- This one kind of speaks for itself, gang. Of all the knives, guns and tools you'll ever see on this channel, the Victorinox Cadet has seen more actual use in my hand than any other. For under $30, if you are a man, you need one... So if you don't have one, get one :)

The most important tool is one YOU HAVE when you need. I have several very nice Leatherman at home but...my
silver Victorinox Cadet is always in my pocket even when I'm in a shirt and tie. Those slim Alox scales make the
Cadet discrete to pocket carry. Its "good enough" in most cases although a scissors would be nice....8)
Just bought a cadet today based soley on this review. Thanks man, and God Bless! ... Love this knife
The finger nail file tool is perfect for small Phillips head screws commonly found on children's toys for battery compartments, it is also perfect for loosening knots in rope and 550 cord.
I've been carrying a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife every day for 20+ years, but not a Cadet. They are essential EDC gear and compliment a modern folder perfectly.
Wonderful EDC! Only the scissors are missing to make it perfect!
There's a pioneer X and farmer X which bother have scissors
@@destinationbushcraft1833 True, I love both of those, but the 93mm alox are larger and much heavier than the Cadet (Pioneer X is twice the weight).
I have had this knife for nearly 20 years and had no idea it was still made. I love this baby and have used it daily as a cable installer. Never failed me once and is still flawless today except the knife blade is slightly smaller after 20 of regular sharpening touch ups. Bomb proof little knife. With this and my original Leatherman Wave, I can manage just about any task.
Best advice yet! Worked in car dealerships for years and it got me out of so many binds.
I went from a Leatherman Skeletool to a Victorinox Cadet last year. No knock on the Leatherman - best multi tool out there, but the Cadet is such an awesome, practical, light and small edc. Very well made and designed.
I carry Pioneers but thinking of buying the Cadet for my son for his first camping trip with his school. These coloured alox handles look great. The wire bender is not just for bending: when you open it to the 90-degree position you can insert the wire in the notch then close the knife blade on it and by rotating the knife you can cut through the insulation to strip the wire.
That green alox is fantastic!
I totally agree, i got a few victorinox alox, and this size is perfect, this and the lumberjack are the most fancy , and for something stronger of work, ill get to my farmer which i absolutely love as well...
This knife never goes out of my pocket. There is something special about it.
I have a lot leathermans and another pocket tools but thid one love to bits.
The inly problem is that now i cant stop buying this. Have allready about 16 victorinox alox knifes.
I've used the Waiter as EDC for many years but since most cheaper wine bottles no longer have corks so I can do without that. The most used item was the toothpick, but I actually did cut up a Swiss Card and just kept the toothpick, tweezer and nail file part and this goes in my coin pocket even on a plane.
I like the Alox versions because they are stronger and you can actually put them in the dishwasher to clean if needed. The Cadet is my city EDC now and I refer to it as the gentleman's pocket tool. I do have the alox Bantam if I want even more light weight and thinner. In the outdoors I carry the Pioneer or my Dutch Army soldier model as last resort knife. I still did not dismiss the red plastic handle Waiter and Spartan but I throw them in my pocket as extra when on a city trip for instance, on a picknick or visiting friends where a bring a bottle of wine with a cork and not everybody has a corkscrew any more.
Cadets are nice and thanks for the reminder. Buying another color today. But I get more use out of the Classic SD. Haven't been without one for over 30 years. Small scissors for errant nose & mustache hairs, tweezers for splinters, tooth pick. All useful in daily life for me.
You know, the file blade is also useful for striking a ferro stick. Kinda like the awl on a Pioneer. For its size, the Cadet is an amazing tool.
I bought mine last year and it's in my pocket everyday now with a small Led Lenser keyring flashlight attached to it.
It's an indispensable tool and everyone should have one. My nail file is different, it's lined and sharper than the diamond type.
I thought these were kids toys and was almost embarrassed to carry one. I have the field master and I’ve used it every single day for 2 years now! I find that I reach for it almost exclusively more than my bm 940 (my favorite knife). Can’t beat victorinox functionality. Just ordered cadet while watching this.
