Hi Mike, I delivered your new combine today. Also ran into your brother Brain at the dealership. Had a very nice conversation with him. Anyways hope the new iron treats you well.
I am an avid viewer since more than two years ago (can't remember). i have to be honest that watching your last video i thought Mike pooped the bed with this one . I am sure seeding green is going to work much better for you especially in high rainfall areas. Check out Derek Axten, Ray Archuleta, Nicole Masters and so many more ( pm me for more on no till seeding, soil health and soil aggregation if you are interested ). This is why i respect you. You are always open to experimentation and you aren't set in your ways! Respect. A farmer has a finite number of seasons in him/her.. so we have to make the best out of them and learn more so our children get a head start.
What we usually do when we seed into grass is smoke it good with burn off and then give it a couple good drinks of roundup over summer. That’s why we always put canola on grass.
When my niece was about the same age as your son, the only thing that would calm her down when she got too cranky was sitting on the porch swing and watching for tractors working on the neighboring farms. It wasn't her first word, but "traktur" was in her first five. Several times, I had to bundle her up tightly to be able to keep her outside more than a few seconds since she was so much smaller than "Unka Bent" and far, far more susceptible to cold temperatures.
I've had that exact same track slip happen in a 1st gen Challenger 75. once, when I turned in some really slimy mud, it got between the wheel and the track and wouldn't clean, but it didn't become a problem until I was actually just out of the mud, and thus I was stuck on dry ground. it was really discouraging.
I would really love to see fendt 4track. It's really weird that they haven't made one. Maybe it's because they are more Europe manufacture or I don't now. Love the vids 💚 keep them coming.
They already have the 4track vario s4 track and even a six track called the Trisix vario nick named "Mobydick" and boasting 540 horsepower and six wheel drive. What they don't have is a quadtrack like the rx9.
Great move mike ,it will do you well ,better than ripping the ground first,a few nice warm days and that will germinate fine ,grass will give a little cover for the young canola seed before the grass dies back ,very trendy thing to do here in the uk using cover crops ,good luck mike
RADICAL, straight into the grass 😱 Our last shot of Roundup took like 10 to 11 days to really show its killer skills in grass like that. I guess it could coincide with the canolis really starting to grow🤔
Hey Mike, can you put tile drainage in of your sloughs? We have run tile in our low ground with open inlets where the water collects to get rid of surface water. Works well and can plant all our field at once. Enjoy the vids.
Im kinda straight over in the next province and drainage tiles don’t work here water has no where to go. Some have tried and the water holes still are there
I seed into old hay stands and pastures with a 15ft jd 1590 disc drill. Had to get mapping auto steer to know what’s seeded or not. Very minimal disturbance to see what’s seeded
Here in the UK we would not get a crop of canola to grow as the Ph would be too low after 10 years of grass have you got some magic potions in the Cart😊
I feel like the traction surface on the JD tracks is not very well designed, sure it offers decent flotation and a smooth ride, but the lugs are not aggressive enough. Also no idea why AGCO Challenger/Fendt never put a positive drive on their 2 tracks and has kept running friction drive since the Caterpillar/Claas days
Hay Mike love the videos just wondering if you haven't explained before but why do you have one big tire on one side and one smaller on the other of the drill?
Hello Mike. When you talk about slip on the two track, is it the track slipping on the soil or the drive wheel slipping on the track that is been measured?
I found that seeding into long grass lost a lot of N, as the grass rotted down, you need to borrow a herd of 1000 cows for a week or two. That is the most incredible seed drill, it can do almost anything. I was wondering if you could put a desiccant in with the roundup? I am going to follow this with interest, I suspect you are not the first to do this up North but this late? Are the rivers full, too full for the Ferries? We normally get a wet and warm winter or a cold dry one but this year is wet and cold. Thankfully we are close to a pacific island for some heat.
Oh that grass will die in a few days and be completely burnt right off in a week.. The growing conditions our very good, and I also look forward to watching the differences 😁🙂
@@Adam-bw4lw I’d disagree there, I’d love to compare yield data on that and see how it actually works. Regen has its place but it’s not an effective blanket solution

I'm actually super excited to see how this turns out seeding into the grass like that

Awesome to see Ashtyn still determined to help, even with a cranky baby. As a mum, it's easy to feel useless sometimes.

