missing marching season. i got to see yall preform 3 times! in fact, at region our directors made us stay an extra hour just to watch yall! yall are amazing! congrats on all your wins this season!
Hey Avery! I play tuba at the high school I go to and I’ve been learning to play horn. I just gotta say you have the tone of a drum corps marcher. Especially at that part where most of the band is doing the double tonging I’ve never seen anything like that in a high school band before. I hope you continue to do band through out your life because Hebron has really set a good foundation for your musical career (I’m quite envious as I’m in a pretty small program). Just thought I’d say that! Stay awesome 😁
damn yall's part is so cool, grinding for all state this year to show to my directors that I'm good enough lol. hoping for something cool like this in our band next year :)
You got this man!! I think what helps me grow the most is growing to enjoy what I’m doing the most I possibly can, not to please other people. That’s what has made band so much more fun for me this year - not tying any expectations to my playing and just doing it for me. :) you can do it if you got the right mindset!!!
I play mello at Lone Star (5A area B Champions 💪) and we all love Hebron and I love your mello part I wish my section was good enough to play this stuff. Just wow. Major props to all of y’all ❤ Question: How fun are absolutely ripping out those high C’s like it’s nothing? Seems like it would be really fun lol
Thank you first off, and congratulations on being area champs!!! That’s so fun. To answer your question, it’s usually just a reminder of how exhausted I am in the moment, but when I watch film back I’m like ouuu this sounds cool! It’s tiring but fun to play high. Love tuning the high C in front of the whole band😬
Man I wish I was in this band soo bad. I'm in a 1A band that consists of students who don't care about band😅My dream is to play in a big band guess ill go for DCI
I am currently an alto sax player, but I want to learn how to play mello, do you have any advise besides the obvious(the obvious being practice a ton and use plenty of air)
Support your air from below ur lower abs and use as little pressure as possible while still making a good sound! Utilize your air over your face as much and practice slowly! Pay attention to the little things. Fundamentals matter! I hope you like mello!
Hello! Multi instrumentalist 9th grader here! I main all saxes, but my band director had me march baritone this year, and I am most likely going to be put on mello next year because all three of our mellos are seniors, and the section might go extinct....any tips? Also, I think this run was great!!
First off, jealous that you’re so talented! Congrats on marching bari too! I wrote a bit about mello tips in the comments, but just remember to support your air from below your abs and rely on your air rather than the pressure you put on your face. Don’t be afraid to play loud! Just blow steady air and have confidence in your sound!
@@averyjoelle Thank you so much! Also I meant baritone horn lol… I hated that thing, holding it at attention and standby are just too much for it’s weight, I wish I had marched bari this year! I can’t wait for next year, thank you so much, I will be subbing 😃
@@averyjoelle I definitely want to be in the spirit of Troy for usc one day! I definitely want to join dci but I’ve looked at the schedule for different corps and I’ve seen it somewhat interferes with my band camp and practice schedules
If I’m being totally honest there’s no way all 10 of our mello 1’s could hit a high C last year consistently, but this year, all of us could. I think last year’s music really shaped us up for this year. Obviously this year’s music helped build a ton of stamina as well. When our directors put something difficult in front of us, they already hold the expectation that we can do it and they expect us to find a way to learn it. If it’s genuinely too much for us, they will cut some ppl or change the part. I think the answer to your question is just that we play up there a lot. We do an articulation exercise that ascends chromatically and ends with double tonguing a high C, so I imagine that helps😅we also isolate that interval sometimes so it’s really exposed.
Using more air and not using pressure as your main source of support is really important too. Too much pressure and too little air will totally restrict your range. It’s kinda just about where you support from as well.
I asked and the answer is indefinite😔they haven’t sent all the vids to their section leader yet and the one run they recorded was the run that was iffy for me too. It was mediocre for everyone but especially the trumpets (in their words)☹️
We use Verus M1H mouthpieces on Yamaha mellos! The lead pipes on the model we have are modified to fit a mouthpiece a little closer to a horn mouthpiece.
@@averyjoelle Yamaha mellos are so nice. I got to use one this year because I had a mello solo. We usually use JP mellos, but the Yamaha is so much nicer and I don’t want to go back.
