Extra notes: Already existing pieces of music can be salvaged using this technique by backtracking. Scenario: can't get past the first eight bars. Deconstruct a clear mood from the first eight bars, and create a structure with that mood in mind. Perhaps these eight bars can be developed later to sound angrier, or joyful. Create a B theme with an opposing mood and put that right next to the 8 bars. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE 8 BARS OVER AND OVER AGAIN as that will trick your brain into thinking it is a loop. Scenario: half way through a sketch, but feel dead-ended. This is what usually happens when you don't think of a clear structure before writing. The fix is to think of one NOW, rather than putting it off. Brainstorm ways to extend your existing structure so that it can naturally continue. Perhaps you already have half of a sonata form, or are stuck writing the B section of a rondo (ABACA), either way, think about it, and take action, even if it may require ripping parts out to have it all make sense. You could also continue the piece as if their was never a roadblock (even if it sounds completely wrong), and once you reach a decent conclusion, edit it a bunch of times until it sounds the way you want it. If there are any more scenarios that you are having trouble with, feel free to respond to this, and I, or any of composers watching can try to help!
When I write lyrics, the music comes to me at the same time. But this is very helpful for when I want to write instrumental music! Thanks!🎶😁
Good to hear this video helped! And of course, use whatever technique works the best for you.
Muchas gracias, sencillo pero fundamental a la hora de escribir. Saludos!
