I’ve been using 0.05% tretinoin for years. From the very first night I put it all over my face including around my eyes and never had any issue. I don’t know if it’s fair to say that no topical products can affect facial fat. For example, the active chemical in Latisse has been proven to cause orbital fat loss and it’s a commonly recorded side effect. That’s technically a topical product, correct?
With topical retinol, I 100% have a reaction similar to a panic attack. Heart palpitations, difficulty breathing, blurry vision. I’ve used it a few times and it gives me this toxic feeling every time.
Using tret has honestly been a breeze for me. I use .05% on my face, neck and eye area every other night with no problems. No purging, no retinoid uglies, nothing.
Retinol 8 uses retinyl retinoate, which is a complex of retinol (inactive, which needs to be converted) and retinoic acid (active form). Theoretically, it should be more effective than retinol but the studies are limited. It won't be more effective than tretinoin though. At best, it can be just as effective as tretinoin but tretinoin has more data + withstood the test of time. Also, "8 times more effective" depends on which retinol formula they're comparing it to. In summary, I think it's good but it's no miracle compared to regular retinol!
I have tried retinol and retinal, but I can´t really compare them with tretinoin when it comes to results… I have sensitive skin, and use cream formula with 0.025% strength

Me too. Almost a year! But the difference is truly amazing. I am in my early 50s with oily, sensitive, fair, acne-prone skin. I just had a facial (first in two years, thanks to the pandemic, and the first since I started using tretinoin about two years ago) and my aesthetician was amazed.

@@dietcoke00000000 I have wondered this too! A lot of products are marked as toxic on EWG because they contain retinol and I don't really understand why when it's such a popular ingredient.
For my eyes, I use retinol all over my face, and then wait 30 seconds for it to sink in before my moisturizer. I figure not washing my hands after using retinol, I probably have a little bit on my hands that will go on my eye lids when I moisturize. Thoughts?
ok wait the doctor said topical treatments cant affect deep layer tissue and that as a general statement isnt true bc the active ingredient in like lash growth serums actually as a side effect do kill the fat pads in the eye orbital and its permaneant too
It's possible that latisse and other prostaglandin containing eye serums may effect the underlying fat because the eyelid is a unique area of the skin compared to the rest of the face. The eyelid skin has a much thinner epidermis and dermis, which could make penetration to the subcutaneous fat and muscle more likely! Hope that helps

I'm 28 years old and I would love to incorporate retinol so I can slow down the effects of aging and help with skin firmness, plumpness, texture, etc. as I go into my 30s and beyond, but I'm scared I'm gonna mess up my skin (from irritation or the "retinol uglies") because right now I've perfected my skincare routine to the point where my skin looks the best it's ever been. Should I still incorporate it or do I wait until I absolutely need to?
I'm 27 years old and I just started using Tazarotene (0.045%) in October. I watched my fav YT dermatologists recommendations and followed their advice (using only a pea-sized amount, frequency every other day, using the sandwiching technique, applying on a dry face, etc.) and so far it's been great! My skin looks smoother and more even. I didn't even get the retinoid uglies! I experienced a tiny bit of irritation and flaking around my mouth but it was hardly noticeable. I just keep moisturizer on standby so I can apply it midday. I was also scared to start it because I didn't want to go through the retinoid uglies when I already had a good skincare routine figured out. But I took the plunge and just went for it. I SAY DO IT! :)
"cells that would've taken longer to mature.. happen quicker;... as we get older it takes longer for our skincells to mature.." what does he mean by mature? usually skin concepts I get really quickly but this one isn't sinking in. this part made me slow down to 1.5x lol
Mature means to create a “new” skin cells. Retinol helps with skin cell turnover to happen quicker, because as we age the process of skin cell turnover slow down.

