My favourite quote from Osama about why he loves owning a TBM850:
"You can do what airliners can do without a single support person. I am not exaggerating here … You are the line guy, flight attendant, PIC, weatherman, dispatcher and everything else. That is what flying is all about for me. I am responsible for EVERYTHING. I can fly from Miami to Oshawa in 3:30 at 31,000 feet and I do not need to involve anyone but myself … including pulling the plane out of the hanger and putting it back in. "

FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
Shoutout to Osama for his airmanship and dedication to continued training. Great video Steve. Thanks!
Very impressed with the pilot in these videos. He is a true professional who is highly skilled and he takes his role as pilot/captain seriously. Very refreshing to see somebody enjoy his hobby so much and with such responsibility. Also, very beautiful plane!
+HorsepowerKings.com I've never seen a truly irresponsible pilot video, probably because they get taken down for investigation or something, but could you link me some examples of big pilot errors?
Choose any one of the incidents where they didn't come back.
Couldn't have said it better myself. What a gentleman.
I’m watching this again now after checking out the release of the TBM 940 this week. Osama is still one of the coolest, most proficient pilots I’ve gotten to watch you fly with on your channel!
Wonderful video.
That inertial separator and spoileron concepts are amazing engineering ideas. ALways cool to see how they come up with solutions to problems.
I just left a comment on Part 1 saying we have a sim for this where I work, and wouldn't you know it, turns out Osama is one of our customers! What a small world. 😄
Osama is so good on film. Explains things so well.
Lovely bit of flying by Osama. Thoroughly professional. He is so passionate about his hobby.
Ain't technology grand. Retired Navy pilot who flew T-45A's (Tacan only - no autopilot) and we would regularly rage around at much higher speeds (when permitted) and still be expected to pull out charts and approach plates while shooting multiple approaches. When I came back through as an instructor in T-45C's, upgrades to INS / ILS / GPS made flying easier, though not simple. IP's had IPADs with Foreflight to back us up while we still made the students work the paper products. That way we could still go down the the "valley of the downs" and have studs come off a TACAN appch to Brownsville right into an approach at Valley followed by McAllen - no autopilot and all paper plates and work the radios / nav / fuel but we could spend more time preventing violations, teaching, taking notes by just swiping through the approach plates. And that was 5 years ago. I wonder if the studs are allowed to use IPADS now too.... Many a helmet fire would erupt in the valley of the downs.
A very professional cockpit for sure. I can appreciate a GA pilot who truly respects what it takes to fly something like a TBM as effectively and professionally as Osama.
Keep it up Steve! I love your content!
+Flightx52 Thanks!
I really, REALLY, enjoy listening to an intelligent, articulate pilot describing his thought process and logic. Most enjoyable video.
I continue to be impressed (and delighted) (and intrigued) at what new technology is doing for aviation. Not just the toys in the cockpit, but the modern materials, composites and cool alloys. You couldn't have made this plane 30 years ago.
I've never had much of an attraction to complex aircraft... until now. TBM850? Want. Thanks again for the education!
OK. I just loved this. Osama explained things so well. Loved learning more about the TBM and about the IFR procedures and how the aircraft worked within the IFR system. Great video. Thanks!
Does Flight Chops drone on endlessly? No. Is Flight Chops full of himself? No. Does Flight Chops have good video production? Yes. Does Flight Chops have good guest? Duh, yes. First, the cute girl who was scared of flying, then the cute instructor, and now a amiable TBM host. Another nice video Flight Chops. I liked hearing about the progression in Machines that your guest purchased and then trained in, very useful.
+radbcc - Thanks! :)
God that is a beautiful aircraft. That is as close to flying in the airlines without actually doing it a person is going to get. I love it!
@FlightChops love your videos and trademark! I’m watching this years after as a non-pilot aviation enthusiast from my home in Thailand, but I was raised in Rochester. Seeing the old hanger at ROC where I spent a little time with the Civil Air Patrol 40-odd Years ago was cool. The TBM is an amazing aircraft, and Osama an accoplished pilot, as generous as talented, and you a gifted v-Logger sharing many adventures with us.
