his current Master knowing that his friend had turned to the dark side allowed this dude to live to trick one of his pupils which would be the equivalent of if the Jedi knew that palpatine was the sith Master during the clone wars let him trick Anakin of their own volition. And if you think they will ever do that I don't know what you smoking they chose to do nothing speaks volumes.
What makes Aqua's fall so tragic is that it didn't have to happen. She held out for TEN YEARS and in that time, Mickey entered and left the realm of darkness multiple times and yet made no effort to save her. He even had Riku with him most of the times he went there. He went to Castle Oblivion for fack sake! And with Fragmentary Passage we find out that his speech about sealing the door was to Aqua and not Sora. He knew he was leaving her at the mercy of the realm of darkness and made no effort to help her. Her fall is ultimately due to loneliness and abandonment. Xehanort had betrayed them, Eraqus was disappointed in her inability to stop Terra, Terra became a puppet, Ventus was sleep with (to her knowledge) no way to wake him, and the last person who could possibly rescue her sealed her behind the door. She held on to hope despite that, but even the strongest will cracks when there is no hope in sight for so long. (Yes, Aqua is my favorite character. How did you know?) Also, f*ck King Mickey!
I'm glad I'm not the only one having the wayfinder trio as my favorite. That being said, my speculations go that it is not darkness that brings back Ventus's memories, but Lauriam. As Lauriam, to my knowledge, has now become a Somebody, he most likely has some memories remaining, and I do not think he is just going to leave Ventus be, if they should cross paths. Though, I will not deny that Darkness, may also play a part. In fact, a combination of these two factors is probably the most likely.
I never thought much about all of them falling to darkness, I kinda just took it for what it was, but yeah that does make them quite different! I like how you pointed out how the way they went dark was related to their personal struggles too, and the Aqua and Ava comparison. And I don't think anyone could tell Aqua is your favorite at all! 😉
I would like to add that Aqua wasn't always supposed to be a hero. According to Nomura, she was originally supposed to join Xehanort willingly but test audiences didn't like that scenario.
Holy shit this game grew up with the fans.. Paupo trio- Childish phase: Sora jealous of riku. Trying to beat him in a race. Fighting over kairi. Riku being jealous over sora (new friends goofy and donald) Seasalt trio- teenage phase: Roxas fighting for what he wants and desires despite the outcome of what will happen. Going in a emo phase with it. “No one will miss me.” (lol jk)Axel hiding the truth from his friends despite how its making them feel and doing it only to keep them safe but in a selfish manor. Xion knows they cant enjoy what they want forever then does the mature act. Wayfinder trio- adult phase: Ventus maybe childish to the down right core but he makes a grown up move by asking his friends to do the wisest decision and put him down. And he shattered his own heart to save his friends. Terra knows he has a hidden rage and learns rather than ignoring it accept that he isnt perfect and he will soon learn to move past his flaws. Aqua was always mature but she always questioned in the end like any other mature adult does today “Are we making the right decisions in life?” Kingdom hearts grew up with its fans
me too!!! I honestly think the next Kingdom Hearts games will focus on other characters rather than Sora for a while, so I'm having huge hopes for a kind of "Birth by Sleep 2" kind of thing
I love this analysis. We can look at each trio as siblings with the BBS trio being the eldest. They had the worst sins of all which got passed on to future generations. They were the benchmark of what could happen. I wish they used them as plot devices during certain points in KH and KH2 instead of being forgotten about like Mickey did. I feel like their story is the saddest. Pupils who tried to do right, but failed at every attempt even using their teachers lessons.
3:37 ... What is the moment where everything about Terra makes sense? If you don't say when he inquires Riku and thinks he is worthy because he wants strength to protect what matters or when he oppose Eraqus for Ventus sake, then you don't get Terra like NextGenNovelist here, Terra's desire for strength comes from the same place as Riku, it's his desire to protect Ventus, to protect Aqua, to protect that what matters the most to him, his family, which included Eraqus, which is why you see him initially trying to not attack Eraqus and when the fight is done he isn't happy or proud, he is down, especially when that fight leads to Xehanort killing him... It's why he loses control of his rage so easily on the Keyblade Graveyard he is in front of the killer of his Master and the one that damage and hurt his friend and he *CAN'T* keep it out.
