The video I wish I watched before installing a SHELIX

- This is my second time upgrading a DeWalt DW735 thickness planer with a SHELIX cutterhead, so instead of wondering how to do it, I was more interested in how I could do it better than the last time. There's always room for improvement and usually more than one way to get the job done right, but I think this video is going to make the whole process go a little smoother for anyone doing this upgrade. It might even be fun to watch. Check the comments for updated information because I ran out of room in the video description.

In case you're wondering why I'm asking for additional support, here's what went into making this video:
► The cost of the SHELIX head so I could do an installation video.
► Two months without the use of my planer, workbench, or most of my workshop.
► More than 115 GB of raw 4k and 8k video to make the 30 GB final product, not including at least 200 GB of takes that didn't get used.
► More than 40 hours of editing time.
► Video, photo, and audio editing software subscriptions.
► My desktop computer is getting old, and it took three hours to export the video with the processor running up to 100% and the fan going full speed. I had to export multiple times after reviewing the output and making adjustments.
► Two bags of Juan Valdez coffee beans. But seriously, if you're a coffee fan, check out www.juanvaldezcafestore.com/ (not sponsored, not affiliate, just good coffee).

Video production details:
▻ Video was recorded with a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phone, mostly in 4k 60fps, but some was in 8k 24fps so I could record details from farther away. For the few parts where I filmed both sides simultaneously, I use a GoPro Hero 4 as the secondary camera.
▻ Audio was recorded using a Rode Wireless Go and a Rode lavalier microphone.
▻ I used Cyberlink Director Suite 365 for video, audio, and photo editing, and that's also where I get most of the sound clips and music tracks.
▻ My editing computer is a Dell XPS 8930 with a 6-core i7 8700 processor, 32 Gb or RAM, and a GeoForce GTX 1070 video card, which is surprisingly underpowered for this type of work.
Congratulations on reading all the way to the bottom. Fun fact: One of my other SHELIX-related videos resulted in Byrd Tool Experts (a distributor of Byrd Tool Corp products) contacting me for an interview, which you can see here: • Byrd Tool Experts Inte... Хобби
I hit the space limit in the video description, so here's some post-production and viewer-contributed tips:
✱ You can use a 24mm chrome socket to hammer out the small bearing, and a 35mm chrome socket on the big bearing. There may be some differing opinions about whether it's better to hit the inner or outer race.
✱ If you lose some grease from the gearcase, you can replace it with Shell Alvania EP2 or something compatible. It took two months to get this information from DeWalt, so hopefully it's right. Don't add grease unless you need to; too much is not good.
✱ Metal contracts when it's cold, so if you want the bearings on the new SHELIX to go in easier, you can put it in the freezer overnight.
✱ Some have found that a 23mm sockets fits their planer, and others find it's 24mm. There might be some variation in the nut sizes.
Great video, and I've watched several on this same install!
You should pin this comment so it's the first one everyone sees. And state that it's there somewhere in the video description, if it's not there already...
@@steveh8724 Thank you, and good catch. I thought I had pinned this already, but apparently not.
I just ordered a 735 Planer to replace my 734 mainly because I might want to do this swap in the future and the 735 is more accessible. I’ll save your video for future reference since it is the most comprehensive I have seen. Thank you
An excellent and very thorough video. I must say, you have an amazing sense of humor. Not the stand up comedy kind of humor, but excellent none the less. I subbed a few months back so can't help you there, but I did give you the thumbs down click just to see if you are still paying attention..... sorry, I meant thumbs up. 😏
EP-2 is cheap grease. Never beat on the race that uses the balls to push something out.
Between the alternate angles to show what's happening from different perspectives, pointing out why you're taking certain steps that might seem pointless, and the record levels of dad joke energy, this is honestly the best technical instruction video I've ever seen. I wish I had a video like this for every tool in my shop.
Thanks for the feedback, and I'll take that as a challenge. I'm still wondering how I ended up with 20 thickness planer videos when the router is arguably the most versatile tool in the workshop. In fact, the first video on this channel was about an aftermarket router upgrade.
Agree, except I think it's a tie with the original Turboencabulator video. For those not familiar, that is high praise!
100% agree. This is the definitive guide to the dw735
I couldn't agree more with the above comments!! It was a great and funny video and helped me change my cutting head in short order!! Well done Mr Snekker!!

It's really good in all respects. Lots of tips and tricks. Unique solutions. Unique issues/problems recognized, explained, and solved!
