I love setting up with the arms tips you show us. The left pit at 45* and the right pit straight out Has really changed things for the better. Thank you sooooooo much for the simple setup
I used to live on a golf course and play to a 6 handicap. A move and an injury later and almost 10 years have passed without playing. I’ve struggled to find any form and probably play to a 15 on a good day now. It’s embarrassing. This one video of the tens of thousands on YT has given me back that old feeling of effortless power and crisp ball striking! I honestly can’t thank you enough brother! Shhhh. I definitely won’t tell any of my golf mates about this one 😅hahahaha. Again, thank you!
Wow Wow Wow !, this is the true Eureka moment for me, really, your explanation of some details about where and when accelerate and decelerate are pure GOLD !!!
Hands-down the best explanation I've ever seen of the the significance of the trail elbow-pit. Perhaps the ONLY time I've ever heard a clear WHY this is imprtant.👍Feels like a follow-up contrasting this with the driver, and why this drill is recommended for irons and woods, would be so awesome!! I am sure the difference is subtle hitting slightly up but an explanation would nonetheless be eye opening. For example, a version of this drill done differently to hghlight the differences in feel???
I do not always drop comments on RUclips, but I had to do this one. Thank you very much for making this video. This particular setup improved my game today. Presently, I am handicap 28. Before my game, I went to the range and practiced the arm placement as you advised. It worked perfectly. Please, guys, try this out. It works perfectly.
This video shows some swing set up components referenced in Ben Hogans book (5 lessons). Theres reference to tucking in the trail elbow and straightening the lead arm (RH player) which creats incredible torque and assists in setting the club on the right path. Ive statred to implement this on the practice area and course and the compression is insane and it promotes a very powerful swing, great video - thanks
Hello. Found your channel today. I have to hand this one to the algorithm Gods because this video on arm structure is EXACTLY what I have been searching for! For some reason, my lead arm was getting into complete external rotation to prevent the left miss. (I may have picked this up from a DeChambeau video) but is destroyed my iron play. I could not find a video at this level of detail anywhere else. Thanks and new subscriber!
Past few days at the range I’ve been focusing on a more Hogan style swing. Especially with my right elbow, grip and arms close together. I’ve really started to notice the lag at the top of the swing. And now every time I feel that at the top I know it’s gonna be a great shot. Good video!
Great tips!! I start with 70% of my weight on my front foot at set up. I see your front foot is slightly flared out, which helps with rotation having the lead hip move back and not forward. Your demonstration of arm position is critical to be consistent. Ben Hogan!
Wow! I really think this guy is right. I do all the faults he talks about regularly, and know that I need to do exactly what he's talking about to hit great golf shots. I will definitely be trying this out soon.
I have been trying to find a way to train that hands first move. This will help me with the sequencing. Especially the stopping, which is probably my issue. Thanks.
A great, simple explanation with part one and part two. Thanks Giles. As this is just another video tip I can pass on to others when I get asked how I can hit my iron targets with minimal effort. As I believe too many people are trying to change multiple things at once and when it doesn’t work they have no idea which one didn’t work based upon overwhelming changes. Love it.
Another truly awesome drill. When put into practice it becomes only 1 swing thought throughout my play. I also grip the driver with the grip towards the ground before a round. Works the same with less equipment. I'm not trying to add to the lesson, just a little lazy I guess;). Really nice lesson.
Great explanation of arms at address. Looking forward to practicing these drills. I notice your lead foot does a little tap during your backswing, is that a trigger for you or is something you’re not even thinking about? Cheers
Thank you for the great lesson seems to be hard to get that left elbow at 45 degrees at 62 years old there's some pain going on there when I try to really straighten my arms up. I guess you just do the best you can do as you get older. It makes me feel like I'm too tight and stiff when I get my elbow straight also and I know we're supposed to be loose
Five stars! These are the elements I wish golf instructors taught 30+ years ago when I started (vs. forearm rotation to square the clubface, which the body interprets as over-the-top).
Very very helpful lesson! Thanks Do you have a vid lesson on cleaning the lead hip? I have difficulty getting out of way for arms to drop thru. Thanks again
Hi! And again some great content! :) This works very good with my irons, thank you for that! But as i´ve tried this drill with my driver it didn´t work very well. Is there somithing different to consider with the driver?
Great video, I’ve seen a few people explaining similar theory and have tried it myself but find it really inconsistent. What could be happening to cause a straight push when trying this? (Impossible without video of course but general idea?)
Hi Giles, do you have a video on the influence of shaft stiffness? As I’ve come across several golfers recently who have gone with stiff shafts when their swing speed is around 80 mph. I understand this speed is better suited to a regular flex, just can’t articulate or show why. The flex with the stop in this drill does help. Cheers!
That’s it! ☝🏻 I have always struggled with trying to hold the finish; wondered how tour pros finish their swing in that beautiful posted up position with so much clubhead speed. In an attempt to generate enough club speed, I guess I, too, accelerate through impact (scooping, etc). Never realized I needed to SLOW the arms down to fully extend through impact. Thank you 🙏🏻 I am so going to focus on that tomorrow on the course ⛳️🏌️♂️ 🤞🏻 Wish me luck 🍀
Had always struggled with chicken winging in release and had no clue how to fix it. Everything I watch says lets the hands drop and then rotate and accelerate through the ball. However, this just amplies and exagerates my chicken wing. Trying this felt complete different and almost effortless through the ball yet with a more consistent low point. Need to really try and drill this to get a feel but it honestly felt completely different. Why do so many teach you to just let the hands freely drop rather than power them down and then let off through the ball?
I noticed you lift your left toes as you approach the top of your swing. I'm sure it's deliberate. Does this help with your weight shift or does it serve some other purpose? Thanks!
I noticed that in your golf swing that the ball is not in the center of your stance, it looks like it is closer to the heel of your lead foot. Is that correct or where should the ball position be?
What’s confusing about it? Hands accelerate as you start down, they then put the breaks on which allows the club to release giving you clubhead speed The exact same principle when using a whip or casting a fishing line Simple
Sorry, but your second shift doesn’t work for me. There is no way I could straight my arms out like you do I will climb in trees and buildings, my whole life my arms don’t work that way, but I will report to each other but they won’t point outside like you do good video.
This is also an amazing power move & provides an effortless release!
I love setting up with the arms tips you show us. The left pit at 45* and the right pit straight out

Keep this one quiet, but be sure to take a look at some of my senior specific videos as they will massively help
After many lessons. watching your video something clicked in my head and now I understand thank you.
Amazing! Glad it helped & it has clicked

This is the drill I always use at the range to get me swinging well. I also had some of my best shots during a round with this thought.
It’s amazing!
This is very well explained.

Great explanation of arms at address. Looking forward to practicing these drills. I notice your lead foot does a little tap during your backswing, is that a trigger for you or is something you’re not even thinking about? Cheers
It is a trigger and it prevents me from getting too much in my left toes

Great video, I’ve seen a few people explaining similar theory and have tried it myself but find it really inconsistent.

Shaft stiffness isn’t just about swing speed. It’s about launch & how you release it. Can help eliminate a big miss too
@@Gilesgillgolf Cheers. Would love to see a video to help explain the how part. 😁

Because they don’t know what they’re talking about. Harsh but it’s the truth

Hi, Brilliant video...A suggestion is to speak a little slower with pauses between the words...Thanks.
Thanks for the tip
I rarely compress my irons, but when I do, it feels as if I’m throwing the club. Is that the correct feeling?
Yes, that’s correct
How about the best and easiest shots out of bunkers
Will do!

Of course
What about the driver? Does the same thing happen?
Yes we are just more behind the ball