What an impressive General Aviation pilot, and an impressive plane. He's obviously keen, intelligent and well trained. Well done sir. Enjoy your channel Flight Chops.
Great Video! We want more!!! keep up the great work FlightChops!
+FliteTest dude you dont know how long I have been looking for you. I have forgotten your name for like a month now and I really wanted to find you again because I remember I always loved your channel, not sure why I unsubed in the first place.
+FliteTest - Right on - Great to see you here! Love your stuff. I'm working on a drone episode / mini series to address the issues / concerns related to GA regs and such - any interest in collabing on that? I think you guys are the authority on RUclips as far as drones go :P
+FlightChops I just checked out their channel and feel like this collaboration needs to happen.
+FlightChops Lets talk! shoot me an email when you get a moment :) -Austin
+FliteTest and +FlightChops, my two favorite channels?? I'd love to see Josh vs. Steve on a race quad course-- that would really make my day. Any news on the Cub engine rebuild Steve? I know the boys up at FT have a nice grass strip for you!
The TBM850 is an amazing airplane not only to fly but all of the other features that it has. Range, speed, avionics and comfort most importantly on long flights. I would like to thank Osama for his great narration and wish him the best of luck in his aviation career!
Great video. How beautiful are those screens! Love your videos! :)
+Mascaralicious Thanks! I remember seeing you training in Diamonds - but I just had a look at your channel and it seems you're really progressed since then - are you at an airline now flying a big jet?
this guy is my new hero. some look up to celebrities, but he is a real deal
Enjoyed Part 1 and Part 2 equally good, Osama certainly knows his stuff and is the consummate professional. Thanks for a great video which I really felt like i was flying along with your guys!
Appreciate this feedback - I try really hard to make the content as immersive as possible.
AWESOME video as usual Osama is one Cool Guy!More Vids with Osama and plane please?
the TBM is such a beautiful aircraft.
filmed wonderfully ,these videos your putting out are really looking more and more professional.
keep it up
"It's a jet engine, it's warm the minute you start it" is a sentence that makes me soooo jealous as I learn on a piston 172 in wintertime lmao
Great to see the conclusion to this. North up with ForeFlight and track up with paper maps!
Osama seems to be such a genuinely great guy, I am also very impressed in the professional way he conducts himself, he obviously is also very experienced and skilled as well.
I remember when I regularly flew our Cessna 400, the flaps had a very similar effect on the pitch attitude as on the TBM. I ended up landing with T/O setting most of the time, since I most of the airports I approach had long enough runways. Awesome video btw!
Obsessed with the TBM and the sheer power and luxury of other turboprops like it. Always take the chance to check them out on the ramp on the way to the 172K. One day...
i work on turbine engines for the us army. your friend was talking about hot starts the first episode and he is more than right. most of the time it requires a full tear down and rebuild. it takes A LOT of man hours depending on the engine. and the amount of damage.
You have so much to keep up with, in this plane! I hope you have time to enjoy the beauty up there too. : )
Great video Flightchops. Love Osama's attitude and skill.
Truly a beautiful aircraft and the pilot knows how to use it I'm impressed.
I just passed 400hrs total with instrument rating. Currently flying a Piper Malibu Mirage (piston/turbo/pressurized) with G1000 at 80hrs. What I really learned from Osama on this flight is his constant adherence to the AIM regarding radio communications. He did a SUPERB job and is my next area of emphasis to enhance my professionalism. You did a great job editing this and keeping in the nuggets of wisdom Osama was giving out. #BoseA20 #FlyingEasierThanDriving
I loved the vid, as always. Osama seems like a great guy. And this was the first time i heard the term spoileron. I learned alot, very good video.
+biggy5567: I think the Mitsubishi MU-2 had them.
Both TBM850 videos were excellent ! - That is an incredible aircraft and like others, this pilot is my new hero too ! Would love more video with him. Keep em coming, love it !
Turboprops are awsome ! I love my ATR 72-600, got around 2000 hours on the ATR so far. - Great work.
Reminds me of my first turbine flight in a Meridian M500 also coming in to Oshawa on the RNAV for 30. The Meridian and TBM appear to be very similar. Great toys and the G1000 is a dream. It's hard to go back to classic gauges after.