At best, it can be just as effective as tretinoin but tretinoin has more data + withstood the test of time. Also, "8 times more effective" depends on which retinol formula they're comparing it to. In summary, I think it's good but it's no miracle compared to regular retinol!
I saw doctor Shah and here we Go 😃👍🏻
Here we go!!
We want more such videos… it’s such a good content 👏🏻
Ahhhh. My favorite duo I needed to happen
I use retinoids on my eye area and neck perfectly fine 👍🏻👍🏻
If retinol would dissolve fat…… i would put it on my whole body🤣🤣🤣
Well hello Dr Shah! Fancy seeing you here ☺️
Hi 👋!
Can we use tretinoin if we have thyroid nodules? And can we use it before and after microneedle.. Can it cause cancer in long term.
Can people with rosacea use retinoids?
Probably something to discussion with ur dermatologist.
not an easy cut and dry answer, I would think.
I've heard that you can, but very cautiously. But like you say, talk with your dermatologist first.
I had to watch this. To think my Retinol serum from the inkey list could cause me depression is wild . 😩
Is tretinoin safe while breastfeeding
Can I use retinol everyday?
I have tried retinol and retinal, but I can´t really compare them with tretinoin when it comes to results… I have sensitive skin, and use cream formula with 0.025% strength
What % of retinol should i start with?
Love both of you ❤❤
I’m gonna need this source for the sun sensitivity point you cite.
with the application of retinol my skin look darker why is it so should i stop using it.
Lol my tret flaking and dryness lasted almost a full 6 months (starting 1-2 xs a week), this was 3 years ago. I had to s l o w l y build up to using it 3-4 xs/week. Now I only flake if I introduce other actives during vit a off days. A sloww and careful process! 🐌
My dryness/flaking lasted 7 months full, I almost gave up! Now I can use it 3-4 days straight, then I have to take 1 day off or else I get irritation.
How are the results please?
@@m.younis9849 so far so good. Just starting to introduce niacinamide with my tretinoin and other gentle actives on off days. Starting very slow and keeping a journal on my routine/results. Hope this helps 🥰

Thnaks for sharing..
And "what" are the results please?
Me too. Almost a year! But the difference is truly amazing. I am in my early 50s with oily, sensitive, fair, acne-prone skin. I just had a facial (first in two years, thanks to the pandemic, and the first since I started using tretinoin about two years ago) and my aesthetician was amazed.
What about retinol causing reproductive toxicity (this is mentioned on EWG)? Should it be a concern with a topical product?
That's why you can't use retinoids while pregnant.
@@cassthompson3386 Yes, I know, but in case of pregnancy the concern is about the baby, not the mother's reproductive organs. However according to some articles it can have an impact on the female reproductive system, without having a baby.
@@dietcoke00000000 I have wondered this too! A lot of products are marked as toxic on EWG because they contain retinol and I don't really understand why when it's such a popular ingredient.
When is your next sale?! Seems every time I need to restock, I do it right before a sale every time, and I don't wanna miss out this time!
I need an answer to this too!
So interesting about retinol and sensitivity during the day!
Woohoo! So early! So ready!
Have you looked AMIR karams trifector? The plastic surgeon? Looks amazing.
Omg I just commented this and then saw your comment! I had the same thought
Should i start using a lower % retinol when i wanna start incorporating it first time in my skin care routine?
I purchased from " AlphaH", retinode use 3 times a week. The first week fine the 2nd week I did it twice cause I forgot. I PUT IT ON LAST night 🌙 late today I've got 2 big spots ,swollen big ,that hurt so much!
I got it on qvc Italy shall I ask for my money back but what do I use is bakuchiol good? Thanks ☺️
Hm......is Dr Maxfield ok with this??🤨🤨🤨🤨
I'm 28 years old and I would love to incorporate retinol so I can slow down the effects of aging and help with skin firmness, plumpness, texture, etc. as I go into my 30s and beyond, but I'm scared I'm gonna mess up my skin (from irritation or the "retinol uglies") because right now I've perfected my skincare routine to the point where my skin looks the best it's ever been.
Can i use granactive retinol emulsión 2%,the Ordynary in daytime? Is it new generation, in the afordible ones, will It deactivare?🌻✨✨✨
Retinol gave me a headache 😫 and burning
OMG, my eyelids are so sensitive as well! What did you find that works for you Dr Shah?
One night when I was so tired I was in “autopilot” mode as I was doing my skincare, I accidentally put a bha exfoliant and then put my 0.05% tretinoin at the end. I was fine the next day and still did it a few times after that to see if I got any kind of reaction, and my skin was fine lol. But I definitely DO NOT recommend it for anyone who doesn’t have the toughest skin lol