Who was he protecting when he fought against Aqua? She's his friend and he was going to use the darkness against her because a part of him really wanted to win and become a master. You can tell he's prideful, that's why he gets upset about Aqua being sent to find him, and Xehanort uses his pride against him to manipulates him and because of that he can possess him. You're right, he does want to protect others, and in the case of Eraqus, he was right to protect Ventus. So Eraqus ain't perfect either, his obsession with ending darkness was an issue too. But still, in various other instances, Terra's desire for strength, even if to help others, is what led to him being the perfect target for Xehanort. LIke Riku, that pride he has is a double-edged sword. It's not as simple as he just wants to help everyone, he also wants to be recognised as being the best fit to help everyone. It doesn't make him a bad person, just simply headstrong. Unfortunately in the world of KH, being headstrong can lead to you easily being taken over by darkness. It's part of the tragedy of him just trying to do the right thing like NextGen said about Aqua
@@heyalexa8570 He has pride, but he isn't prideful, if he was prideful, he would have totally not be asking about where the darkness came from AKA why did he call it on instict, but more of complaining about why did he not made it just for a small mistake. He would had just fallen for Xehanort will of him being his apprentiace like he asked of him seeing as he was just willing to give him what he wanted to show that his pride was right, on Radiant Garden instead of still being doubtfull regarding what he told him and just that at the end be a bit of a push to get him to respect him more. Having pride is a good thing, but being prideful would blind you to your mistakes more heavily because of that pride, Terra was bother by calling upon what he was taught to be evil, not out of pride, but if you see his reaction through the battle with Aqua out of the horror he felt on that moment of what he was doing, he was not only calling the darkness but also about to use it on Aqua. It's because of that pride he has as apprentiace of Eraqus that he resist for a while Xehanort and doesn't easily fall, because if he was prideful, the glorious moment where Xehanort already had one of the piece on his side and just needed to plan for the other, instead of just having to plan to move the piece in a way to get what he wants(Even through he fail on BbS). That's the different, if you have pride on something you would be bother when you go against it and you would have a harder time opening your mind. But if you are prideful you would easily fall to the side that tells you are right.
I agree with both of you. I never thought of it at the time of making this video, but I don't disagree he wanted to protect his friends. But Alexa pretty much said everything I would say about him
@@heyalexa8570 *"Who was he protecting when he fought against Aqua? She's his friend and he was going to use the darkness against her because a part of him really wanted to win and become a master."* Do you mean in the Mark of Mastery? Did you miss the fact that Xehanort sabotaged him, as was confirmed in his reports? Terra had a flare of darkness, confusedly looked at his hand and stamped it down. He then afterward wondered to himself where the flare even came from. That doesn't sound at all like going to use the darkness to win a fight... I guess it's a matter of perspective, but instead of blaming Eraqus or Aqua of his failure, he instantly blamed himself for failing ("Tell me, what is it that I've failed to learn?"). That comes of to me more as inferiority than pride. He also seemed very happy about getting a second chance to prove himself, so when it turned out Eraqus didn't trust him after all it obviously hurt him. It didn't come off to me as being prideful, just him being hurt from the lack of trust. *"But still, in various other instances, Terra's desire for strength, even if to help others, is what led to him being the perfect target for Xehanort. "* For all Eraqus and Xehanort say this, it doesn't really reflect on his attitude. He avoids tapping to darkness (like in Olympus) and when he does e.g. against Braig, he is ashamed rather than prideful for having done that. The thing that makes him perfect pickings to Xehanort is being well-meaning and emotional but naive (his darkness seems to be tied to his emotional state so manipulating his trust, killing his father figure, destroying his home and threatening his friends is a sure-fire way to make it well), as well as Eraqus being so gung-ho about Darkness. Imagine how different the things would've been if he actually stopped to explain what was going on when Terra tried to shield Ven from him.
Ya know, when I look back at what Sora did for the other characters it's kinda boring that he has to be the one to help clean up everyone's heavy emotional baggages, make peace with their respective pasts and destroy their personal demons instead of letting them do those things on their own. It's like he's the whole franchises very own heart therapist, literally.
To be fair I'm pretty sure some characters couldn't really do much about their fates on their own (Roxas, Xion, Naminé) since they essentially couldn't leave the people they joined back with. Ven was in a similar situation since he couldn't really undo being in a coma. Though, Aqua definitely should have been able to fight back on her own, Terra too.
Aqua should've become a dark revenant akin to characters in fiction like Darth Vader and Noob Saibot. The reckoning would've been well worth it to pay back her unrecognized heroism.
