    £126.86 is $150 USD.
    The DIGI Retroboy has graphical glitches on many GBA games. Not to mention the aspect ratio is a bit off, and the sound is not perfect.
    Why spend this much on an inferior fake when you can get a genuine Nintendo GBA system w/AGS-101 replacement and a glass lens for under $90 shipped.
    Throw in an EZ-Flash Omega flashcart, and you'll have the ultimate setup on real hardware. You'll also be able to play all of your original GBA/GBC/GB carts as well.
    I also guarantee the build quality on those DIGI systems is not going to hold up. They are pretty flimsy from what I've read. GBA aftermarket parts are extremely cheap and easy to find. I dont expect the same of the DIGI Retroboy.

      Thanks.
      I don't think posting URL links in the comments is permitted, but you should be able to get them on eBay. Just search for "AGS-101 modded GBA, and sort by price. It should be around $85-$90.
      Then search for "EZ-Flash Omega". This should be around $50, or less.
      Good luck.

      Go to retromodding.com
      They have all you need.
      There is a process though.
      Find or buy an original gba, then find out which cable you need for the screen, then a glass screen and any other options you might need (like a shell or rubber pads if worn). You will need to get a hobby knife and trim the case a bit to fit the new screen and you will need the screwdrivers for it as well (triwing). And some verrrry small soldering is needed for a small wire off the ribbon cable.
      Its worth it though. I have 3 systems modded already and plan to do 3 more.

      Bren Lowe: That place is expensive. It's $224.56 + shipping there.
      The seller I bought my pre-modded GBA w/ AGS-101 screen, dual colored plastic body, real glass lens, and dual brightness setting for only $86 shipped.
      The guy does excellent work too. The LCD was perfectly seated, and there wasn't a spec of dust between the LCD and lens.
      I've recommended him to about 50 people now and everyone has been extremely happy. It's a shame I don't get commission from him!

      It's better than some others, but it's not as accurate an an original Nintendo GBA, if that matters to you.
      If hardware accuracy and owning an authentic piece of hardware doesn't matter as much, then you may want to just get a modded PSP. They are much cheaper, can play a ton of different emulated systems (NES/SMS/TG16/GEN/SNES/NeoGeo/MAME/Atari 2600/5200/7800/Colecovision/INTV/GB/GBC/GBA/CPS1/CPS2/NGPC/Wonderswan/NGCD/PCD CD/Sega CD/Some N64/ and of course PSP and PS1).
      Me? I own about 300 handheld and console systems, and around 5,000 games. I've been collecting this stuff since 1982, and have worked in the industry since 1991. So I have a bit of experience.

    • @HackerBilly13
      @HackerBilly13 6 лет назад +2

      videogameobsession Actually honestly for even less. Just buy a DS lite with a broken top screen. Solder on 1 resistor and just chop out that screen and buy a cheap R4 and then you literally have exactly what they are showing here.
      Only difference is that You cant use a Link Port but You have the good screen, the gba compatibility, all the emulators, ect.
      In the end you got yourself a Gameboy for like $35-40 at most.
      Broken Ds Lite: $15-$20 sometimes even $10
      Resistor: 10¢ at most if not free
      R4 cart: $15
      Cheapest and easiest way to have a gameboy running Original Hardware too.

    • @videogameobsession
      @videogameobsession 6 лет назад +3

      If you are going that route you might as well get a fully working DS Lite, and use a $10 Acekard 2i for DS roms + $10 EZFlash 3in1 for loading GBA roms from the Acekard to the slot2 cart. A 16GB SDmicro card should fit just about every worthwhile GBA and DS rom.
      The DS is fine. I have the original, Lite, DSi, DSi XL, but I still prefer playing GB/GBC/GBA games on the original model GBA without emulation. The best GB/GBC DS emulator, LameBoy, still isn't perfect yet, and I just like knowing that they are perfectly accurate.

