  • Check engine light is on. Code P0524 for oil pressure too low. We need to diagnose this system and find out why the oil pressure is too low. Inspect the oil pressure sensor, oil temp. sensor, and oil pressure solenoid valve. Removal of the oil pan and eventually replace the timing chain driven oil pump. There is quite a bit of diagnostics in this one as we try to follow the flow chart and perform all of the steps to try and see what's goin' on.

Hey there, I have a 2017 Cx5 with the engine and oil lights on. I received error codes P0524 and P055F. The car has no power at all. After I erased the codes, I drove for 15 minutes and there were no warning lights or loss of power. Do you think it could be the pump?

Could be the pump. Could be the pressure sender. Could be the pressure solenoid. Or, maybe it's low on oil, engine sludged up, a piece of plastic from the oil filter got stuck in the oil galley from the last oil change, or something else. The only way to know for sure is to diagnose it. If it is setting those codes and loosing power I would get it checked out. If you run it with low oil pressure it could cause engine damage. There is just no way to know for sure without looking at it.

What caused this oil pump to fail?

ON this one, I couldn't say for sure. Usually its not the mechanical pump itself but, the pressure regulator or bypass valve in the pump. It gets stuck and dumps the oil back into the pan instead of providing pressure to the system.

@@ShopForemanGarage Thanks for your response. Also thanks for your video on the coolant valve. I just had it replaced on my 2021 CX5 with only 13000 miles on it.Heats up much better now.