I really like the Wayfinder trio. If I made a list of my favorite characters in KH the Wayfinder trio is the trio that would have all their characters on the list before any other trio. The order is Ventus, Terra, and Aqua. Why is Aqua last? Well I really like the other two better and relate to them better. In fact on my latest play of BBS I figured out why she is at the bottom of her trio. It's because she is the older sister who likes to pretend that she is the Mom. As a younger sibling I can say that there is very little worst then a sibling that thinks they are Mom. When that sibling is only four years older then you, or worst younger then you then it's really easy to get annoyed with them. Even when they are like Aqua and not really meaning to Mother, or like Invi and have been ordered by your real parental figure to Mother. So it really isn't Aqua's or Invi's fault that they are lower on my list then their other groups, I just had a sister that thought she was Mom, or worst smarter then Mom and the parallels make me take the others on their groups side. Sorry I had been wondering why l like Ventus and Terra better then Aqua for years when no one else seemed to agree with me, so finding out the reason this week was really uplifting and I had to share with someone. And as I said before even with this problem that I am projecting onto Aqua I really like her character, and honestly with all the Wayfinder trio have been through I doubt that her Mothering will bother them and thus me anymore. Your point about all three of them being possessed by darkness is not actually something that I had thought about in those terms before. Though now that you have said it I have to say that I agree. I would also add that there is a lot we don't know about these characters. Things that where hinted about in BBS but never explained or talked about again. Terra and Aqua more then Ventus but somehow we are getting Ventus back story first. I mean I don't mind I love Ventus he is one of my favorite characters in a story that makes really good characters. Anyway I will go through all three of them talking about their hanging threads and why it is very unlikely they are going to be dropped. They might get lost for a time but not dropped. Aqua is the only character besides Riku and Xehanort who is about to sense Darkness. Granted it was the darkness of Cinderella's step family who where not hiding it very well, but it does need to be talked about. After all with only three of the main characters show to have this ability(plus Ienzo though I am not sure if he still has it) even with the fact it seems fairly unreliable it is an unexplained power that not very mean people have. However her true hanging thread is "what is her dream?". In BBS Terra asks Aqua if she still has the same dream. However in BBS the only dream ever talked about is the one about becoming Keyblade Masters. Something that Aqua has already done and so can't "still" be her dream. In fact if I had to guess I would say that Terra and Aqua likely have a dream that becoming a Master is a step in reaching it. If I had to guess what that dream is, it most likely has something to do with why they are under the care of Eraqus. It could even be about the fact that out of all the characters we have seen Heart Stations for Terra and Aqua are the only two that don't have landscapes. In other words I think that Aqua's dream has something to do with returning and/or saving "Home" which is most likely Scala. Which is also why I really want to see Scala through Aqua's and Terra's eyes not Mickey's. Terra most likely also has ties to Scala. However the unexplained thing about him is his ability to see the future, and maybe the past. Of our characters only MoM has the ability to do this that we know of. So Terra of all people having that power is very interesting. One could argue that Namine also has the power to look into the past but Namine has a lot of unexplained things about her powers and I am not focusing on her. So Terra has a dream most likely tied to Aqua's dream which most likely has to do with Scala, as well as an ability that has only been seen used by MoM. If I had to guess where Terra is going in the future I would guess he and Aqua are going to stick to each other like glue and most likely go to Scala at some point, or at the very lest find "Home" and get a landscape for their Station of Awakening. Ventus is a Dandelion and so is tied to those story threads and I honestly don't know where those threads are going. Most likely in April I will get a better idea. Still the fact that he is a Dandelion thus connected to other Dandelions and the foretellers, and somehow still connected to the Darkness Race means that Ventus is going to be very important to the next saga. So much so that I think if Terra and Aqua get trapped in the Realm of Darkness for a time which will lead them to either Scala or Ava somehow, Ventus will most likely be in the Realm of Light trying to help the wielders there. After all it takes all three of the Wayfinder trio to make a portal between the two realms. And with Mickey going off to the unknown and Riku in another Reality there will be no other wielders able to go into the Realm of Darkness to find Terra and Aqua if they get trapped. So really there are two ways that we can take Ventus at this point in time. He could be so tied to what is about to happen in the Realm of Light that he is going to be the main person helping Kairi keeping the Realm of Light safe. Or he could be so tied that like Terra and Aqua he becomes trapped in the Realm of Darkness as well so that he doesn't spoil plot twists in the first part of the next saga, though in that case we need a reason for the three of them to be trapped, which could be as easy as them getting separated against their will. Either way Ventus is going to be a main player in this next saga he is way to connected for him not to be.
I hope we get to see the more grownup versions of the other Destiny Islands trip. Bring in the original voice actors too, I want to hear Tidus' stupid laugh in KH.
Take a shot whenever he says "Possessed by darkness". Jokes aside: I feel you though, Aqua is bae. And I really wish to see more of her, be it a training montage with Kairi or a whole game that actually focuses on the latter. I consider both of them (sadly) wasted characters, or at least wasted potential especially in KH3. Both nerved to let Sora & Riku shine, in the end pulling a Naruto & Sasuke, which infuriates me to a certain degree.
My guess is that we are going to be getting a key blade master equivalent of a grey Jedi in the next phase. Someone will either reject both light or darkness or embrace them both.
I've always loved grey Jedi, so I'd like that. Maybe that's part of why I like Riku a lot, he's sort of a grey Jedi already, someone who walks between light and darkness, benefitting from both. I think they'll all have to come to a sort of balanced understanding by the end of all this
@@devonm042690 not really. He serves the light. The Grey Jedi, while obviously not evil, walk neither side. They wisest in the middle served neither light nor dark while drawing from both
Dude you mentioned that it would have been better that riku saved aqua. I agree completely, like you said poetic, but also it would have shown how strong riku is. There is too much plot armor surrounding Sora, there was literally no way riku couldn’t handle himself in the dark real, and against Aqua.
Dude... thank you for giving this character work its due recognition. I've been so tired of people ragging on this trio like they were just a shallow copy of the main trio. I love this trio to death.
wow, that's the exact opposite of my perspective. I saw the seasalt trio as the most unique. well, morally. everyone else are boring and straight-laced now. the seasalt trio, however, fight solely for their own wants. light and darkness don't matter to them. they aren't heroes, they aren't villains, they aren't really antiheroes either. they don't care about becoming keyblade masters. they do what they want and I LOVE that. they're free from those tight, overly simplistic boxes of good and evil that everyone else believe in and reinforce.
