    Baking soda and vinegar is a mixture that makes no sense. The baking soda is basic and the vinegar acidic and they will neutralize each other.

    Did all this and mine still kept clicking when turned down to simmer. I had to take out the gas jet, the little brass nut down in the center, and ream it clean with a sewing needle. Just a tiny bit of debris in there means there is not enough gas flow to keep the burner lit when turned to low setting....the igniter senses the lack of flame and tries to constantly relite the burner.

    It might be the problem but it might not be be. My problem ended up being a faulty wiring harness. I figured this out after cleaning, replacing all of the igniters, and the igniter relay. My 13 year old stove is almost brand new!

    Hi all, need your thoughts. I have a new never used 20 yr old Kenmore gas cook top. The ignitors will not spark unless the knob is turned past the "high" setting. The gas has to travel thru a 3 inch venturi tube. That is a lot of raw gas spewing out before ignition. Is this cook top safe to install in a family home with kids? Please share your thoughts. Txs

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  26 дней назад +1

      @@bobpratt7083
      Thanks for watching, any update? By chance were the knobs already installed on cooktop when removing from packaging or did you have to install them?
      Being new…but 20 years old…it shouldn’t be giving you any issues…unless corrosion has formed inside igniters…but thats unlikely if always kept packaged and never open.
      Back to the knobs. We have seen in the past that the knobs were installed improperly during the install process. The knobs themselves secure onto a stud, and if not properly aligned…it will lead to issues similar to what you’re experiencing.

      @DIYwithMichaelBorders hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, brand new but older model. Knobs on correctly. I am a gas repairman and worked on many appliances. I can not test the cook top. All that I am very concerned about is why did Kenmore design the ignitors to function by turning the knob on fully to 'high" and letting all that raw gas spew into the kitchen prior to lighting. Newer models have the ignitors next to the burners and function as soon as you turn the knob or press down and turn the knob. Txs bob

      Thanks for the reply, that is interesting. Is it a strong gas odor? If so, that can’t be normal…🤔

    • @bobpratt7083
      @bobpratt7083 25 дней назад +1

      @DIYwithMichaelBorders not hooked up yet. No gas to it. But I am concerned to install in a family home. I can not contact Kenmore to inquire. Note: nothing is wrong with this new 20 yr old cooktop. It is still laying on my shelf. I can hook it up to propane and turn the knob to "ignite" but that would increase the amount of gas spewing into my basement because the natural gas orifice has a larger hole. It will ignite and I am only concerned with raw gas entering a kitchen before it ignites. There are children in that house. This inquiry is only answered because I need to know if you or someone else are familar with this type of ignition. A poorly designed ignition system. Txs

      Your thoughts and concerns are valid, legit, and appropriate. Safety is number one, especially having kids in your home.
      We haven’t operated a cooktop that requires the knobs to be turned to full high in order to engage/activate igniter.
      Reminds us of a gas grill design…very unique design…🤔

    In the end it was easy! The knobs are fixed to the stems with a grub screw so they can't come off. grab one knob pull it up and towards yourself. this seems to make some sort of short circuit and it stops happening. stove works again like normal! Problem fixed! 8

      Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. The next troubleshooting step we recommend looking at is your actual Ignition Switch’s. These are located underneath your knobs.
      You will need to carefully remove knobs & clean all switches. Over the years of cooking, these little switches can gather food particles, dust, & corrosion...ultimately causing your cooktop to degrade.

      Our stoves have a feature called auto reignition, it is able to sense the presence of flame and if it knows the gas is on but no flame is sensed it will trigger a spark again. It senses the spark by the increased electrical conductivity of the flame. It senses this between the spark tip and the flame port right next to it. That means if the flame port is clogged or the spark tip is corroded/gunked up with debris it will not be able to correctly sense the presence of the flame. To fix this clicking issue you need to check two things on every burner.
      1. That the spark tip is clean, like this video shows.
      2. That the gas ports/flame guides nearest to the spark tip are clean (this was my issue, I had to disassemble and run a drill bit through the tiny holes to clear out the blockage)
      If that doesn't work, then could be something wrong with the igniter electronics.

      Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. Let’s get this figured out.
      A few things come to mind.
      1. Spark Ignition
      Your spark ignition is in charge of starting the Spark process...if it fails, all burners will click.
      2. Spark Module
      Your Spark Module is in charge of controlling all spark sequences & if it fails...you will experience miscellaneous sparks on different igniters...& sometimes all igniters.
      Replacing both parts should definitely get your stove top up & running properly & efficiently.

      Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. This is more common than you think. Let’s get this figured out together!
      It’s very possible that the spill that was added to the igniter on that specific burner is causing an interference with the igniters electrical connection.
      We recommend cleaning the igniter & then getting it lit. You may have to manually light the burner with a lighter....Be extremely careful. Once it’s lit, allow the burner to burn for several minutes...it may take up to 25 minuets or so to allow that burner to burn off any additional particles in order to allow the electrical current to work properly & efficiently again.
      Let’s start there! Keep us posted!

      Thanks for watching & depends on who you ask. For us, any sounds or things happening to your cooktop that are not normal will lead to further damage. We recommend cleaning or replacing part sooner rather than later. Hope this helps.