I kinda like using my Cadet as a keychain knife. Thinking about getting another one. Thanks for the video!
That can opener makes a Great orange peeler for me. The way the can cutting edge points down and works with the them to strip peels away is excellent.
Works with the "thumb". Silly autocorrect!
Tilbily that's an awesome idea!!!
The can opener is fantastic on victorinox knives. Can opener, wire stripper, wire bender, flat screwdriver, phillips screwdriver, orange peeler, corkscrew...
They also on the midnite mini champ have a tool called an orange peeler
I'm picking up an used one for my own collection. An alox cadet in silver.
I've been sticking with my favourite sd classic, but to switch it up to a cadet and a climber, it should be perfect.
My climber is pretty much heading out with me on vacation. Same as my sd classic!
Looks like the perfect knife to have, in hand, under an apple tree, later this year. Other uses are a bonus. But not much tops eating a ripe peach, pear, or apple pulled from the tree. Thanks for sharing & making my mouth water, at the though of the upcoming harvest. God Bless. The Greatest harvest is yet to come.
Funny that you post this now - I just bought 3 of these, to give to the groomsmen in my wedding. I also had the blade laser engraved by KnifeWorks. A great little gift for under $35 total.
I did the same thing when Heidi and I got married. I just couldn't think of a groomsmen's gift that would have more real and lasting value than a Cadet. Well done, my friend!
For anyone curious, the steel type on almost all Victorinox is 1.4110 (also known as X55CrMo14).
That wire bender is also used in conjunction with the main blade to strip wires. Put a small wire in the notch, kick the driver into half stop position with the main blade half open, close the main blade on the wire and turn it. The driver in the half stop holds the wire, and the blade trying to close cuts as you turn the frame. I hope I explained it right.
My SAK's are my most used EDC items too. Glad you're enjoying yours too!
hey just discovered your vid! nice one, gave a thumbs up :) i have a silver cadet for over a year now and carried it everywhere at any given moment since, i love it. its my favorite EDC item. i milled the keyring hole to get it smooth since i don't need a keyring on it, it just rides in my left front pocket all the time :) together with the fenix E05 it makes a perfect lightweight EDC! i love it. i tried a lot of different edc knifes and tools, but the cadet suits me best. so small, durable, compact, thin, lightweight and useful...just awesome!greetings from germany to all the cadet lovers :D
Great to hear from you, my friend! Thanks for commenting :)
So I watched this video and when it was over I jumped on to Amazon and purchased a cadet. I got it today and I cannot believe I went this long without one of these in my pocket!! Thanks for spending my money!! =) Hate to say it, but it may replace my Leatherman juice.
I own both, and they have different places in my carry. My mulititool stays in my EDC pack and my Cadet in pocket. There are just some things I do during the course of the day that a Cadet can handle, and the pocket is closer than the pack.
I wish they would make a Bantam X with the scissors added to keep a nice thin knife!
sounds like an alox version of the compact
my grandpa got me this for cgristmas. one of the best knives ive ever used.
Get 2, get 3! Brilliant! I've 20 SAKs now and no Cadet! It's on my list! I work in a car dealership too as a photographer and use a variety of SAKs every day!
Just got a cadet yesterday. I've been carrying a wenger highlander since the late 90's so I'm hoping my new cadet will serve me as well as my old wenger has.
I like the compact with the writing pen ,and de hook !
I own a few small knives, “a wenger evo 81” is my keychain knife and a couple big ones including the “champ” which is a safe queen. But I’ve never owned a anox cadet. Just bought one and it’s on it’s ways as I type.
If you can live without the nail file the bantam is a better choice for everyday half the thickness and the same tools
I sharpened the tip of the nail file, chisel grind. Now it's an awl.
what an awl for?
Uh, to make holes in stuff? Thats what we do in the woods sometimes, even when not in the woods.
@@Zaloomination i think the intended purpose is leather patchwork but I use mine for boring small holes in tree limbs
Great vid. Do you still carry it? Or have you changed your ways?