One of FC’s best videos. Osama is a true professional, and a great teacher. Gorgeous bird! I’d love to see S1K and FC take TBM850 N851TB to Key West. 😎👍
Really interesting 2 part video. Loved every aspect of them. That 850 seems like one hell of an all round machine. Osama comes across as a very enthusiastic and professional aviator, as well as being relaxed and fun to fly with. Looking forward to the next TBM video with you guys cruising in the upper levels.
Wonderful video, Mr Chops! Love the professional attitude of Osama. A great lesson for me and my Civil Air Patrol cadets!
Super cool. Well flown and professionally managed...The TBM with G1000 make a great combination. I spent year flying a Airbus 320 and this look like just as IFR capable and even more fun...:)
Super nice aircraft! Thank you to all 3 for sharing this flight & overview of such a nice plane, pilot workload & systems data. This would be my dreamliner. Lol.
Have a great day.
FlightChops, that and the introductory video were awesome, thank you so much for presenting. I shall be watching these more often and sending links to my friend who is qualified and experienced PPL. Cheers!
+Ian Stevenson Thanks Ian!
Love your videos, Mr Flight Chops. Green with envy... sadly my flying is now all simulated. Thank you for what you do.
Glad you’re enjoying the content and able to apply things to your simming Chris.
Steve - you captured the "visual reference" changes very well! I have found that to be the case from the right seat in John's TB20. Not so pronounced, but so different to the 172. Add to that the speed difference and one has to get ahead of it all. Looking forward to the next one.
Im an Arab American GA pilot. I was both surprised and amazed of the tremendous support I’ve gotten from general aviation community. Makes me even more proud to be American. 🇺🇸
Glad to see so many positive comments on this video.
Our strength is in our unity.
This is largely the case for sure, yes.
The Aviation community is awesome!
(and please note that both Osama and I are Canadian, but fly a lot in the U.S. :)
That said, I've had to remove more comments than I'd have liked from the videos with Osama,
and it takes a lot for me to remove comments, but some people are just so negative and hateful.
@@FlightChops thank you very much for your response and thank you for enriching GA content on RUclips!
Wow, it looks HUGE from the inside!
Great video! I was very curious as to how the RNAV approaches looked like. I recently had the opportunity to be doing circuits with a Canadian Forces P3 Orion doing simulated RNAV and such approaches throughout the flight. Awesome to see the instruments and work involved. I've currently logged a dozen or so hrs of dual time, but recently passed my PSTAR and am on my way for my first solo within the next week. Having your videos and website to check out along the way has been a wicked help! Hearing your guests stories like Ossamas on how they approached their endorsements and such is a big help with making decisions for myself. Appreciate all the work you and your sponsors put in!! #BoseA20
Very impressive professionalism. Great experience.
Love these videos. I did my first solo in 1987, but never finished. Now I'm saving up so I can finally finish what I started, and your videos are really getting my juices flowing Thanks! #BoseA20
What a fanTAStic video! Osama flies with such professional demeanor, and you can tell he really knows his stuff.
Osama needs to have his own channel Osama is a dedicated airman who enjoys all that flying has to offer.
That pilot is awesome!! I learned so much from watching him as he was giving great information about the TBM 850. Thanks for sharing again. Wonderful. Who is that guy? flying with him must be amazing
1:40 I am a North-up guy ;)
And yes it makes alot of sense. For instance to compare your Gps with a paper-chart.
+Chris x Awesome! I knew this was going to start a debate :P I'm surprised you're the first to say anything after 5K views :) I hope this thread is the place others come to have this discussion.
Haha :D lets get started ...
Objektive arguments: Build a map of what is around you in your mind. In addition I guess you are able to compare your paperchart faster with your gpsmap. Furthermore you can roughly see which was you are heading.
* Last sentence:
Furthermore you can roughly see in which direction you are heading.
+Chris x What's a paper chart?
+Osama Arafat sorry my fault, I translated it from German. What I tried to say: "normal" sectional aeronautical charts for GA (in Germany we also call them "papercharts" cause they are printed on paper and not digital). Do you see what I mean?