We drilled wheat into grass last autumn. Sprayed the grass off. Straight in with drill. 3” Dutch points. Came a treat and looks well at the mo.
Seems like a good idea. The grass will give you traction. And like you said, the grass will burn off soon.. can't wait to see what happens.
Frame footage would have been awesome to see. Looking good mike!

You will probably grow one of your best crops ever, that's light soil it will be fine.

Makes sense that the two track does better on straight passes. it has more surface area on the ground
Maybe the two track stays mostly on the sod whereas the John Deere would break through to the wetter soil.

huh, makes me wonder a bit if they make seeders with hydraulic assisted wheels to help push
Hay Mike love the videos just wondering if you haven't explained before but why do you have one big tire on one side and one smaller on the other of the drill?
Hello Mike. When you talk about slip on the two track, is it the track slipping on the soil or the drive wheel slipping on the track that is been measured?
Normally its measuring track slippage on the soil. Actual ground speed measured by radar or satellite vs what speed would be with zero slippage.
Grass is green

Morning
that is wierd youtube is not notifying me of mikes new vids.
Mike, tell us a litle bit on how is 1167 pulling. I wonder if it has power that you need?
Direct drilling? Welcome to New Zealand
We can believe you can actually grow a crop seeding in conditions like that our soils in Ontario would not allow that
Chew, chew, your on the mud train.
When will you harvest the canola?
There is one question. That hole item you have. What is the cost
Key word is wet!!
You will get some great yield, becaus you growing canola on trees.. 🤣🤣
looks like you got lots of spray water
I was wondering do you think you’ll put any tile in that area up north where you’re at now to help control that water so you can farm more of that land or just get used to going around it??
Where does all that water come from, is there a creek or a spring that's feeding it
crazy how much water is in the field
Rule of thumb: 1” of rain = 27,000 Gal/acre. Mike said he’s had over 7” of rain so do the math PER ACRE.
The dirt is just extra weight on the tractor
Why canola so late ???
It's been to wet to seed any earlier
There is so such thing as mistakes, only test plots
so Mike question! what's the deepest you have ever seeded? and witch crop goes the deepest?
The bigger the seed, the deeper the seed goes into the soil.... "that's what she said" 😉
Yeah we broadcast everything and hit it with a packer at about 30degree angle
No Till, Best Till?
Why don't you put less weight in your buggy so you can pull it easier but you would have to fill it more often when that be a wise thing to do so you don't get stuck
throw some fish in old lake Mitchell there lol
Will you tile some of the ground up North?
its getting stupid, here in southeastern sask, we have been getting 8/10ths of rain every two days
I wonder if there is even a need to spray and burn the grass down. Maybe not.
I wonder if it's true that you are the most northern farmer with "Beach front property" ? Lol
the north is way better than the south, no drought and way more beautiful to live
Mike you are better buying a turf cutting machine this year 🌈 sell grass
Can someone tell me if Mike uses his crops to feed cows or if sells it for flour and/or oil production?
Sells all of it on both farms.
Probably all goes straight to the port of Vancouver.
Depends what grade it goes for

How come one wheel is bigger than other on front of the drill mike ?
The wide angle camera lens makes the wheel on the right edge of the frame appear wider than the wheel in the center of the frame
@@dfo67 ah that would do it
You might need to seed rice!,,
Why is the right tyre on the drill wider than the left one? :)
Or is it just the angle??
Edit: Dang it, I messed up left and right...
I have seen that too, it changes with the camera angle. There was one spot in this video when suddenly the opposite center tire looked bigger.
Just think if that cart had a drive system to help move it. I'll bet soon to come
Where’s the ducks?
The cost of seeding canola in mud hmmm she don’t grow where we are farming