There is no damn good reason why you don’t have 1 million subscribers after a video like this. I have this planar. I’ve no intention of putting Shelix in it but I sat right here and enjoyed one of the most quality how-to videos I’ve ever watched.
Oh boy, that would be a lot of people to disappoint.
I was thinking the same thing. This is similar to TPAI channel.
Awesome! The value of what you've done here can't be overstated.
I don't even have a planer (734) anymore and I watched the whole thing, even with sweetie telling my to get in the shower because she's getting the meal ready. But i learned if i ever get another planer, I will go for the 735X because if I drank as much coffee as the video requires I would sell the planer in pieces and take up the bassoon. Thanks for a fun, and very interesting video.
Best video about installing Shelix on DW735. I followed it step by step and successfully upgraded my DW735!
Happy to hear it!
Ok, I just watched your video for the second time while doing the shelix upgrade. It took about 4.5 hours today since I cleaned the machine real good last night for an hour. I'll hopefully not remember this night but all the smooth wood that will come from this machine. I ran some test pieces though and they look and feel amazing. Thank you for your instruction!
Good to hear. Comments like this make it worthwhile.
I love your sarcasm it takes the boring out this showing. Your thoroughness and the tips you gave are awesome!😊
Thank you for making this upgrade almost painless. I watched three times and then followed your instructions step by step. All went flawlessly. You really need to branch out and provide your brand of instruction for more things! I would pay for that!
My pleasure, thank you for the generous feedback.
100% agree with your opening statement. A wood worker in a hurry is a framer. I am the framer type and I know it so I save all my wood working jobs for a woodworker.
Without a doubt the BEST how to video I have ever seen. Gave me the confidence to tackle this project that I had put off for over two years. I am a low vision woodworker and was nervous about trying it.
THANK YOU
Awesome. Thanks for leaving a comment.
Yours was the best install video I found. I installed a different cutter head, but all the steps were the same. I ran into a problem trying to get the screw out of the chain tension arm. Could not do it. Finally after banging, heating and swearing, I realized that the hexagonal shaft could be unscrewed with a 10 mm wrench, which I finally did. Snap rings came out with some difficulty, but it all went back together and it is humming along. No Craigs List needed!
I'm happy to hear it. Thanks for commenting.
Ben, maybe I don't get out much, but this is the best instructional video I have ever seen. The tip on the tinfoil has helped me control my need to throw sockets across the garage, so thank you very much. I have the same planer and I don't have guts to open it up, but if I ever do, please keep this video up, because I'll be back.
Good to hear, thank you for the feedback.
WOW! I've been putting off buying a Helical cutter head out of fear of screwing up the install. You've given me the courage to continue. Thanks.
You got this!
Ben, your video is awesome! I wish there were more content like yours out there instead to the ad filled nonsense you usually see.
I finished my install and I’m so glad I watched your videos . I first purchased the smaller diameter cutter head and quickly replaced to with the OEM cutter head. Took some time but was super easy with your step by step instructions and the comedy was right up my alley.
Thank you again!
This has to be the best install video I have ever seen. You make it very simple to follow. The video picture quality is also excellent. Now I have to spend $500 on a new part :)
By far, the easiest and most comprehensive installation video I’ve seen. Well done!
(It took me 10:24 to remove the carbide inserts… how embarrassing!)
One of the best How-To videos I have seen. Great editing. I just purchased this planer, after watching you replace your blades with the Shelix I wish I had sprung the $$$ for one already installed.
I can not thank you enough for this video!! I was on the fence about getting the cutter and after watching other videos I decided install would be out of my ability. I came across your production and it was so clear, so detailed, that I knew I could do this. Well, I did and it works amazing. Thank you so much for putting this out there. I am sure it was a ton of work but I for one am so happy you did it. THANK YOU!!!
@atlasliquors4102 That's great to hear, thanks for commenting.
Very good video. Excellent demonstration. Super good dad humor.
Excellent presentation. As an old gear head, it’s all very familiar. But it’s very helpful to know what you can leave on and what needs removal.
I wanted to follow up: I ordered a knock off cutterhead, ran into problems with mine being defective, and had to go through the whole process again with the Byrd Shelix. Finally after weeks, my planer is upgraded. Thanks to this video, I was able to get the Byrd cutterhead installed correctly on the first try. Thanks again for having such an awesome tutorial. This seriously saved my butt
Sounds like an ordeal. I'm happy to hear it worked out in the end.