Wow amazing seeing a take off from Oshawa, where I do all my flying with air cadets at Durham flight centre
Thanks for working with him...makes me want to buy a TBM when I hit the jackpot
Saw a TBM in person for the first time at my home airport (KSZP) the other day and the smell of that exhaust was amazing. Landed almost as short as my rental 172 with the reverse thrust from the props. Im guessing it works in the same concept as the turbo prop on the C130 Herc.
Very nice video, keep them coming. Very entertaining and useful to watch. Osama flies very professional and seems like a nice guy to fly.
Great vid,Thanks for that one.Very nice man, pilot in command ,great skill set...l am a fan of flight chops, Rusty pilot,tailwheel..Have a great day....
+Tom Cosentino thanks!
Great video! Turboprop is a beast of plane.
Very professional pilot...Knows IFR and systems well
Love it , love it, love it... Love the plane, love the IFR , love the video ...
.
*That was exciting!* *Looking for part 3 or your test, hopefully you'll record that too... ;-)*
Thanks for another one of these. I still love the TBM, and there was lots of really interesting stuff to learn.
E .g. about the inertial separator, or roll-spoilers on a single turboprop. I only knew those from airliners.
I love tje TBM video. I have'nt flown the TBM yet but that video was a freat demo.
Thanks
As huge fan of the TBM's I've really enjoyed these videos! Thanks for sharing :)
Osama seems like a badass dude. You can tell he likes to have fun, but in a highly admirably responsible way.
OMG the TBM is such a sweet machine! I seriously need to hurry up with my million dollar idea so I'm not stuck renting anymore and can afford to work on my instrument rating!
So cool to see my Univerity from the air. Nice video. Hope Rochester treated you well.
The nose down attitude during approach is impressive! I wonder how hard the transition was from the SR22 to the TBM... #BoseA20
What a dream machine. Great video. - a YTZ controller
Awesome TBM episodes! Also I'm working on my tail wheel endorsement in a J5 and think about your Super Cub videos every time I fly it!
That's awesome! I'm right there with yeah during your tail wheel training - very cool!
Thanks brother Osama for the education also Flight Chops for making these videos possible. keep up the good work
Great Video looks like a really nice aircraft to fly. Pilot seems to be highly professional.
wow what an aircraft!!! amazing stuff, thanks for the upload.
That was another thoroughly enjoyable episode. Thank you Steve and Osama!
Things were happening quickly during takeoff, so it would be interesting to experience the procedures during a busy day at a major field. Probably good that the TBM is designed to minimize cockpit loads.
Very informative chanel. I've only seen two of your videos and really look forward to your others. Happy and safe flying. P.S. excellent job on your camera work.
Awesome ride, with all belts and whistles
Great video Steve and as always keep them coming because I will be watching.
Another awesome video. I am almost done with my IFR and the description of what he did with the AP just reinforced everything I have been learning. Would love to fly up to Canada in the future. Thanks again. #BoseA20
Ditto, I do like these videos... I learned a lot, although I am a big fan of C90's...
North Up on ForeFlight so I can read the VFR charts. For me, having it on heading is only appropriate when it's on satellite view.
He’s the boss! Nice job.
Love the TBM, great video.
Make more videos with Osama, he is full of awesome information.
Awesome! Thank you again. Matthew Noell VP Volta Volare Aero.
Absolutely love your work FlightChops
+Matthew Dilosa Thanks!
Thanks, love the G1000. Keep videos coming.
Been waiting a while for this on! Thanks! Keep it up man! (First)
I really enjoyed that FlightChops, great stuff!!
I'm from Rochester, NY....awesome video...:))
Awesome video man! Keep them coming!!
awesome video! think you could do a video of the ins and outs of clearing customs in a GA aircraft?
this is always a great video. I watch it a number of times!! Thx Steve
awesome thnx
Me, too! I just watched it for the fourth time. Osama is a fabulous teacher. Any news about that longer flight you mentioned, up in the flight levels?
I can see my house LOL Amazing video once again :D!
That my dream plane. Wish my autopilot took the workload away like that. Nice Tug also.
wow what an incredible 2 part vid, really enjoyed it!!!
I absolutely love Osama. Great video. Great teacher.