I can see what you mean. In terms of personalities, the Days trio are the most different to the others, especially Axel/Lea. And the dynamic between them is great too. I just love the way the BBS trio all end up messed up, and their failures (and successes) led to everything we had to deal with in Kingdom Hearts. And all of them have fallen to darkness at some point, which for them as keyblade wielders aligned with light, that's like the worst failure they could have in their eyes. It's such a great tragedy.
That is pretty true! They are driven by their want. With the Seasalt Trio, they are more about heart and what it means to have one, emotion, the bond between friends, passion and drive. The Wayfinder Trio are more about the righteous path, what it means to be a keyblade wielder, the struggle with darkness. It's interesting how they always have a way to find each other, something that guides them, but all end up lost or losing to darkness at somepoint.
I feel like the Wayfinder Trio is most likely the archetypes for RPG classes that you see in a lot of RPGs, Dragon age, Dragons dogma, Fable, Greedfall and Kingdoms of Amalur for example. These RPGs have three starting classes, Warrior, Rogue and Mage. Terra is the warrior because of his strength and powerful attacks. Ventus is the rogue due to him being quick and having very fast attacks. Aqua is the mage because she has a wide variety of spells and she mostly uses magic in combat.
As someone who has played and enjoyed all those games (Dragon Age, Dragon's Dogma and Kingdoms of Amalur are amongst my favourite games ever) I really appreciate this comment. I've never noticed this before, but it's a great observation
In a way the people in this trio were their own worst enemies more than the other trios. During Birth by Sleep things go wrong between them because of their character flaws, and it makes Xehanort’s victory, or at least Pyrrhic victory, more certain without him having to directly do anything. Terra’s desire to prove himself, Ven’s naivety and inability to read Terra’s mood, and Aqua’s self-assurance. This made them divided when they didn’t have the Land of Departure and Eraqus to temper the worse excesses, and they spend over a decade out of commission because the couldn’t make up. Their fates at the end of the game and their subsequent journeys reflect this, as Terra gave up his identity in order to set things right, Ven faced the truth and was willing to let go, and Aqua’s ordeals in the Realm of Darkness tested her to the core.
My favorite trio! I hope Terra retakes his Mark of Mastery exam and Venyus takes it in the next game with Kairi and Lea. Also, since the books place Vanitas in a sympathetic light, I hope he returns. I love the idea of an antihero or someone who only pays attention to Sora and Ventus...maybe even Roxas.
Sora was possessed by darkness in Kingdom hearts 1 the moment he became a heartless it's just that his connection to the people around him was so strong that it was able to connect with kairi's light and bring him back. Hence the phrase my friends are my power.
Though I know kingdom hearts series since child, BBS was my first actual play through so they got the special spot in my heart. Even after I started play other series, the wayfinder trio remain the best and tragic to me honestly.
Birth by Sleep was the first game to get me introduced to Kingdom Hearts. Ventus aqua and Terra is one my childhood allies growing up to love their bond though out there adventures. ventus is my favorite character then I met roxas later. This video really helps its got really good information. I'm glad this got recommend to me. *May your Heart be your guiding key*
I would just like to say something some people seem to skip over. The being darkness hid inside of ventus which means its probably gonna do it again when ventus gets sent to the future meaning we already know who darkness is as a person its vanitas due to xehanort ripping the darkness out of ventus, he also went back to being darkness when ventus beat him at the end of birth by sleep
A good observation and analysis. I am curious myself about these 3, since they are my favourite trio of the series, Ven in particular. I get the feeling we aren't done with them yet.
I mean riku was posseses by ansem and sora turned into a heartless. The only reason Kairi didn't fall to darkness is because she's a princess of heart and really can't
It really shouldn't have been Sora that set her free. I believe they should've pushed the Riku relationship further as he's the one who actually has been controlled by and broken free from darkness.
All of Kingdom Hearts games chronologically from Union Cross to 3 is known as the Prelude to Darkness. It's only act 1 out of unknown. I cannot wait to see what act 2 holds
i cried because i love wayfinder trio so much whoops we really need bigger segments of them in the next game(s)... like more fleshed out, seeing their thoughts and traumas and ways of coping with what they've been through
Great video! I also had these thoughts about the connection to darkness. I completely forgot the trio left on a journey to the realm of darkness! I also relate to the disconnect of the Foretellers being protectors of light, and Soras gang looking like villains in the future.
I believe that we definitely have not seen the last of Vanitus as he is a literal avatar of darkness who has confirmed in union cross that the MOM and him are “old friends”. That being said, we still don’t exactly know why Ventus is the destined vessel for darkness. I believe that Ventus, Darkness/Vanitas, and the MOM will be very much connected with the overall story and plot of this next phase of games. I guess we shall see what Ventus’s final decisions and actions were before he went forward in time and lost his memory. He may have wanted the darkness in the end. We shall see.
I'm so happy to see your perspective on my favorite trio! The Seasalt trio may have been the ones to introduce me to the series in their game but I have always loved the Wayfinder trio so much more. You have excellent taste sir, you've earned a subscriber.