Glad I watched I ordered without looking and got the smaller one. didn't even open it up sent back and ordered the OEM size one. Will be installing mine this weekend. nice video I am sure I will be coming back for more.
Went well after I got the cutters in place correct. had to remove some and reinstall now it's working great. used your tip for seating the cutters correctly I guess I had a few off as I had ridges in board. Now its all clean :)
Although it did not take 4 hours to do, your advice on patients is by far the best value of your guide then any others! I also appreciated the recommendation to remove the spiral gear before removal. This is by far the best guide for this upgrade and 100% agree with all your arguments favoring the oem size replacement! Great job!
Glad to hear it went smoothly. Thanks for commenting!
Honestly I would have returned my cutter if not for your video. Followed every step and no spare parts. Thicknesser works fantastic with the new cutter. Thanks for a great video.
@@alexclague56 Awesome, I'm glad to hear it was helpful.
WOW BEN, YOU SIR ARE AMAZING!!! Thank you for such an incredible technical video! I watched your sniping video and then this helix install. I am now a PROUD Subscriber with your channel. Thank you also for your humor. After the 3 payments of 19.99 comment I immediately knew this was the channel for me and hit the SUB Button! Thank you again for your skills, humor, knowledge, techniques, and humility! YOU are AMAZING! I am spreading the word among my fellow woodworkers regarding your channel and I am Proud to do so.
Thank you for the generous feedback, and welcome to the channel!
Love the humor man!! Good job on the video. Thanks for making it!
Thank you, it was my pleasure.
"slow is smooth and smooth is fast" - I really appreciate that segment of the video. I don't think I've seen that type of cut scene in your other videos but it's something I'd love to see more of -- taking general-skill advice and applying it to the task at hand. I understand the concept of smooth/fast from my days in software engineering but applying it my woodworking projects isn't easy.
It is indeed a challenge; I make some of my finest mistakes when I'm trying to get something done before the end of the weekend. I picked up the phrase from firearms training. People who pull the trigger too quickly usually jerk the shot towards the firing hand, miss the target, and then need more time to reacquire.
Great detail. And I love the humor!
Terrific, as a mechanical engineer a video that covers the bases. I have a small torque wrench I use for my guns and I think I’ll use that.
What an amazing tutorial! Each step was exact and I’m so glad Snekker posted it. I’ll definitely be watching more. Great job. I love the humor as well
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback.
I have spent a lot of my life on youtube (making and watching), this is one of the most impressive videos ive seen. Well done sir
Thank you. Don't look at the rest of my channel. It just goes downhill from here.
Great video, thank you. "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" and the reference to "framers" reminds of a certain awesome framer out in the Pacific Northwest!
Hilarious! Love your dry sense of humor. Best of all - great video and fantastic instruction! Thanks! I'm getting ready to convert my 735.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with the project!
Nice video. Gave you a thumbs up. Here is a tip that will help guys, and gals, now you know I,m old, some grief. I,m a retired cabinet maker and I have been using those disposal inserts for years. Once an edge has become dull it is very difficult to tell the difference , by eye, esp if older, to tell the difference. Here is what you do. Before you try to rotate that insert hit that dull edge with a sharpie. After all the inserts have been removed take them to your bench grinder and just tap the dull edge. This will be very obvious as to which edge is shot. Dont even try to think you know which edges are good or not otherwise. You have 40 inserts times four equals 160 edges that could become a hot mess!
When you pulled that cutter head it reminded me of pulling a cam shaft on an engine.
You're truly a gifted teacher, highlighted and augmented by your obvious experience, insight, understanding, eloquence, and humor, all key ingredients for a not only educational, but captivating video. Your attention to detail, dissection of a complex procedure into easily digestible bite-size pieces, anticipation of challenges along the way, and conveyance of the entire process in an unambiguous, easy-to-understand manner, has no doubt helped countless woodworkers make this journey effortlessly, with minimal profanity. I just got my OEM version yesterday, and now have the utmost confidence to finally make the pilgrimage myself this weekend. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and passion with us. And the production quality is superb, btw. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the generous compliment.
About to order my new cutter heads and your video was a great help. I normally stay away from videos that are so long but I just couldn’t stop watching. Love your sense of humor!
Thanks, glad I could take some of the pain out of it.
Thank you! I’m sure you may have lost a few viewers who were hoping for a “plug & play” type of installation.
Bought my Shelix and started my tear down. I will keep coming back to this video as I move along as you have done a fantastic job of explaining each and every detail of how to proceed.
