  • A full, uncut full flight video with Belavia from Minsk (MSQ) to Geneva (GVA) onboard the last ever Tupolev 154 flight into Europe.
    On 29 May 2015, Belavia operated the last ever Tu-154 flight into Europe onboard aircraft EW-85748. I was lucky enough to secure a seat on the flight, which is normally operated by CRJ.
    Key parts:
    00:00:11 Boarding
    00:12:40 Engine start
    00:21:45 Takeoff
    02:26:00 Top of descent
    02:55:15 Approaching Geneva
    03:00:05 Landing in GVA
    03:12:00 Deboarding
    The video begins in the terminal at Minsk, prior to boarding, before we get a bus out to the aircraft sitting on a remote stand. The engines start soon after boarding, and we are on our way for the 2.5 hour flight to Geneva.
    We turn left after takeoff, getting a great view of the city of Minsk, before heading towards Warsaw, Prague, Stuttgart, Zurich and finally for a beautiful scenic approach along Lake Geneva and landing with full reverse thrust deployed. ATC is included for approach and landing in Geneva.
    Video taken from seat 23F.

      +И Жирков согласен - чистый драйв. Сразу видно что РЕАЛЬНО обороты набирает а не как у Б737 ))) Тоже кстати белками летал крайний раз - в РФ тут их уже не найдешь) Раритет. p.S. Smart move - all wing mechanization seen )

    Greetings from the US. The take-off and landing sounded great, no rattles unlike most Airbus videos on you-tube. Surprised to see any old Soviet made aircraft flying into Europe in 2015.

      avioncamper Hey! This was my first (and probably last) Tu-154 flight. The aircraft felt very sturdy and was in incredible condition. Such a smooth and pleasant flight, a shame that I've only flown on this gem so late in its career!

    I honestly had nightmares starring the TU-154 after flying it several times in 90s Aeroflot.. my scariest experiences flying, ever! It's good to read you found this specific one in good shape - it's really unique, in all possible ways (the sound alone is so different!). What an experience - soon these will all be part of herstory!

    • @noelphilips
      @noelphilips  6 лет назад +1

      Wow that's insane but also pretty cool! I wished I'd have got on more Tu154s they are incredible. And a shame these are all but consigned to the history books now :(

    • @glorific
      @glorific 6 лет назад

      Yeah I feel I took a ride on a piece of herstory... but I can't say I will ever miss this plane - I have never had a similar experience on other models and I still shiver when I hear its engines... (but am still obsessively listening to them! :)
      PS your channel is AMAZING and I view your videos religiously - and have them all in the background in the office - it keeps me calm and focused when working :)
      Thanks for taking the time and effort into creating this truly wonderful channel, it's heaven for us plane lovers!

      O. Em. G. That is insane! I didn't even realise they were still in service! Wow, that is one video I'll be looking forward to watching :) So many questions about it. I guess the Tu-154 is good practice you could get before stepping in yet another time machine :)

      Aeroflot was in bad shape in the 90's, like the rest of Russia. Even their A310 was scary to fly on back then, because you knew they barely had any money to keep it in working order. The TU-154 itself is not a dangerous plane, but it had the unfortunate fate of being left in the hands of airlines that didn't have the money or interest to take good care of them.

    I was lucky enough to have flown on one of these airplanes in the early 2000's. Looks and feels like an oversized Boeing 727, but much older. Great sounding engines though. I sat in the emergency exit row and there was an air escaping sound from the exit perimeter the entire flight from Moscow to Ufa, Russia, but everything worked out well. Great airplane.

      +Bogdon Denifre It's an incredible aircraft. I really wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. So smooth, so clean and in fantastic condition inside and out. I was expecting it to be in the same condition of the old Biman DC10 I flew on last year, but was entirely wrong. Very powerful too, great fun taking off and landing! très belle machine ! les gens ont beaucoup de préjugé sur les avion russe alors qu'il n'y connaisse absolument rien ! ce son des avions très robuste avec des formes peu communes mais ce son des avions qui ont connu dans leur existence beaucoup moins de crash que nos amis les Boeing et Airbus !!
    très belle vidéo :) j'aimerais beaucoup prendre un de ces avions avant qu'il n'y en ait plus !

    I really want to go on a very old 1960s-1970s plane like that. Too bad all the airlines in the United States retired them. You can only ride planes like that in Europe and in other countries. Hopefully one of these days I'll get to film a vintage plane from the 70s.