I wonder if Chirithy also went with them into the realm of darkness? Because Chirithy can go in and be fine but Chirithy can also be turned dark. Was this Chirithy originally Ven's or are they the only one left?
I just realized, the main 3 trios can represent the 3 main elements of kingdom hearts, being the darkness, the light, and nothingness, along side heart, mind, and body on the individual level... they better not scrap this when they make new characters, as that's a solid as hell base, even when being lazy.
ive literally only seen plot summaries about the Kingdom Hearts franchise and the only SE game ived played is FF7R, but when i saw those summaries and saw these three, i immediately was taken in with the simplicity and perfectness of these three's story while i honestly was just kinda cringing when hearing about the other characters in the series, i see now why everyone went ballistic when Aqua was shown in that one trailer for KH3
Honestly the fact that Riku wasn't the one that saved Aqua really put me off KH3 for a bit. I know Sora is the main character and all, but why even have Riku be a playable character if in the end he accomplishes nothing? So much wasted potential in that game and honestly they've really just destroyed the story with it.
I think it should’ve been both of them saving Aqua and choosing Riku or Sora as playable and the other as a party member as she was influential on BOTH of them and I’d like Terranort and Riku having a battle or at LEAST being there for Terra coming back
It's the same with Aqua fighting Vanitas to save Ven. Not being able to do it and needing help, like jeez, show her to be (one of) the strongest masters. But KH kinda weakens their female chars so...
I guess the only justification I have for sora rescuing Aqua (other being the main protagonist of course) is because of Ventus. I mean that’s why sora says “I’ll save her” with so much passion even if he doesn’t remember her. Actually some of my favorite encounters felt forced as well. Like the final battle in kh3. Although sora vs master Xehanort was the aspect I was most looking forward to, it felt forced. It was really “I have to face to big bad because I’m the mc”. Maybe they could’ve showed how weak the other guardians were and sora steps in. Or my theory (which is probably not true) in which sora is secretly vindictive and he wants closure by killing Xehanort. If that was the case, they should’ve shown that and would’ve made the final battle more impactful when sora didn’t deliver the final blow that would render Xehanort speechless. I know I got off topic, but I just didn’t like the “I am the main character so I have to do this”. It doesn’t feel deserved imo.
@@robitussinbrohan718 two years later, you finally said why i really don't kh3's story pacing because of this, i just got very pissed of why sora must do everything on keyblade graveyard, kh3 was a completely wasted potential for me and they made sora a "Jesus" in this game.
Grew up with this trio rather than the original trio so I like them more.Too me their the main characters of the story especially with their connection with xehanort.
To be fair even Sora has mentioned it before after having become a heartless and brought back in Kingdom Hearts 1. “The heart may be weak and even give in, but deep down there is a light that never goes out” not to mention the times that Sora had conversations with Xemnas in KH3 where if darkness were to be used to revive roxas (and unknowingly Ventus) then that it would be good. Plus Riku being someone who’s both experienced a lesser degree of control taken from him like Terra and being resolute in his path to turn darkness back into light wich is what even gave him the opportunity to become a dream eater spirit in the first place, literally that same conversion where darkness isn’t something to uniquely treat as a plague but something that could even be a peaceful solution. It all depends on who wields it with the correct intentions without needing to do harm to others intentionally and closed off views/understanding. Xehanort being a prime example how he goes contrary what they each have experienced, especially being manipulated by MoM. He didn’t believe in anyone except himself to be able to make things right after his own friends died hence another meaning for him making organization 13, vessels for only himself to control of. even Sora would give second chances to former enemies coming to an understanding with them and their situations. Sorry for the overly long response.
This video was absolutely beautiful and the wayfinder trio is my favorite trio on the kh franchtise. Also you is a man if culture because aqua is my waifu with reason. 😭👍🏾💙💚🧡
Wayyfinder trio is the best trio, and yeah I never though that all of the were posses by darkness. I need another game with them, I wanted birth by sleep volume 2 to be real. And basically it could still happen, just set way later to what they first though during that teaser of bbs final mix.
I really like the ideas in this vid man! Truth be told I really hope we see some real maturity from Sora in the next game(s). I get that his optimism is a trait in and of itself but I think it's a bit too overbearing, almost like a certain anime ninja... Maybe it's just the "Sora is the MoM" theories giving me hope. A man can dream!
Okay but Aqua didn’t really fall to darkness, Ansem SoD came in and pew pewed some darkness into her. I see a lot of people kind of retroactively trying to rewrite some parts of KH3 to make it sound better than it was but we just have to face the music at this point, KH3 had some subpar writing and we just need to accept that. Aqua falling into darkness after enduring for a long ass time until she eventually couldn’t anymore and gave up is a great story, but it’s not the story we were told.