Very fun and informative footage my friend. Thanks again for getting into my wallet :) God bless you Rob
I use my Victorinox Rally more than my Cadet, but it's hard to go wrong with any SAK.
I really like the electrician version. It's similar to this except it adds a electrician blade with wire scraper and deletes the can opener which I never use anyway.
Funny, I am watching this on October 13, Friday the 13th, 2023. So this is still true, I gave a Thin Blue Line Victorinox, (Special Addition) earlier this morning. He retired from the Florida Highway Patrol after 37 years. I’ll send him this video.
Thats also a wire stripper, I put a small slice on a wire with that knife and strip it with that tool. Also i put a mini flashlight on that keyring. Good tool
I have three (black, silver & red) with Bantam on the way! Love em
Got to say the alox farmer X with the reamer, saw and scissors is my go to all day long everyday
The Cadet punches way above it's weight class.
She's a classic alright. The Cadet is my personal choice, but ya gotta hand it to Victorinox, they have a model to suit everyone. No collection would be complete w/o one, and they sure do get the most real use. Built like a little tank, for what they are.
that thing is bloody sharp!
I'm a fan of Victorinox. My personal favorite is the small Tinker.
Enjoyed the video i belive i am going on ebay and pick one up see were it would be a great edc knife and tool. All have a very blessed day Randy.
You too, Randy! You wont' be disappointed :)
Resharpen mine on the truck window every so often. Great knife.
There is a documentary about the victorinox factory... and i did see the monitor in that factory when they where checking in the rolls of steel and it was a 15cr something mov steel if im correct... that documentary is on you tube if you want to check yourself... greets...
I use my finger nail file EVERYDAY! LOL Thats so funny! I Love the Nail file!
The end there sounded like a mantra that has been drilled into your head from an early age.
Yep, it is called "Salvation"......
I did purchase the spartan or you can also get the tinker with the screw driver I think that the cadet has not enough capabilities but yours is very easy to carry nice vid
...and then a Cadet. Love it!! :)
Great! A call to action!!
I'm a fan of the Spartan
I agree. That's a realy grate little tool
Honestly, I'd trade the nail file for an 84mm version of the alox awl/reamer in a heartbeat but the Cadet is THE knife/tool for everyone.
440 A or B, when I visited factory in 2010 they told me, but nice lady was hard to understand, but I know its 440 something, soft steel but very nice to sharpen...
Possibly the greatest Swiss Army knife ever conceived.
That green with orange is very good looking. I thought that Victorinox had discontinued the colored Cadet's.
The other day I was talking to an old friend and he produced a knife from his pocket in just awful condition. I am not the sharpener you are yet but I do customer knives usually for other Navy guys. What I saw was pretty common. He said well you baby your knife, I use mine for a tool. I said, no brother, I have a Swiss Army knife in my other pocket for all that jazz. I love a cadet. Glad Nutnfancy sold them through the roof and kept them in production. If everybody had one, knife sharpener guys wouldn't have to take so much meat off your main blades. Just sayin'.
A nice knife, but there is a trade off for the nice alox scales, that's why I prefer the Sportsman as it has the corkscrew, awl, toothpick, and tweezers in addition to the Cadet toolset.
exactly ! The alox scales are sturdy and thin but the Sportsman is more versatile. I like the Climber for EDC as well.
Gotta ask - did you make your own lanyards for those.
Thank you,
No scissors means a no go. I prefer the mini champ, or executive. Both fit in a watch pocket.
Amen! That's about all I can say.
I also love the cadet!!
But im considerably older thsn you are. And i need the toothpick these days.
I almost forgot how addicted I am to the Soldier and Bantam Alox models but after watching this I have to buy another Victorinox.
Waiting for one of these to get to my mail box, however, not sure if I'm gonna like it better then my victorinox swiss army 7
the split ring you can use it for fishing just run the line through it
...and then a cadet. Haha love it 👍🏻
Everything else aside...is there a knife out there (any brand) that will last the test of time like a Victorinox? People carry these things around for 20 plus years like it's commonplace. I just don't see my Delica 4 or Benchmade 707 lasting that long lol
How does the nail file compare to the can opener as a philips driver? Why a Cadet instead of a Recruit, which is basically the same, only with the small blade instead of the file and the original scales with the toothpick and tweezers?
