Hope you guys enjoy the video! For anyone who runs into problems using the Duplicate & Transform function (common for Mac and Linux users), I show how to fix it in this video: ruclips.net/video/3pw7q-3QURI/видео.html
Incredible! I thought I was an experienced Inkscape user. But today I learned so many new things, I'm actually a little excited with joy. Thanks so much. This channel is a great treasure trove! 😍🤩
@SweaterCatDesigns. Great video, but I ran into a problem. Having copied your instructions I saved the result as A ) an svg and B) a png. A) I wanted to use the svg file on a website but when viewed in a browser, it showed the two cloned pieces of text as two seperate pieces side by side in their respective colours. Any idea what I did wrong please? B) I viewed the png file in Gimp and the result was that the text looked out of focus with fuzzy edges when zoomed in. Agan, i blame me for the poor result. Any idea as to how I can improve on the results please? Thank You
This is a great straight forward tutorial for editing text that is super useful! Thank you for sharing this with us! Inkscape 1.3 is full of neat features like this that make it an amazing tool to work with.
Switch from Adobe over to Inkscape since i'm not a maintime Designer anymore. Just started some days ago, and watched a lot of your videos. Was a great help for my ideas, that i didnt know how to realize in the new program. Thanks a lot keep up the good work.
That happens to me once in a while. Might be a bug in the Path Effects dialog. What I do is I create a random shape and show the path effects for it, then delete the shape, and when I select the clone again, the path effects show up.
Excellent! Gonna have to look at creating a library of these fun text options. many years ago I used to play with making fun text like this, kind of like kids cereal box type styles. But I never had the ability to live edit. Might have to do a library of variations of these to have on hand. There's more you can do here which is one of the most fun things about it. LOTS of options.
Fascinating - again. Thanks. On a similar issue, do you know an easy way to add a rectangular background to editable text that extends as more text is added? This would be handy for placing dimensions over lines with arrows on each end in house plans etc. I seems to recall finding a way once, but it was imperfect, adding varying amounts to each end of the rectangle. UPDATE: I found a way! I used a filter with a couple of offsets to add space top, bottom and sides, and changed background to white. I can end a file if you like (I'd need an email address to send to).
Filters/Fill and transparency/Fill background, then add two offset filters (one for left, top and another for right and bottom margins), move these to the top of the filter tree. Change background to white. So a bit fiddly, but I saved (off page) this in a default template so it is always available.@@SweaterCatDesigns
You actually never want to use Offset in the path effects, because it's buggy when increasing the "stroke width". Instead of this, I recommend to clone the text object, remove the "style" attribute, and apply a regular stroke, by double clicking on any color holding the shift key. You can than choose rounded or miter joints, etc. The fill color for that cloned object isn't necessary. The "Offset" filter blends the outlines when making the outlines big. Use regular "Stroke" instead.
Hope you guys enjoy the video!

Thank you so much for demonstrating and troubleshooting how to create editable text in Inkscape. I've learned this new skill from you.
Thanks a lot! I've learned a number of things from watching your videos too. Keep up the good work!

My clone does not show any path effect on the option list. What is wrong?

@@SweaterCatDesigns It works with your instructions. Thanks!
Incredible instructional video covering a much needed area. Thank you.
This feature is stupendous. Great explanation.

very cool!
What an incredible video- thank you!
Ctrl+alt+d f or duplicate and transformation not working on windows 11 any solution to this.
Hmmm, my version of inkscape must have a bug because as soon as I add the path effect to the clone, it completely disappears.
OK, I grabbed the very latest version of inkscape and that fixed it. Hopefully someone will find this useful.
Excellent! Thank you so much for the video 💯
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing.

Cool!
Wow amazing tutorial, but the fonts in thumbnail is different than one created at last in videos.
Thanks!
For the thumbnail, I used Forte Regular.
The time has come
Funky text effects
