  • This is my razor scooter i have modifed, I am not sure about the battery backpack, but it is essential for a "commuter scooter" because you carnt charge or use freezing lipo's, and its nice to know that i am not leaving £400 worth of batteries outside.
    "The capacitors are in Parallel, not series Dam It."
    For the 80-100 brushless outrunner motor 130kv alienpowersystem.com
    For the vesc www.enertionboards.com/.
    Everthing else is from ebay
    UPDATE : The switch was finally upgraded to 150a, and the batterys and bms are all sealed in the scooter now i have done hundreds of miles and all is fantastic. All charged from a single xt 90 connector.

    Did a 24V based mod for the UberScoot 300 (ES04) for my teenagers. Do NOT want a scooter that goes over 25 kmph on the roads, bicycle paths, or sidewalks as it requires licensing, registration and insurance beyond that speed in CH. I upgraded the motor to a 350W/24V unit with same mounting bracket (off of eBay/Ali). A 24V / 12000 MAh Li-ion based battery off of AliE (with name brand cells from Samsung or LG, from LiitoKala store), and an upgraded 24V controller that will handle up to 500W. This will manage the torque necessary to navigate hills while keeping speed muted. Excellent range with this unit.

    love the build look out for me around fenton on mine, not as crazy as yours though. cheap 6374 off ebay and a flipsky vesc running 12s 30ah li-on's. Had a nightmare finding a cog for the 6374 with its 10mm shaft so still not ridden it yet, should be here next week, but im upgrading soon now ive seen this lol. great water cooling idea for the vesc, ive mounted mine on the outside for cooling and so i caould fill the tray with 18650's, just need to finish designing a 3d printed cover for it. Just finished the kids e100 with a 4130 and a flipsky vesc, they are real light weight and it flys, just needs a spray job and some grip tape. Got a few brushless projects on the go, another e100 and e300 mountain board and a mini moto quad. I need some alien power system motors

    • @dickiewithers9564

      I use 2 x 6s bms. One for each lipo. So I charge with an xt 90 plug. No disassembly required. I have a adjustable power supply set to 50.2v. The batteries stay perfectly balanced.

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  6 лет назад +2

      DigitalBaloo the bms cuts the power to each cell at 4.25v then balances down to 4.2v so the bms does all the clever stuff. All bms cut the power when a cell is over 4.25v you can test a cheap bms power bank. My high quality meanwell power supply is capable of adjustable voltage and current.

    Seems very powerful. How does the capacitors helped the performance? are they connected in In parallel? Do they give more power to the motor? Why were the batteries not under the deck? The chain-driven wheel does not seem to be using a freewheel. Would one improve the efficiency? Thank you for this video.

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  7 лет назад +1

      Yes the capacitors are connected in parallel, they do give more power to the motor and soak up voltage coming back from the motor, it still has the free wheel but i may remove it to try regenerative breaking, and the batteries are not under the deck because they dont fit, but now i have my bms working and i can charge using only the xt90 connector i will try and squeeze it all under the deck,

    • @arrowstheorem1881
      @arrowstheorem1881 7 лет назад

      Dickie Withers Oh, i see, when braking, power is cut off from motor and the momentum of the moving motor generates electricity into the capacitors which charges the batteries. Wow, does the capacitors also give you a boost when moving off? I don think so since its one directional as in it charges the batteries only and current from the batteries are not able to go thru the capacitors in a output direction and blocked by a diode?

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  7 лет назад

      capacitors work like a battery only they work much faster, they deliver and recieve huge amounts of current very quickly.

