Smoke machines are amazing. Found bad o ring on my fuel injector today after months trying to replace everything. Bad idles, rpms jumping, cat and 02 codes. Was on my 2008 ford escape 3.0. Nice video 👍
I have the same problem on a ranger 2002 3L. After replacing motor truck runs poorly and lack power. Have not been able to find the leak. Replaced injectors, coil pack, wires, plugs, 02 sensors still same problem. Now I have p0171 & p0175. Great video
That was a pretty serious leak. Your short terms are going negative and should stay that way until long terms are closer to zero. That's what you want to see. You could also disconnect battery to return ECU to default settings (or possibly use scan tool). Sometimes it takes a little while for long term trims to come down.
I have a Chevy c3500 I put a new engine in and it’s been throwing lean A/F ratio all trims within range as should be at idle and acceleration. Used same smoke machine as you. Found a leak at intake boot and at coil/spring on side of throttle body. I replaced throttle body (still leaking same place spring) I changed Engine O2 sensors MAF MAP Fuel pump Fuel regulator Fuel filter All air hoses Runs like a champ no hesitation trims good but check engine lights on and throwing a/f code still I believe it’s the spring on throttle body
I have been chasing these two for a month and was going to get or make a smoker when I went ahead and bought another can of carb clean today. Took off the PVC and inspected (again!) and then sprayed all over...this time caught a hint on the passenger firewall...really wet it and BINGO. Behind the solenoid was another rotten piece of that foam type hose. This one is like 1/8th. I thought it was going to be small. I believe that's it but I want to LOOK at all of it now. I still have a slight vibe in the seat at idle.
and now I keep getting a P0175, too rich bank 2 only according to freeze frame info. Seems to be right at warm up temp as it doesn't throw again if i turn off light on the fly. Pops back on next time I start it. I need to check the timing chain stretch I'm afraid.
I blew a head gasket on a 1989 E350 with an actual 46k miles on it last month. I then fired up my 88 F150 (5.0) (200 miles since full rebuild..new tranny and regeared rear end. I tried driving to a job in So Cal via the Grapevine.. (moutain pass) and 3 miles from the top..oil pump quit) Tappity tappity. I picked up this 97 (164k) by swapping the owner a well used 20ga pump shotgun. Its been nickle and diming me to death..after spending my savings trying to get the other 2 back on the road. No truck.. no work.. no money... no money..the van and truck dont get fixed... sigh.
@@aaronsrose Now if I work my butt off.. I can get the other 2 back on the road again and have a "cushion" in case something breaks down. When my closest client is 97 miles away... having transport for me and my tools (I repair machinery in machine shops)... is very important.
Hi, great video Question, When smoke testing the intake manifold do I have to set engine to TDC or not,? Reason for my question is because I have smoke from oil cap & dip stick when removed,
I would say to try to block the PCV system. That's about the only thing I can think that would put the smoke into the crankcase. If the pcv valve is stuck open that would cause lean conditions as well.
I'm getting my first smoke test machine later today, going to use on a 2005 with lean codes. Where do I hook it up at, the evap Schrader valve, vacuum line, gas cap or intake? Never used one before... thanks!
If you can close off the throttle body, I think I'd start with the brake booster hose. That will definitely fill the intake system to look for leaks like I found. Thanks!
My 97 ,4.6 was throwing a lean code on bank one , hard start, backfires once through the throttle body, then fires up, vilont shaking ide, the levels out, in neutral, put in gear and the vilont shaking is back , floor the throttle, and she won't go over 25 mph, rpms seem to work normal, I've put all new EGR system, fuel pump, throttle body control sencer, plugs, wires, o2's , changed one coil pack. Mass air flow , no difference. Please anyone, please point me in the right direction. Thanks guys

From what I have read and heard it is always that 90 degree rubber elbow that has the leak.

PCV Circuit at the back of the Manifold. The 90 degree rubber boot is a Common Problem.
Im dealing with a 97 as well. It sat for 9 yrs before I got it.. one fix at a time...sigh...
I hear ya. If you have questions shoot. I've replaced about every moving part on this thing at least once. Good luck!

@@aaronsrose It PASSED California smog test today!! Got my sticker and everything....chuckle. Thanks!
Fantastic! That is impressive!

For EVAP leaks you could try one of the lines near the charcoal canister but those don't usually make the truck run lean.
Should of just use plastic bad on intake throat. @ put little hose on any vacuum on intake. Much easier...lol. good job though. I gotta get a smoker
I HAD SAME CODE AND IT WAS MY 02 SENSOR BANK 2 SENSOR 2., I JUST EVEY CAR IS DIFFERENT

intake manifold failure
Can you check the fuel trims? I certainly sounds like a bad vacuum leak somewhere.
I had the same problem with mine and ended up being a clogged cat
Not as good a diagnostic tool tester as you could have.
Are you sober? Because a guy that talks like you do usually is a drinker.
You don’t have any to show, just I waste my time… just bla, bla bla