    • @noelphilips
      @noelphilips  7 лет назад

      It's a shame there aren't too many flying these days. You are lucky to still have the old Mad Dogs for now in the US, even here in Europe we have mostly Airbus and Boeing these days. You can find Twin Otters and other turboprops like that but you have to hunt them down :(

    Tu154... loved the flights from Moscow to Ulanbator when i was smaller.
    to all the critics, the tu154 had the same crash statistics as the B737 early variants.
    And both were killed by bad maintenance or human errors, the only difference is, that most people cant remember the days of 727s 737earlys, A300s and '10s and even the 747earlys.
    Aircrafts were loud and heavy! for me as someone who flew 26years almost every year from germany to mongolia via moscow, beijing or even moscow-irkutsk, the TU154 is part of my experience in aviation as a pax!
    it seems that some people dont have that experience because western airlines modernized their fleet faster than former soviet countrys and therefore compare their T7s and A340s with a TU154 which isnt fair!

    • @noelphilips
      @noelphilips  8 лет назад

      +drFu Manchu Yep, absolutely agree! Those Tups are solid pieces of kit, still flying after 20 odd years whereas a lot of western types are retired after just a few years. The safety issues are all down to the operators, hence why we are starting to see a lot of accidents with western types, all in places with poor maintenance and procedures. You are very lucky to have flown on so many Tu154s :)

    It sounds like this airplane has three engines. What a sound! I remember flying in the DC8, DC9, DC7-B and the Tristar. Incredible planes, and I loved the sounds of those engines. Today's planes seem to have much larger engines, so the RPM is slower. Now this is coming from someone who's blind, but I always felt it more in the smaller planes. I love jets so much more than turboprops and single engine airplanes. I also know I'm a lot safer. In your opinion, what's the best and safest aircraft?

    • @noelphilips
      @noelphilips  9 лет назад +1

      Heather stubbs Hey, hope you enjoyed the video! Yep this is a 25 year old Russian tri-jet. I love the engine noise from rear-engined jets as you get less of the rumble and more of the music! To be honest, I don't really see any particular aircraft types as being safe/unsafe, they are all safe when operated correctly. It's more to do with the the airline than the aircraft type. Meant to ask you, did you find the sound quality any better on this video than my previous ones? I am using a different mount now that doesn't obscure the microphone as much.

    • @heatherstub
      @heatherstub 9 лет назад

      inflight Video Yes, it was a vit better. Thank you so much! It's still not wide open like surround sound, but it's getting there. I love the whine of those engines. It's too bad we don't get to hear that much more, although I live right in the flight path of PDK Airport here in Atlanta. (It's the call letters for Peachtree-DeKalb Airport, and they have a lot of private and corporate jets that fly in and out of there everyday. I love to go there and just sit at one of the picnic tables right by the fense by the runway where they takeoff and land. You can also listen to ATC right there if you have a scanner. The airport also features biplane trips to several different locations outside Atlanta, and there are some fantastic WWII military airplanes that the airport offers group tours with short flights to and from a few locations. I believe one of those is to Lake Lanear and back for a day-long get together. They're very popular, and I believe there's a waiting list for reservations. Then there are the airshows every year from PDK and Dobbins Airforce Base in Cobb County about half an hour away. One of those is Wings Over Atlanta, and it's always a huge success. Atlanta also has 2 other airports. There's Charly Brown and Brisco Airfield which is expanding in to another airport similar to PDKA. Late in the evening, I can hear some of those corporate jets coming in for a landing at PDK, and some of those sound similar to the older jets of yesteryear. It's all tons of fun!

      Heather stubbs Thank you, I am looking at upgrading the camera too at some point to the new GoPro so that may improve it further. I love Atlanta. Georgia is my favourite place in the USA and I have been there several times. Such a beautiful place and lovely people. Flown into ATL a couple of times, and drove up to Valdosta and across to Waycross and the coast last year. Wonderful place!

      Speed is Tu-154's bless and curse. It's really the fastest passenger jet in service, but it consumes 1.5 times more fuel than a320, and it's very hard and dangerous to fly that thing on low speeds. See Pulkovo Airlines Flight 612, Aeroflot Flight 7425 and Vladivostok Air Flight 352.