Everything that comes out or off gets set aside neatly with the screws that were used for attachment.
Spending this kind of money for an upgrade like this demands the exact type of video you produced!
Thank you again, you have a new subscriber!
Thanks for the feedback; that's just what I was shooting for. Hopefully, your installation is smooth and uneventful!
Thans for the very helpful and informative video. I followed it today to upgrade my DW735 with the Byrd Shelix OEM Cutter Head and finished in less than three hours. I can't believe how much better my DW735 works now. Thank you!
Excellent, glad to hear it worked out.
Very detailed, nice work. Good to know about the various stumbling blocks along the way.
Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you Thank you Thank you. I just installed my new Shelix cutter in my Dewalt Planer. I followed your step by step instructions and it went flawless. You made me a fan. Thanks again.
Good to hear. Thanks for commenting.
Fantastic video! This ranks among the best instructional videos I have ever seen. Everything explained and demonstrated, accompanied by just the right amount of humour to keep it entertaining. I don't know if you're a professional educator, but you excel at it.
Thank you for the feedback. I worked as a trainer many years ago.
Thank you for the education. You are a great instructor; it's educational yet entertaining. Keep up the great work.
Thank you
Thank you so much! I very much appreciate this well made tutorial AND your brand of humor :)
Fantastic tutorial. It's great to see this done in the different perspective views. All to often in these types of videos, you only get one view and it may not be all you need to see how all of the steps come together. A big shout out to you for showing mistakes and how you overcame them. Who would have thought that the part could be defective right out of the box or to call the manufacturer? Those are the lessons best seen to believe. Thank you for your time and effort you put into making this video. Well done...👍
Thank you. It's good to hear someone appreciated the transparency.
Fantastic tutorial. I don't even have a planer yet but wanted to know all my options in advance. I enjoyed watching this just because. Great job. And thank you!
My pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for this video. I just installed my cutter head and I don’t think I could’ve done it right without your clear and concise instructions. You’re the best! Thanks again.
Good to hear; thanks for commenting.
this is the video I wish I had watched. I needed to change out my jobsite planer, and well I pretty much did everything wrong and lost a part and created a headache that will be with me for a week waiting on a part…because your right about the skill set…I can do all household type work, but this is more like working on your car…and I always go to a mechanic
Brilliant approach; fantastically detailed tutorial. Thank you! Subscribed.
@@michael.schuler Thank you for the feedback and the subscription.
By far the best instructional video I've ever watched. I'm absolutely subscribing and following everything you have on your channel now. THANK YOU
If only I had the time to produce consistently at this level. I'll try not to disappoint.
Absolutely love the amount of detail in doing the job. I will refer to this video when I get my Shelix.
Fantastic tutorial, thank you.
Just followed this guide to upgrade mine yesterday. I dunno if this has been mentioned by anyone else in the comments, but when it came to pulling out the gearbox on the left side, mine would not budge until I change the speed switch from 1 to 2. Then it came out quite easily. Thank you for this excellent tutorial!
Ok,ok,ok...I am getting the shelix cutter head and found this video. I actually found the one-liners to be extremely helpful. So I subbed. There. I did it.
I love it a Framer!😂🛫
This video is SO MUCH BETTER than the ones on MYWOODCUTTERS site. One of their videos tells you the wrong order for the pulley and the washer. They are really helpful, don’t get me wrong, but this video is much more clear. Now, I have to make another attempt to get the belt back on the pulley. It seems so far away from being able to catch. I also have to redo the order of the washer and the pulley. Thanks MYWOODCUTTER! Now I’m seriously wondering what is the correct order for that washer; before the pulley or inside of it???
I am so thankful for this video! I’m at the halfway point now, disassembly, finished and ready to go back together. I used a 1 inch socket and a short half-inch drive extender on that bearing. I too had to use the big convincer hammer. But it came out clean, undamaged.
Excellent video and I have watched multiple videos on this subject before starting. I have to say though, having spent 42 years in nuclear power, you strike me as an ex-Navy nuke or a commercial nuke with the way you set your parts, the tin foil, etc. I am now confident that I can do this correctly the first time with your video (assuming that I have good cutter heads). Thanks so much for posting it.
My pleasure, I'm glad it was helpful. Good luck with the project.
Dear Mr. Snekker, my install went like "butter." For my cutterhead I chose the LuxCut lll. Everything fit perfectly! Your step-by-step instructions were dead on! Thanks for putting this together for us "woodworkers!"