You know, I personally have some gripes with KH3 too, especially from a writing perspective. And I think Aqua could have been dealt a much better hand, as could a lot of the characters. But when I say Aqua fell to darkness, I mean what I say. I get what you mean, it's not like she had rage and turned, but that's why I said her fall was more due to giving up. Terra and Ventus were at least still resisting the darkness whilst being possessed by it, Aqua had no such internal conflict. 0.2 was foreshadowing she had a darker side that she was afraid of. All that attack from Ansem did was speed track what was already going go happen. That's why Anti-Aqua has a whole bunch of things she's pissed about, like being abandoned and alone. But on the whole, I agree it could have been handled better
Aqua’s monologue when she’s possessed isn’t Ansem’s work, she spills out all repressed feelings about being abandoned, about her not being able to defend herself, Ansem definitely pushed her to that destination, but I can't say it was just his thing, so she was traumatized
These three are unique, sure, but now that they're all done with Xehanort, the only reason to keep them around is to have them deal with their trauma. However this will be an issue because either Nomura ignores that entirely and they're all good now, or Disney doesn't want these things to be adressed (because Disney bad, as usual lol) I do heavily appreciate your optimism in regards to future games dealing with it, because by golly we NEED some positive outlooks at this point 😂 And another thing I must add is that BBS failed to depict the trio in the way you presented them here, the RUclipsr King K has also put his thoughts in his retrospective and at the time I was shocked at how he reached these conclusions in the first place, similar to your insights. Of course I ended up thinking about it and what the game DOES show, but the more I thought about it, the more I found that BBS specifically (and other titles too) simply don't go all the way in showing what they mean to show, if that makes sense. So I believe it'll be extremely difficult to portray them in a "well-done" manner in regards to overcoming a painful past and such, because of the aforementioned issues. Let's just hope that the writers DO end up having these character arcs be depicted properly in upcoming games without the big suits going "No 🤬"
I completely understand and agree to a point. The thing is, I write stories myself, so it's easy for me to understand the intent behind a lot of narrative choices, but I also understand corporate limitations like what you're referring to, and how those limitations effect the creative freedom allowed. BBS for me is just my favourite because it's a tragedy and arguably the darkest KH game so far, because it ends badly for pretty much all the protagonists. Now when you compare it to some other series/stories, it's not that dark at all, and the characters and plot threads lack the dimensions you can find in any decent novel, but KH is sort of its own thing and doesn't try to completely play by the rules, which makes it different to mostly everything else out there. Also, I think Nomura has changed as a writer since he started KH, but the thing is, the series has an established tone and style that the audience expects. I could be wrong, but I see the next phase as him taking a chance on switching that up and bringing KH up to speed with how he would write it if he started it today
@@NextGenNovelist It'd definitely be interesting to see my mans Nomura flex his writer muscles and go into more difficult subjects. Like when he did the beginning of KH2, which was a very good self-contained story about losing everything you know because of an outside force. These gripes I have with many characterizations as of KH3 (cuz of Disney, mostly) are extra bad when I remember a clip of an Interview he gave in which he talked about Cloud in FF7, the passion and genuine understanding he had for him was so interesting to see and compare to the main cast in this series, even if it does sting in hindsight. We really can only hope he gets more freedom, huh? 😔
Amazing video! Loved the wayfinder trio... I've always saw the pain they have had to endure and wonder how it'll end. And what are the two songs played in this video (during the video and the one at the end credits)?
They're also the group that *SPOILER* ATTEMPTED MURDER (i mean almost attempted murder) aqua almost killed mickey, terra almost killed eraqus, and ventus killed streletzia
At first I though: Ooh, I'll play the drinking game & take a shot whenever I hear the word "darkness" *After 2 mins*: Yeah...... I don't think my liver can handle this video.
Some thoughts I've had on my favourite trio, and a few too many thoughts on my favourite character 😅. This is a completely unscripted discussion video with some light speculation. I'll be doing more videos likes this in the coming days, so hopefully you enjoyed it.
@@the1384 Yeah I made a video about that and how it's made me love secret endings. I loved these guys before I even knew who they were lol
You could give them each their own game that focused on these things.
@@benduford3746 I was really hoping for a BBS 2.0 game in the Realm of Darkness. It would have been perfect!
@@vmkblaster1 It may still happen at some point. A lot of people anticipate at least one game before KH4, and I think a game showing us what every trio is up to would please everyone
@@NextGenNovelist gawd that would be amazing!
I like how this arc for her was resolved in KH3 with Aqua realizing she has to believe in Terra when he walks up to Xehanort at the end.
beautifully written!
Terra lost his body, ventus lost his soul, and aqua got sent to the kingdom hearts version of hell.
I would also add the Aqua lost her mind, but not to madness, to exhaustion. Body, mind, soul (heart)
@@simeonwashington9995 _Aqua exe. has stopped working_
“Aqua, aka the best character” I see you’re a man of culture.
Facts aqua is the best character and she is just a well written character. 🥰💙
yeah just remove the bits where she holds her heart and boom, a normal person in a kingdom hearts game
I’ll have to see after I beat kh2 on final mix I’m on the roxas boss fight if you’re courious

I believe aqua is the strongest KH character she went through so much. And then you have to think about it she spent a decade in dark world before fallIng to the darkness. I love her so much!

You brought the entire trio possessed by darkness and sent them to the RoD, that's raw potential for one good game.
