For a DLC that I got for a fraction the cost of the base game, it felt like a full on sequel to me, the inclusion of a story campaign that actually entertained me, ship combat, more authentic spear combat, more fluid on foot movements all together with it taking place during my favourite period of history and including a series of side quests about the myths of my home country just makes VC the best DLC for any game I’ve ever played. With bannerlord out I don’t think I’ll be revisiting base game warband, the gameplay and quality of life improvements have spoiled me, but I will always be willing to return to Viking Conquest
and elites feel like proper elites , most of your army will be relatively speaking levied trash (as was the case) with a small amount of very powerful nobles which can cleave a hole in the opposing shieldwall
@@Mr.Calm. while i dont think that bannerlord is a bad game , i do believe that it will live in the shadow of warband due to the fact that its been in development for a very long time
Best game ever made. So many golden memories raiding Ireland, maintaining a Northumbrian kingdom, or holding a shield wall with my huskarls. May this game never die.
Something I love about this game is that, while being generally grindier than Warband, features like trade, sea travel and warfare, enterprises, bandits, etc, are so well done, that your efforts eventually are well rewarded. You forgot to add how good trade is, in Warband, you basically made your wealth by fighting, trade would rarely ever pay off, most players skip it, generally resorting to the tournament grinding and bandit hunting, which is especially tedious in the beginning of the game, where you suck at fighting, and the tryhards who dare to trade, would end up quitting because profits are so small, they don't even matter.
I bought this DLC at the same time i was reading The Saxon Stories from Bernard Cornwell, and boy what a sinergy it was. The book helped me a lot to understand the history behind and the game to visualize the geography and the period
Upper stab is not what allows spearmen to attack enemies from behind the back of an ally since they are perfectly able to do so with the low stab. Yet it was a wonderful addition that made spear and shield much more enjoyable. And unfortunately ranged oneshots are still a thing in this game due to wide spread of throwing weapons. Had to add 10 points of protection to every helmet in this game and change damage type to thrown spears and javelins to cutting, just like it was done with bows by devs.
I believe the brytenwalda team made viking conquest, so they are pretty much the same. Viking conquest is just more polished for obvious reasons. A paycheck for making it, being one.
Bannerlord become very fast boring. You make battles after battles, and your victories feel weightless because AI reform armies so fast. Also, AI blietzkrieg the cities, but don't defend it, so you have to reconquer it, etc etc. Viking Conquest feel just more alive, you have a lot more things to do. Like you can even say fuck with the warrior life, and become an honest farmer or miner. People sleep too much on this DLC.
I think the main problem with bash is that it's deployment and recovery are too quick and it's animation is too subtle; and like the video said, there's no counter. If one could see it coming as clearly as an attack and do something about it would be great. But as it is, with spear's hitting you from the second rank one will often kinda just go down when "my shield was up damit!"
Shield bash would be fun if it was possible to parry it, however that might create a rabbit hole of fighting game level mechanics (ie. people watching for bash frames, lol).
The mods for this are great. There aren't many. The balance mod version 13 is what I use and I also use an armor mod. They are both still working and work together. I also used to screw around alot with the morghs editor you can edit troops and even add your own. However the ai doesn't really use the added troops you create. A way around this is to edit troops they already use like balancing skills and items. You can take a unit like slaves or farmers and create your own troop tree out of them, and the ai won't use it. So you could have your custom troops, just takes alot of time.
out of the three modules , vc is my favourite , less obnoxiously op cavalry and more focus on infantry + shieldwalls , also i suspect that shield bash is more useful when fighting in shieldwalls cause it makes the enemy susceptible to the 1 million spearmen trying to have a jab at him
Played Vikings Reforged a lot. Once you had enough capital doing the trading routes became a real money spinner. Making your own kingdom was tough though and making handwritten notes about nobles and their relationships was really hard. I can't go back to the blocky graphics now that Bannerlord 2 is out and I eagerly await the Viking version of that! If only Taleworlds would stop their intermittent updates to give mod creators a break...
0:44 how can you change move your camera like that while attacking ? I asked this in the comments of who knows how many youtubers but none of them returned to me .
What I love about this is how the spear, the "King of Weapons", really demonstrates a justification for it's nominer. 200 decent spearmen in your shieldwall, GG.
i think viking conquest was peak mount and blade. i had really high hope for bannerlord but it feels more like mount and blade one at times with your political options. so I come back to this, with the shieldwall modification, its great
"Less emphasis on raged weaponry." Not sure on this. Archers were nerfed for sure (or at least can't get through those shields) but thrown weapons were buffed so much its like being shot at by a gun.
Tbh, I don't mind throwing weapons too much here since there's so many shields in this game. That and we can move relatively quickly in this game with the movement speed setting. Still prefer this module than fighting rhodok armies or even worse, gekokujo mod
@@carlstirlingschannel idk, I'm catching stray 120 damage javelins with my head way more often compared to other modules. Also, in my experience, headshots from bolts/arrows are much easier to survive with good armor and hp pool, although this will vary with the mod.
Ah, yeah this was why it was a good idea to play gekokujo without 100% damage. Many times in that mod I got gatted by a squad of musketeers. I think a big cause of my death in this mod is if I enable shield bash and a bunch of enemy soldiers surround me, so far javelins have been something I can consistently dodge with max move speed@@strategsc2
The Refuge does reduce the soldier wages by half, just like leaving them in a city or castle. The Quarters don't, but the quarters are great for leaving troops behind as you sail across the ocean, or even to gatter a huge army before a siege, so you can refill you ranks.
If you are talking about the storyline then talk to him then some vikingirs will attack you but if you has gone before reaching this part of the story or in sandbox you will fight the old hero and if you win you will get a saxon mail and a Norse nasal helmet
In the acher part it made archers use more tactics because they are very light armored and I'm fine with it I think that archer ( especially crossbowmen ) were very op you can make pure archer army and win easily in VC it's more balanced In the cavalry part I disagree as i hoped that they put better cavs because in pure infantry the norse men wins easily because there better armor and skill there is only one good cavalry which is the frankish knight but they are very expensive to make a real change and money is a big problem in VC
I don't like playing horses all the time. In almost every mount and blade module I have to be on a horse, this is one of the few good times where I don't need one.

I used to do this and build a fabric in every city, before switching to something more agressive. Because when your army begins to be large, some of your soldiers tend to drink wine, ale and beer, and steal fur, gems and maybe other expensive goods (I don't really remeber) that you have in your inventory...🤬
Compared to bannerlord vc has many good features. Firstly the armor actually makes difference. I also liked the era and the units weapons etc. are reallistic.
