I'm trying to decide between these two as we speak for our new build. I couldn't believe I actually found an entire video dedicated to comparing and contrasting these two paint colors. Gotta love the internet. I'm leaning toward Cloud White. Now, tho, I need to compare Cloud White to Sherwin Williams' Pure White. Hope there's a video for that!

Both are great and I agree with your analysis. But if I’m going white, you KNOW I’m picking my favourite! Team Simply all the way!

I used the Sherman Williams equivalent of Cloud White for my mostly north-facing living room and am very happy with it. It's a lovely backdrop for my English country house decor with its many oil paintings and lots of antique Chinese porcelain. The two rooms visible from the living room (dining room and entry room) are both painted in SW Sea Salt, which looks more green in the former and more blue in the latter, and both look beautiful with Cloud White. Different wall tints in adjoining rooms add another layer of interest and beauty when they're compatible.

Try Cotton Balls. I tried many whites, and settled on Cotton Balls -- a clear, bright white but not stark. CB sets off my furnishings and art perfectly. I have a southern exposure.

We painted my Dads oak cabinets BM Simply white in 2018. The trim next to it is SW high reflective white. I don’t find the Simply white overly yellow or ant flashes of green. It looks nice.
Now I do see a neon green when sunny in my New house…painted SW Alabaster. It’s going to drive me nuts when the sun streams. I know I’ll be repainting next year (painters used cheap SW CHB on walls🤦🏼‍♀️) I’d like a softer color than Alabaster in a quiet beige tone.

We used cloud white in our north facing rooms specifically to avoid the “green” appearance cast by northern light when it hits white with just a yellow undertone and also too avoid it being to stark. We are thrilled with the result and would choose it for our purposes in every room where white is called for-except our kitchen caninetry which will be white dove for certain.

So helpful, thank you! May I please ask, If using Cloud White on walls in a few rooms, would be best to use same on trim or does make sense to keep Simply White on trim as it is throughout the rest of the house??

I am painting my open modern farmhouse concept main floor Soft Chamois. It has a large cathedral ceiling - how should I have my bright stark white BM ceiling paint tinted simply white or white cloud or Chantilly white another shade to show contrast but also to keep it soft? Thanks for any suggestions!

I live in an apartment built in 1929 described as Moroccan style. It doesn't get a lot of light. The living room is facing east. I'm leaning toward Simply White because I want to brighten the room but I worry it will look stark. It also has beautiful medium dark hardwood floors. Cloud white sounds like the safer choice but I'm concerned about the gray, brown tint. By the way I have an off white sofa. Suggestions anyone?

    • @rconach

My suggestion is buy either the half pint paint sizes offered (BM and SW do this) or purchase the stick on sample sizes online to test your choices in different light at various times of day. Whatever of these you do, paint or place your sample on white foam board. Don’t place the sample on the existing paint, as it the existing paint color will distort your view.

I have never had white walls but after living in a short term ( 3 years) that had 1970s brown paneling, I wanted light and bright. I tested about 5 different shades of white and chose Simply White. In my foyer, kitchen, dining room, and the living room my walls and trim are all painted simply white. My kitchen cabinets are this too. The walls are in a pearl finish. Trim and cabinets are in a semi-gloss finish. My ceilings are painted Faulkland Blue by Sherwin Williams. I LOVE it!!! It reminds me of vanilla ice cream. Everyone who has seen it has loved it too. I stressed over northern light and eastern light because my kitchen faces north, my living room faces east, and my dining room faces south and west. Simply White looks beautiful in all three rooms. I have never regretted my choice.

I agree simply white is better for trim and millwork . BUT, if cabinetry and trim / millwork / interior doors need to match , then which do you choose in an open concept kitchen/family room? Can you put cloud white on cabinets and simply white on trim/millwork/interior doors ?

  • @esterig.9955

Will cloud white on walls look off if you have it in a bathroom with pure white toilet, sink, counter, tub but terra cotta flooring and one pine wall, maple cupboards (small east window so not bright room)Thoughts on edier white instead by Sherwin.

It was suggested to use the Regal Matte that I was hesitant, but the man who helped me at the paint store said he did his rooms in that finish and the walls are still washable. It is a warm look even in the bathroom where I did classic gray n white cloud ceiling as I did in my bedroom. Bought 3 new bedroom closet doors and painted them black beauty lol and I am very happy the result, they look awesome in all the rooms.
