I was 13 years old in 1983 stuck in a hotel with my twin brother and little sister while my father and his new wife went out to shop while we were on vacation with them. I was truly miserable as I never really connected with my father. My step mother wanted absolutely nothing to do with my siblings or myself. Bored, I turned on the TV in the hotel room and switched the dial to MTV. I listened to the standard music video rotations of the day and then this song and clip appear on the screen. Watching U2 for first time was a transcendent experience that I still cannot adequately describe to this day. Here was someone in Bono both masculine and artistic who also appeared to have a strong mystic charisma .I definitely felt different watching this video but was unable explain why with my 13 year old intelIect , I just knew something was fundamentally singular with this band. A month later I bought the WAR album and in particular listened to 40 , the song based on psalm 40 over and over again. Listening to that song and the rest of the album was a religious experience for me.. Flash forward 40 years and I am now a Priest. I know God had a hand in allowing me to see U2 for first time at age 13 as a scared and unhappy child. Bono and the lads are far from perfect but the Spirit helped to use their music to speak to me and feed me when it counted the most....
Its magic, his voice, the guitars, the lyrics, let go back in time, but not be miserable, well maybe just a little miserable. Thank God for being stuck in the Hotel.
Definitely a timeless classic. U2 is known to be a secretive Christian band, so I'm thinking that may be what you felt when you first ran into this song. For me, I think about the time I was a student at a large university, and was involved with one of its fraternities. I miss those days, and I also wish I could have done better with the support team I had then. So in this song, perhaps God is revealing Himself to me, mandating that I secure my family and take great care of those who support me today. Not only that, but to also reach out and help others when I can. I apologize of the late response, but I wanted to take the time and think things out before giving a tribute to this magnificent song.
One of my faves too!!!, along with "Like A Song...", "Surrender", "Drowning Man" & "Seconds". And of course with the "New Year's Day", "Sunday Bloody Sunday" & "40", but these three are live classics and the most famous songs of this brilliant album.
Man these guys were tight. I forgot how great the Edge is on guitar. His guitar work is like a tidal wave of drawn out notes and fragmented speed chords. One of Adam Clayton's best bass lines as well.

The reception was fantastic and they began to remaster their first videoclips. The only footages of the color version of Pride are from an interview that the band had in Japan and a promo for "The Unforgetable Fire" (both are in RUclips). However, the videoclip is not complete. I Hope we will finally have the opportunity to watch that rare version (complete and in HD).

Those four guys along with Eno, Lanois, Lillywhite and Flood all have a great sense of melody, space, rhythm and groove. They can be raucous and they can be sleepy, hypnotic and chill. It seems like a simple recipe for those who play rock 'n roll but so few acts other than the greats are actually able to conjure up and display those awesome qualities in their music like these four guys on so many albums and on so many tours.

Their best song IMO is Wire and the intro in that song is the best - intense, insane - straight to the brain and very melodic, it drives the whole song and takes you on a journey. Then there is ISHFWILF - simple and iconic and beautiful, Unforgettable Fire...sheer beauty, the heart beat of Beautiful Day, the majesty of Crumbs From Your Table, the exciting electricity in Electric Co., the melancholy of An Cat Dubh, the intense riff of Rejoice, Larry's awesome drumming intro on I Threw a Brick Through a Window, the iconic intro of Pride, and of course the playful pulse of Where the Streets Have No Name. There are so many...Even the end to Stay (Far Away So Close) is incredible...I almost forgot Heartland and All I Want is You, Seconds, New Year's Day, Drowning Man, 40, Promenade, Bad, Three Sunrises, Love Comes Tumbling, With or Without You...These aren't simple songs they are very creative musical experiences.

I remember way back a school friend of mine's older brother was a major U2 fan. I wanted to start getting into them so I asked his brother while he was eating and said "which album should I start with?" without missing a beat he speaks out of the side of his mouth and says "War album" and goes back to eating. My musical journey started there with U2, so lord knows how many times I have played this song lol.
Quite possibly, my favorite song by them. And that's saying a HELL of A LOT. So many others are right next to it. But, at age 9, in 1983, this hit me powerfully. Same with "New Year's Day", "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"...heck, the whole freakin' WAR album. That, "I Will Follow", and OCTOBER were my introductions to the band. I think I started the journey right.
Since I was 15 years old, U2 songs have been one of the soundtracks of my life! 🎶✨ And guess what? My appreciation for them has never wavered! They really are the one of the best! 🙌🎉

I remember way back a school friend of mine's older brother was a major U2 fan. I wanted to start getting into them so I asked his brother while he was eating and said "which album should I start with?" without missing a beat he speaks out of the side of his mouth and says "War album" and goes back to eating. My musical journey started there with U2, so lord knows how many times I have played this song lol.

Quite possibly, my favorite song by them. And that's saying a HELL of A LOT. So many others are right next to it. But, at age 9, in 1983, this hit me powerfully. Same with "New Year's Day", "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"...heck, the whole freakin' WAR album. That, "I Will Follow", and OCTOBER were my introductions to the band. I think I started the journey right.