These are great, I'd carry one if I didn't already EDC a Swisschamp.
Dude, a Swiss Champ is not an edc. It's for apocalypse-like situations
If you like the Cadet you should definitely check out the Victorinox Bantam. Due to the combined bottle and can opener is has almost the same functionality but only half the weight and size. :) I have compared them in a Video. Yes, it is german but maybe you can still get an impression: Victorinox Cadet vs. Bantam
apostle p well you can tell mike the pointy file fingernail cleaner tip actually works pretty well as an in line philips head, so yeah not a useless tool at all!
I like the pioneer / Soldier so I bought that one instead. Just for the Awl and bigger knife .
Just now joined the Cadet cult
Eternal advice indeed my friend. Mark 8:36 - and I'm checking Amazon now
You got that right, Dean!
Nice review !!
I'm good with my 30year old "climber".
Ofcourse cadet is my rotation some time.
Amen Brother!
Rare as it is there are some days the Cadet is the only knife on me, but usually it's the Cadet & a folder.
I was waiting on my doc the other day and instead of doodling on my phone I whip out my Cadet & cleaned all the dirt from under my nails : )
3mm driver is used more than the blade.
"Ultimate EDC Item"...Yes I'll go with that and add most gifted knife.
That was the one thing I wish I had mentioned in the video -- it's the best "guy gift" for under $30 we can give. I know I've given many more Cadets than I've kept for myself :)
I do have I have a red one and a blue one and I love them
I'd miss the pin, tweezers, pen and toothpick that go into the regular scales... Alox doens't have them :(
Have a few Alox scales victorinoxes lying around... always end up with one of my knives as a main blade and a vicorinox huntsman plus.
I must say, I slightly prefer the toolset on the pioneer (awl instead of file) but why not have both!?
Ecactly :)
No more thinking about,,,,I’m buying today
I know I'm late to the video but I love my pink cadet. You all may laugh at the color but it is a beautiful knife,
I'll stick to my evo, love the cadet but love scissors more.
No corkscrew!
I like the Spartan.
But if I could only have one alox SAK that would be a Farmer
Been looking at the cadet for awhile but it is down the list a bit currently. I went with the Victorinox Money clip and a squirt awhile back.
Can someone help me out I am trying to choose my first multi tool but can't decide on a victorinox cadet or tinker or the leather man wingman I will be carrying in my pocket everyday which one do you recommend I'm 13 btw
My EDC in the city is the Deluxe Thinker... Has all u need 😉
The steel that Victorinox uses is amazing. Their knives are so rust resistant and the blades take a fantastic edge.
The shield is in fact stamped metal as well.
The Recruit. A better version of the Cadet.
The Cadet is nice, but it lacks the single most important tool available on a SAK....
...the toothpick.
:)
Jeff Nicholson I almost chose the recruit over the cadet but I don't believe it comes in the Alox version. I wanted a secondary slim lightweight companion to my modern folder rotation much like Robs edc carry. If the recruit comes out in the Alox I would pick one up.
n680 is a nitrogen steel, I doubt victorinox uses it or something similar. it might be something close to 12c27, 440a or one of the similar .5-.6% carbon and 13-15% chromium steels.
Personally imma leatherman guy but my favorite Swiss Army knife is the cadet
Rob, how do you compare the Cadet to the Pioneer? How relevant do you consider the difference in size to be? Or, for that matter, do you own a Pioneer?
Don't own a cadet but I do own two pioneers (regular and the 2015 limited edition)
it depends on what you prefer, I'd rather have an awl than a nailfile.
I carry the fatmer the most though, love the woodsaw
I use the cadet as a desk knife and the Swiss champ as an edc
Swiss Army Knife Wire Stripper
Here's the "wire bender" in action. It's more useful than you'd imagine.