Excellent, glad to hear it worked out.
Are you tripping breakers often with the upgrade?
I have watched many of your videos. I think they are informative, funny and enjoyable to watch! Keep up the good work!!!
I'm glad I get it right once in a while. Thanks for the feedback!
I recently needed to swap out my blade drum on my DW735. I did not upgrade to the Shelix cutterhead but just replaced with a new part. I watched a bunch of youtubes on how to do this. I found this video the clearest and most comprehensive to follow as I made the repair. Bravo, thank you! I also found it useful to just be prepared to spend time on this. Although I planned well, there was always something - like having the right sized wrench etc. - that I needed to run to the hardware store for. So, expecting it was going to take time, meant I was not frustrated at the end of the day - but delighted! Nice work, thanks.
Very good video, exept for beating on ball bearings. I was a machinist for 49 years. With the right temperatures and exspansion these should go together by hand. Never beat on the shaft to drive the opposite bearing in; you are beating on the balls. Find a socket that will fit the inside diameter (ID) of the bearing. This is the inner race. Putting presure on this does not put pressure on the balls. For outside race (OD) use a larger socket to get bearing off OD fit. If you heat the aluminuim housing up with a hair dryer or heat gun the OD of the bearing will fall in much easier when reassembling. They make induction bearing heaters that heat up bearings to get them on shafts by hand. They make seal drivers that you can use on a flat bearing with no shafts sticking out. If you have to cool the bearings to shrink them use saran wrap to protect bearing seals from letting water in; then freeze them in ICE. It would not hurt to put the complete shaft & bearing & carbide in the freezer.
My Daughter Patti loves watching GL Ship .I take her to Port Huron in the summer ❤
I finally took the hit and ordered a new head. I went with a different option but was thankful to have your video to help supplement a few others I've seen.
Taking the drive off before pounding on the head was A smart move. 👍
Thank You!!! Followed your instructions except for getting the belt back on. I'm thinking that the issue was that this was a brand new machine that the belt had not stretched out enough for me to work it back on. so I used another youtube video using a hand squeeze clamp and got that to work. All other steps were clear and perfect. The pixilated joke made me fall off my chair! I appreciate your time and effort in producing this video!!!
Good to hear it worked out. Thanks for commenting.
Very detailed video on the install and the planer, this is the third one of yours I’ve watched, and I don’t even own one of these yet! So, thanks advance :-)
Excellent, thanks for watching.
Man, I wish you were in Ga cause I know we’d be friends. Great video and the part about 2 payments had me in stitches!!! Great work and great detailed video.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
i pulled the bearing and it went in nicely. I'm glad you mentioned it
Excellant Video! Great Job, very detailed, informative, funny and entertaining. Keep it up!
Best tutorial video ever! Loved it! Planning to install my new Shelix head next weekend. I really appreciate the work you put into this. Thanks!!!
Thank you, and good luck with the upgrade.
Excellent video…and entertaining. After watching it, I am not sure that I would attempt this installation myself. I think I would have cried if I had gotten your first result.
Who says I didn't?
Only watched the first 20 mins. Jeez! Dude! This is freaking serious. Well done. Thanks for super well presented how to info. Much appreciated.
This was perfect that you got the bad inserts - great example of the process of quality control checking.
Followed along and successfully installed a FOXBC helical head in my 735. The instructions the cutter came with were ok, but far from great and lacked a lot of details. This filled in all the blanks and then some. Thank you!
Excellent video. Appreciate all the time and effort. Also you have a cool radio voice. Thanks!
Stopped vid about 2/3 of the way through and ordered the SHELIX cutterhead from Byrd Tool. Their website states they have up to a 5 month backlog, which is ok with me. I haven't used my planer in years, but as I get closer to graduation into retirement, I want to be ready. I'm sure I'll have another view when I actually install the SHELIX. Thank you for such a detailed vid.
Smart move, and congratulations on the pending retirement. It seems like there's always more projects than time.
Excellent! Now I understand why the price is so high for the already installed one. Thanks!
I imagine that the $5 set of snap ring pliers they sell at Harbor Freight would be enough for this small job.
If I were trying to use the 15/16" socket I would REALLY like it to be a six-point socket. But the foil trick is good.
One thing I've never been able to make sense of. . . It seems to me that the curved cutting edge of the inserts should be different based on the diameter of the circle that the spinning cutters make. BUT, this was all about two DIFFERENT diameters, the undersized and the OEM size. I wonder if the angle at which they are mounted is different on the two.