@@harrycrime8836
I don't think aqua's was really that extreme if you really think about it she was a master if you're a real master you have to put your feelings aside and deal with the problem.
also the fact that Master Eraqus and aqua had the ability to stop xehanort with Yen sid.
and here's another thing that makes it even worse when you have entities like the genie from Aladdin the fairy godmother the three fairies and Merlin's magic at their side to even strengthen their forces and chose not to do anything that sealed Terra's fate.
How did you know?)
Also, f*ck King Mickey!
Lmao yeah definitely not obvious at all
I would like to add that Aqua wasn't always supposed to be a hero. According to Nomura, she was originally supposed to join Xehanort willingly but test audiences didn't like that scenario.
@@brimstoneclub I never knew that. That would have been an interesting direction to take the story

Paupo trio- Childish phase: Sora jealous of riku. Trying to beat him in a race. Fighting over kairi. Riku being jealous over sora (new friends goofy and donald)
Seasalt trio- teenage phase: Roxas fighting for what he wants and desires despite the outcome of what will happen.
Aqua was always mature but she always questioned in the end like any other mature adult does today “Are we making the right decisions in life?”
Kingdom hearts grew up with its fans
When your trying to break the record for how many times Xenahort and is counterparts say "darkness"
Lool yeah I guess that happens when you just speak unscripted. The only thing missing is me saying "X-blade" a dozen times
I can’t wait to see what happens to the trio in the next KH game especially with all of their experiences.
She's his friend and he was going to use the darkness against her because a part of him really wanted to win and become a master."*
Do you mean in the Mark of Mastery?
For all Eraqus and Xehanort say this, it doesn't really reflect on his attitude.

Technically Ventus was possessed by the personification of darkness that came from itself
Too long bro many won’t read that😂
I've always thought aqua is one of THE STRONGEST keyblade users. Definitely top 3
I hope we get to see the more grownup versions of the other Destiny Islands trip. Bring in the original voice actors too, I want to hear Tidus' stupid laugh in KH.
Rip any more Colosseum worlds
I've been playing Kh1 on proud mode recently and all I can say is, I never want to hear the words "you really think you can beat me" ever again lol
I think they'll all have to come to a sort of balanced understanding by the end of all this
Isn't that what Riku's become? He fights for the light but he uses his darkness in that fight.
@@devonm042690 not really. He serves the light. The Grey Jedi, while obviously not evil, walk neither side. They wisest in the middle served neither light nor dark while drawing from both
or embrace them both
riku:am i a joke to you?
Dude you mentioned that it would have been better that riku saved aqua. I agree completely, like you said poetic, but also it would have shown how strong riku is. There is too much plot armor surrounding Sora, there was literally no way riku couldn’t handle himself in the dark real, and against Aqua.
Dude... thank you for giving this character work its due recognition. I've been so tired of people ragging on this trio like they were just a shallow copy of the main trio. I love this trio to death.
I also agree that it should have been Riku to save Aqua, but I guess it would have been too perfect
wow, that's the exact opposite of my perspective.
Terras "Thank you" in 3 is honestly one of the greatest moments in gaming
Ah yes, the mother, the father, and the child
God could you imagine if the trios darker half’s came out and kept antagonizing them during the next game
"Nothing is either good or bad just thinking it makes its makes it so" - Shakespeare
Talking about the clip at 10:30
Keep up the great videos there always great this is a perfect explanation on why birth by sleep is fantastic
I still calll the Wayfinder Trio the "Chasers" Because of that ultra old KH1 secret video where people were calling them chasers.
It really shouldn't have been Sora that set her free.
I believe they should've pushed the Riku relationship further as he's the one who
actually has been controlled by and broken free from darkness.
All of Kingdom Hearts games chronologically from Union Cross to 3 is known as the Prelude to Darkness. It's only act 1 out of unknown.
I cannot wait to see what act 2 holds
i cried because i love wayfinder trio so much whoops
we really need bigger segments of them in the next game(s)... like more fleshed out, seeing their thoughts and traumas and ways of coping with what they've been through
For once there's a youtuber who doesn't think roxas is their favorite.
Lol I'm sure I'm not the only one. But I will confess he was my favourite before BBS came out 😅
Roxas is a pretty good character, though my personal favorite at the moment is Ven.
Aqua really fought both terra and Ventura sheesh
I’m excited for whenever Ventus says ‘hey I’m older than y’all’
@@lucapeyrefitte6899 omg I have thought about that so many times!
I'm so happy to see your perspective on my favorite trio! The Seasalt trio may have been the ones to introduce me to the series in their game but I have always loved the Wayfinder trio so much more. You have excellent taste sir, you've earned a subscriber.
Take a drink everytime he says darkness
Kingdom Hearts giving that Persona vibe
Good video! Now you've got me hoping for a game with the Wayfinder trio in the Realm of Darkness searching for Sora.
I can agree with Terra's desire to be the strongest.
Was gonna joke that they have all been possessed
You beat me to it
1:20 what you said about Aqua why i just subscribed ! Just saw this in my yt recommendations, looking forward to checking out your other vids
I wonder if Chirithy also went with them into the realm of darkness? Because Chirithy can go in and be fine but Chirithy can also be turned dark. Was this Chirithy originally Ven's or are they the only one left?