    Hi Dickie,
    I have been following your video blogs with great interest as I'm planning to modify my Razor E200.
    I've been sourcing and compiling a list of parts, suplliers as well as hours spent surfing the web for the specification of all the components (motors, brakes, batteries etc) checking thier compatability, before hand to make sure they'll all work/ fit before starting my hack.
    It would be helpful if you could enlighten me, and your ever increasing fanbase of the following kindly please.................
    1) You are using a 140mm disc on the front wheel. What type of caliper kit did you fit? Was this supplied in a kit, i.e. caliper and disc together? If so what type? I have followed your previous web-link, only shows 160mm discs, with two options (front & rear I.S) or (front P.M. rear I.S.) what does the P.M and I.S stand for?
    2) The front wheel (complete with disc) Is this a 9inch wheel? Is the tyre size 200x50 (I suspect not)? I observed that the RIM was a cast moulding, which I assume is a split rim type like the rear one on my E200. What is the axle width, and wheel diameter on your front RIM? I am trying to deteremine if the cast type (Used on an UBER ES04) front wheel wil physically fit the front fork assembly of my Razor E200.
    Many thanks for your answers, I know you are a busy chap, with all that riding, and burning up of multimeters, while testing batteries etc....lol... :-)
    Really enjoying your videos pal,...

      hi and welcome, 1, yes the 160mm disc kit allso fits to 140mm discs it just so happens the wheel came with a 140mm disc, i.s and p.m are two standard mounts that come with a small conversion bracket, they wont fit directly to our scooters so not to worry. 2, the front rim is 4 inch diameter and approx 3 inch deep with a 3.00-4 tyre, its a pretty standard scooter wheel from a maf scooter but the uber may be similar, i used my origanal axle and just cut the spacers down to suit the wheel. yes it looks like a split rim. i think the e200 has smaller dimensions like my rx200 and you may have to change the front forks. thanks for your interest.

      Hi Dickie,
      Ive been looking into ESC's to control the Alien C80100 motor. I know this motor is spec'd at 200A so ideally I would need an ESC capable of these burst currents upto this value. I'm trying to understand why you opted for the VESC controller as opposed to a standard 200A ESC?
      Also wanted you advice if you think this ESC (200A Brushless Water Cooling Speed Controller ESC with 5V/5A SBEC for RC Boat) as listed reently on Ebay; would be upto the job at all?
      I was thinking of modifying a Servo tester to work with the Hall effect throtttle for control signal into this ESC. What do you think?
      Hopefully I get a video up soon as soon as Ive ordered all the parts I need to start my build.

      Thanks for info Dickie,
      I've ordered a cheap 800W motor controller. I'm going to run it with the standard 24v 200W motor some dual 5S 18.5V LIPOs (yet to be ordered) and monitor what the max speed (MPH /KPH) achived via a cycle computer which I plan to fit to the handlebars, and magnet sensor on the front rim wheel.
      I dont really mind if this motor burns out, as its a progresive build. Try it and see what fails then replace and upgrade / over-engineered.
      I think when this motor fails (and it will,.... ooh yes lol..) I'll then look into replacing the motor. but until then.....Happy motor burning...lol...

    Hello Dickie,
    Im planning on using 4 packs of 5s (18v) Lipos to provide a total power bank of 36v. I've now fitted and tested the new variable throttle with the 36v (800w) motor controller, it all worked fine under no load.
    What I am trying to understand how you split charge your 12s packs, from one XT90 charge port on your scooter Dickie?
    I'm planning on using two 5s 18v packs connected in series(pack A) to give 36v, and the other two 5s packs (Pack B) the same. I then plan to double these packs up (pack A) and (Pack B) in paralell to increase the run time in Amp hours.
    I am trying to understand how you deal with the balance connectors for each pack Dickie?
    Could you tell me a little more about how you fitted yours into the scooter battery compartment (what was previously your backpack) and what additional kit you connected to the packs please?
    I have purchased AIRSOFT-LIPO-voltage-Meter, as you have. did you have this permanently connceted to the balance lead while charging thru the XT90 port Dickie?
    Much thanks

      @dickiewithers9564  6 лет назад +1

      Dub Musiclover ok
      Dub welcome, if you leave a hobby type cell balancer on a large lipo pack it won’t have the capacity to balance the pack and it will in practice unbalance the pack. So you only use them rarely to check everything is working right. So I used 1 bms for each lipo pack. So you need x4 5s bms. Then you break the negative and connect each lipo negative to their bms.The balance connectors just plug in and you put an elastic band around the bms and each pack.

