Josh, thanks for all of your contribution to the RC building hobby. A little late on this thread however there is a need to expand on a point you made in this video. First the VS4-10 chassis is a definite upgrade to the stock Associated Enduro. This video is what motivated me to make the change. You modified the VS4-10 chassis front shock towers to use the stock associated shocks citing the associated shock towers would limit the travel because of the panhard bar mount. I tried that approach and then tried using the stock associated shock mounts in the front and back. The stock associated mounts worked best and helped the front end geometry work optimally. That being said I also went with 84mm shocks with grey springs (1.49in lbs.) to lower the cg. The VS4-10 shock mounts are 4mm taller the the associated. This change has made a good crawler into a great crawler. Now I just need to upgrade the driving skills to keep up.
Very surprised as to how easy the frame swap was. I really enjoy your videos when you tear into the guts of things. The more technical and reasoning behind it the better.
I appreciate you taking the time to post this up... I have the RTR Sendero, a VS410 chassis kit, VS410 Pro bumpers, SSD Pro44 axles, and the Enduro utility bed for mine... (and TSL THORNBIRDS!) and I was curious as to the difficulty level of dealing with different geometries... I'm going to discard the BTA steering to make it easier. All the take-offs are going to a completely different, low-key build for later.
I copy-pasted your first job on the overdrive install, took it to the woods, and thought it did ok. Back in the shop, I wanted to see the plus speed on the front axle versus the rear. Funny enough, the rear ran a little faster than the front... So I grabbed the manual, and found that one of my RC-Gurus had made a big mashup!!! So when you're gonna visit Denmark (not like the POTUS didn't) You will bring Rumballs and Treestams...
The scaler fab prerunner Cherokee front bumper fits nice, needs a little grinding out of screw holes to fit correctly, and has great aprotch angle, but we installed a wertymade element bumper, because I am using the S.F. bumper on my VS410 chassis kit. The wertymade is very nice and looks great, but I liked the aprotch angle of the scaler Fab XJ bumper better. It was very hard to decide I switched them back and forth for a long time. It's the S.F. prerunner without fairlead and shackle mounts.
It is really coincidental you did this video as this was something i had been wondering about. I built the Element kit with all the hard plastic pieces and it still is a bit twisty. It is good to know that i can go forward putting the 410 chassis in and it wont be a major re-construction project. Great job, and thank you for doing the research on this. I know a lot of us Element owners have been asking a lot of questions about what will fit and how much work it would require.
Way cool bro. Wish maybe you'd run some before/after stats..like ascent/descent and sidehill %..but, the main thing is that you increased suspension travel.
On the second run of element sendero the front diff locked up,then it unlocked and both front wheels wobbled with a loud noise and metal shaving coming out of it,bringing it back to the shop I bought it from to find out what is the problem (I don't want to do it as it still in warranty)