Ventus is my favorite 💚
It seems everyone has their own personal favorite trio, but for me it'll always be the denstiny islands trio Sora, Riku, and Kairi 🥰
I just realized, the main 3 trios can represent the 3 main elements of kingdom hearts, being the darkness, the light, and nothingness, along side heart, mind, and body on the individual level... they better not scrap this when they make new characters, as that's a solid as hell base, even when being lazy.
the world of darkness should have been an actual playable area, with aqua as the boss of the level
In a future game, I want my Player character from Union X to get his rematch against Darkness.
ive literally only seen plot summaries about the Kingdom Hearts franchise and the only SE game ived played is FF7R, but when i saw those summaries and saw these three, i immediately was taken in with the simplicity and perfectness of these three's story while i honestly was just kinda cringing when hearing about the other characters in the series, i see now why everyone went ballistic when Aqua was shown in that one trailer for KH3
I don't think it's destroyed, but I think a lot of us can agree there was a lot of missed potential
Drinking game, take a shot every time he says "DARKNESS"
SUPREME DARKNESS!
Grew up with this trio rather than the original trio so I like them more.Too me their the main characters of the story especially with their connection with xehanort.
I hope each member of the wafinder trio gets an animated scene with Namine. Terra technically has a scene but it hasn't been animated to my knowledge
Loving your KH videos!!
This video was absolutely beautiful and the wayfinder trio is my favorite trio on the kh franchtise. Also you is a man if culture because aqua is my waifu with reason. 😭👍🏾💙💚🧡
Damn that thumbnail looks so good
Wayyfinder trio is the best trio, and yeah I never though that all of the were posses by darkness. I need another game with them, I wanted birth by sleep volume 2 to be real. And basically it could still happen, just set way later to what they first though during that teaser of bbs final mix.
Very interesting analysis. I love it!
My favorite trio in the series
Okay but Aqua didn’t really fall to darkness, Ansem SoD came in and pew pewed some darkness into her. I see a lot of people kind of retroactively trying to rewrite some parts of KH3 to make it sound better than it was but we just have to face the music at this point, KH3 had some subpar writing and we just need to accept that. Aqua falling into darkness after enduring for a long ass time until she eventually couldn’t anymore and gave up is a great story, but it’s not the story we were told.
She got hit by the Mega Destruction Dark Ball of Darkness and Destruction
And Knuckles
@@astra3766 ah classic just a pancake 😂🤣🥰
Aqua’s monologue when she’s possessed isn’t Ansem’s work, she spills out all repressed feelings about being abandoned, about her not being able to defend herself, Ansem definitely pushed her to that destination, but I can't say it was just his thing, so she was traumatized
I mean she did fall he shot her yes but that doesnt mean she couldnt have fought. She fell because at that moment she gave up and let it consume her.
I love Aqua and Riku.To bad he needed Sora's help to save her.
Because of an old man wearing latex
*DARKNESS* has *entered* all three of them
So basically Terra just needed to learn anger management got it
Anti-Aqua de depressive darkness.
Let's all have a drinking game where everytime he says "darkness" in the video, we all take a shot.
These three are unique, sure, but now that they're all done with Xehanort, the only reason to keep them around is to have them deal with their trauma. However this will be an issue because either Nomura ignores that entirely and they're all good now, or Disney doesn't want these things to be adressed (because Disney bad, as usual lol)
I do heavily appreciate your optimism in regards to future games dealing with it, because by golly we NEED some positive outlooks at this point 😂 And another thing I must add is that BBS failed to depict the trio in the way you presented them here, the RUclipsr King K has also put his thoughts in his retrospective and at the time I was shocked at how he reached these conclusions in the first place, similar to your insights.
It just sort of bothers me that with these 3, Aqua is relatively stupid, yet next to Terra and Ven, she’s a scholarly saint 😂
Aqua won't be alone anymore. Not on my watch ! (She was my teen crush lol)
take a shot every time he says "possessed by darkness"
They all have had a little nort
Your jokes are damn hilarious lmao
I still find it funny that Terra is the main villain 😭
Amazing video! Loved the wayfinder trio... I've always saw the pain they have had to endure and wonder how it'll end.
And what are the two songs played in this video (during the video and the one at the end credits)?
Thanks! The background song is "Tears of the Light" from Birth By Sleep and the outro music is "End Titles" from Dreamfall Chapters
They're also the group that
*SPOILER*
ATTEMPTED MURDER (i mean almost attempted murder) aqua almost killed mickey, terra almost killed eraqus, and ventus killed streletzia
Ventus also was possessed by darkness, or manipulated by it in Kingdom Hearts X I think. He doesn’t remember the past tho
It’s a shame Vanitas never got the redemption he deserved. He was controlled and manipulated by Xehanort, just like the rest of the Trio.
5:55 like anakin but wait thinking about he did because of padme
At first I though: Ooh, I'll play the drinking game & take a shot whenever I hear the word "darkness"