Anyway, thanks a heap, this was very informative. I appreciate the care you took showing every detail. Well done!
Thank you for taking the time to do this. It was extremely informative.
I just completed mine.
Congratulations on the successful outcome.
Best tutorial ever! Thank you for all of your time and effort creating this video.
My pleasure
The shelix was delivered at 08:30 this morning. My neighbor who is a machinist came over at 2:30 and we had it installed by 4:00. The only thing that delayed us, he brought the wrong bearing puller. He was the brains, I was the “go-fer”. We should have it done in an hour except for the wrong bering puller.
We generally followed your video, which is great. We didn’t need to go the the kitchen for foil or plastic wrap. We found that pulling the gear box was easier. The other problem was the key for the large bearing in the shelix was to big. He machined it down to fit. I had reservations on installing the shelix, and my buddy said “come on.” After watching your video, I would have no problem doing a shelix install again.
Excellent, I'm happy to hear that the installation went well.
Great video, have been thinking about getting one
Ben - Thank you! I watched your video several times. I bought my planer and waited for my Shelix OEM head to arrive. Your video made my installation go perfectly. It took me 2 evenings to complete but did every step the way you explained. 2 things I did in 2 spots that helped. 1) I used a small piece of paracord to lift and guide the Shelix small end into the bearing. 2) when I was reinstalling the belt, I fed a thin cut level 1 glove into the belt to help me get it across the pulley. Very grateful for you using a 15/16 socket with foil. I had that socket. Thank you again. Brian
I'm happy to hear everything worked out. Thanks for the detailed feedback.
Thanks for making the videos regarding the DeWalt 734/Shelix install. This will be a big help to me when I get ready to tackle my own retrofit. I enjoyed the humor as well.
Very generous, thank you for supporting.
Awesome video, thank you. I just completed my upgrade today and everything went well. Here are a few lessons I learned...
1. Removing and installing the internal snaps rings was the most difficult part.
2. Using a 24mm impact socket worked really well for tapping out the OEM cutter head.
3. Regardless of how much I like the tinfoil tip, a 23mm socket really works best.
Thanks again, I watched you video twice and I felt like I had done the job before.
Excellent, thanks for commenting.
Mine was 24mm!
Exceptional video. I have the Dewalt 735 and am going to install the large SHELIX with my grandsons (summer 24), with your video. This will be very fun project for myself and I am sure with my grandsons. It is fun to do complex things and do them successfully - this video will assure my success. I am a rank amateur so I very much appreciate the detail, explanations and thoroughness in the video. A tremendous way to learn. I tend to try to do things fast and then screw it up - so your advice is well received.
I forgot to thank you for the great humor.
Thank you for the feedback. Sounds like a fun family project.
Great video! Very detailed,,very sharp images, and some fun jokes. Outstanding!😃

Just completed the install and thanks to your video I am off to the races. I installed the Elephas unit. Thanks again.
Good to hear that everything worked out.
Considering this cutter head is over $400, that puts this combo over $1000. And I think this opens up a lot of other options from other manufacturers. Like the 13" from Jet which comes a helical cutter from the factory. I own neither and cannot speak to the pros and cons of each tool. However, if you already have the Dewalt this is without a doubt, the best video I've seen showing the upgrade.
Thank you - new cutter head went in flawlessly!!

Informative, well presented, and the funny was a bonus. Thanks.
If you've ever had to change a camshaft in-frame on a Chevy small block, this is a walk in the park. Awesome video, excellent quality. The Japanese porn joke got my sub.
Bravo, very well executed.
Great video of a great job. Patience is the key, as much as tidiness. You have both combined with clever job organization. Thanks for teaching with humour.
I'm glad I found the right balance. Thanks for commenting.
Great video - thank you for this considerable effort🎉
I may have to buyer a planer just to re watch this.....Thanks.
T his is the best instructional video i have ever seen. I retired three weeks ago and treated myself to a Dewalt 735X planer. Now i want the upgrade head. Thanks for that! LOL. Anyway , thanks for all your work on this video. By the way. Try Kona Blend coffee! If you drink anywhere near the coffee I do you'll love it.
Congratulations on the retirement, and thanks for commenting. It's been a while since I drank Kona, might need to pick up some more.
I just purchased my Shelix cutter head and can’t that you enough for the installation video. It gives me a great idea of what to expect when in arrives. Huge thumbs up!!
I'm glad it was helpful. Good luck with the installation!