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  6 лет назад +2

      Then you use a good quality power supply. And check that it doesn’t get to hot and monitor the voltage while charging from empty and ensure that the voltage stays below in your case 42v (41.98) You could use any charger and let the bms disconnect the battery negative when the voltages are high or low but I use the quality charger route and adjust it .2v below fully charged for safety. Get back to me if I haven’t explained enough.

    • @dickiewithers9564

      a high power motor is not required at 24v unless you are moving heavy weights, it is easier to change the speed controller than the motor, but you can fit a 350w 24v motor in by cutting of the stand and doing some angle grinding, a high power motor is required to reduce heat, if you require higher speeds you need to increase voltage or gearing . then you will burn out the standard motor, i have a razor i have modified using this 350w motor ebay 390846126308 and 36v batteries and it is a great upgrade,

      Wow 65c. You should aim for about 15c ( 240amps) to reduce voltage drop under load. Don’t go less than 10c it would seriously limit the power and life of your battery’s. I am going to google 65c 16000mah lipo, but I think they won’t exist as they would be bombs at 1040amps. What kind of cables would you need for that. Wow

      I finally took my scooter out for a test ride and noticed that it looses speed after only 200 meters. I have a 245kv motor (2700w) and three 5200mah lipos in series. I checked the real time data and the mosfets were about 45 deg C with (80/100 limits). What app and motor settings would you recommend for my current setup?

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  7 лет назад

      2 problems the kv of the motor is to high, You need a 8:1 reduction on your gears to run that motor on the vesc, and you will have volt drop on your lipos, your temps are fine at the moment, you can lower the "battery cut of voltage" ,
      so you need 1, lower kv motor 2, bigger rear sprocket, 3,smaller wheels, 4, bigger lipos to stop volt drop under load.
      If you just used bigger lipos 10000mah then your mosfets would overheat in 5 mins.

      That's reassuring. I bought a E300 recently with the thought of using it to get to work. The SLA batteries were goosed, so I junked the Razor controller and put in a 48V 1000W PWM that I had lying around and hooked up a power cord to use my 67.2v 16s 6p battery pack I use on my ebikes. For good measure and minimal grief, I also put in the 350w MY1016 motor. The outcome is about 23mph on the flat and it wants to pick the front wheel up. I've got to uprate the connection though as it's on!y 1mm2, so I'll have shedloads of voltage drop. My first impression is that the drum brake is completely inadequate, so I'll have a look at your hydraulic front brake mod.

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  6 лет назад

      awesome battery, i have a razor i squeezed the 350w motor in it runs great at 36v, it would get hot at 60v though, that 1mm must be reducing the current, give it a good run and let me know if it gets hot. a hydraulic disc brake is a great cofidence booster.

    • @plodderexup
      @plodderexup 6 лет назад

      It may be limiting the current but the cable wasn't warm after a two mile ride around the estate (including a 400m 3% slope), so I'm not sure. The motor was only lukewarm too but I didn't test it with the IR thermometer, so can't quantify it.
      I think it's partly due to the motor spinning with the low 80/11 gear, rather than being asked for too much torque, so its back emf will also limit current. It's rated at 18A, so in theory I could be doing 60 x 18 = 1080W within the current limit; I don't think 24mph takes that much power, so maybe I'm under geared.
      I ordered the MAF disc wheel, which I believe from your other comments to be fitted with a 140mm disc. I've also found a caliper mounting bracket on ebay (from China) for a 140mm disc and a 28mm fork (so I'll fit a packer ring).
      In terms of a caliper, the ebay listing you cited isn't clear in its description; it seems to suggest it is two sets (one for the front and one for the rear), together with 160 & 180mm discs). Can you clarify? I'll also ask the seller, as I've upgraded the controller on my e-tandem and can't find a regenerative brake function on it. One option is to put a disc on the rear, so if the listing is for both then that kills two birds with one stone.

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  6 лет назад

      yes from memory i got front and rear discs and calipers/mounts in the kit i thought of installing the rear kit but the front brake is good for now, i had to chop the handle bars because the length of the front pipe was a bit short, but the quality of the kit was excellent, i believe you can get a screw in disc mount to replace the rear drum, i kept the 140mm disc beacause it puts less strain on the mount.

    50,4volts x 80amps = 4000watts maximum, in case you ever reach 80amps!!! cause your controller can handle 60amps max!!!

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  6 лет назад

      60 amps all day long you mean. i do appreciate your ohms law, how ever this is a video of an electric scooter, The vesc goes way above 60 amps currently 80amp battery 120 amps motor, it doesnt get hot as long as the pumps running, the motor is rated at 7000w, you boffins only want to see the scooter pulling 140 amps, but wheres the fun in that, most electric scooters are listed by the maximum motor wattage for example a 1200w scooter has a motor rating of 600w constant 1200w peak so it is sold as a 1200w scooter

    • @dickiewithers9564
      @dickiewithers9564  6 лет назад +1

      All ratings are decided by the manufacturer and definately not OHMS LAW!!!!!!!!! amplifiers, scooters, tvs, you name it.

      50,4volts x 80amps = 4000watts maximum, in case you ever reach 80amps!!! 50volts x 12amph=600watth, also you may manage 4000watts for 600watth/4000watt= 0,15hours=6minutes maximum. if you can use it at max speed , let´s say, for continous 30min, then, your max power isn´t 4000watts, but 4000watts x (6min/30min)=4000/5=800watts, and that is 10 times les than what you claim, which means, that you chose the totaly false motor for your task, and use it in the efficiency field of 50% instead of the efficiency field of 90%, for which it is made for!!! all i want to say, isn´t that your claimed motor power is false, that is anyway obvious (my scooter weights 98kg, and me 88kg, together 413lbs, and reaches 100km/h with 7000watts!!!), but that your motor is falsely dimensioned, you should have chosen an 1000watt motor, and then use it at 800watts, as you anyway do... this way, you would save a lot of electricity (longer range, battery cost, motor weight), and your motor would weight just 300gr... hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-aerodrive-sk3-5055-280kv-brushless-outrunner-motor.html

      My motor is from alien power systems, 7000w, look it up, are you jealous, so you think i could put 4000w into a 1000w motor for 6 minutes, that would melt the motor, its more efficent to run your motor at its rated kv so the 280kv motor you suggested would be efficent at double the speed of my motor, which is bad in many ways, it is more efficent to do 30mph than 60mph, my scooter may do 100kmh at 4000w that would be a matter of gearing. Beacause 100km/h is so inefficent i have chosen the perfect kv motor of the perfect size to remain cool with a stronger 12mm shaft at my design speed which is 30mph, what batterys does your 7000w scooter have? many people have used the motor you suggested, it is to high a kv for scooter wheels and the bearings and shaft are to weak, it would be ok for skate boards as the wheels are smaller. Theese small lightweight motors are very powerfull and efficent for there size and weight. I carnt find any videos of your scooter did it blow up before you could get your camera out, ha ha. i understand a smaller motor would be more efficent thats how we all start, it melts and we move on,

    ebay 112098957265, and 391385914844 you will need to make two
    brackets, i used the battery strap from the scooter to make to bottom
    bracket and a bike stabalizer for the top bracket. allso you will need
    to cut down the axle spacers as the new wheel is wider.

      I hope not. I use it everywhere. Definition of a Motor Vehicle. The term 'motor vehicle' is defined
      in section 185(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and section 136(1) of
      the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as "a mechanically propelled vehicle, intended or adapted for use on roads".
      I have checked the case law, and i am confident, it is a childs toy (argos/smyths/toys r us). But please dont tell any body. Its my secret. Dont buy an adult scooter with suspension though else you will be going to jail.