    It plays the GBA games natively however the other systems are emulated. You WILL NOT be able to save pokemon gameboy and gameboy color games on it. The emulator goomba color allocates 64k to its emulation with 56k being used to store the emulators compressed files leaving 8k for saving gameboy game sram. That works great for several games but pokemon uses 32k of sram memory for saves so you will never actually have a save on it. This seems to be a clone of the RevoK101, mimicking the button layout, function, location of battery just in a slightly different outward appearance. Both cost the same but revo is out of china but they have a rather solid device. If anyone is wondering, if you have a GBA flashcart, you can load up these emulators on your flashcart to play the games on your GBA however I find the best for handheld emulation would be an R4 on a DS lite or even 3DS.

    In fact, I am using an EZFlashII GBA cart from 2004 which has emulators for NES/SMS/PCE/GBC/Wonderswan/Colecovision/NGPC/and even a SNES emulator, which admittedly doesn't work well due to the GBA not being powerful enough to emulate it.

    This is neat. It's a straight up hardware clone of a GBA. That's why it can play things like Game Gear and NES, the GBA cart it comes with is just a standard GBA flash cart.
    Sadly, being stuck playing GB/GBC games via the GBA flash cart means you're gonna be using an emulator on the flash cart. GB/GBC emulation on GBA flash carts ain't the best. It seems to handle original GB better than GBC. Original GB games play fine for the most part, though there tends to be some stuttering (especially noticeable on sidescrollers like Mario Land). GBC though, good luck. Some of 'em just crash at certain points, some won't load, and a lot of times the games have trouble saving. Even some of your popular games like Zelda Link's Awakening DX and Metal Gear Solid crash or break pretty early on.
    I'll admit, NES, Master System, and Game Gear games work surprisingly well through emulation on a flash cart. You'll have to deal with the screen being a bit squished on NES/MS though. And if you play rom hacks, don't expect every hack to work perfectly. I had a few Mario 3 hacks glitch out and crash on me.
    Just a heads up for anyone buying one of these, that's all. Don't expect it to be running GB/GBC through real hardware. It's still emulation. GBA games should be using real hardware though, even through the flash cart.

    hey, i love your videos but I have to tell you a critic, when you try the systems you always let the background music mix with the music of the consoles, what doesnt let you know if the quality of the speakers its good enough or, if the emulation has any lag. Keep it up

    How well do the roms run? Seemed like there were some issues with Sonic. Would love to see if there is any lag or frame rate issues with the roms.

    • @RetroDodo
      @RetroDodo  6 лет назад +1

      It's pretty good. The issue with Sonic was actually my fault, the start button would pause the game, I just got confused. xD - I saw a little bit of frame rate drop on GG roms. Thanks for watching and commenting Roque!

    That's like having a Gameboy Micro with emulators on it. Only plays GBA carts, an the rest are the same emulators that run roms like you can get for any old GBA flash kit. If you're getting weird performance issues on anything other than GBA it's down to the emulator as I've seen that. If the GBA games themselves have issues, than the handheld slightly sucks. You asked what is cheaper? If you wanted it, you can (USD) buy a EZ Flash Omega which can run all the stuff you mentioned and straight from the menu per game like your system there for $50USD (whcih is half the price of the everdrive and runs equally as well as they finally caught up to them.) The EZ kit doesn't have little lag spikes like the kit with your handheld. So if you already have a good GBA of some type and buy the kit, you're about even if you have a spare micro SD lying around.

    You can totally get a card reader for the real GBA. I had one back in the day. It could also play GB and nes games (because people wrote emulators), and even read ebooks.

  • @SproutyPottedPlant
    @SproutyPottedPlant 6 лет назад

    The other systems it plays are using the emulators you can get for the GBA anyway. I use the GameGear one. You have a PC tool that packs the emulator and ROMs into one big GBA ROM.

    if it did snes as well i would probably grab one, cheaper than everdrive carts for each system though :)

    So it can't even do genesis/megadrive? So close! I'm considering an RS 97 handheld but this looks higher quality...but if it can't emulate as many things then...idk. At least I can change the firmware on the RS 97

    This thing looks awsome, love the design!
    But for 100 bucks, I think I would stick to a modded GBA tbh.
    Why? Well, the main reason for me, because it can also play Gameboy and Gameboy Color cartridges, unlike this one. But if you dont give a poop about that, yea, would say this is a great alternative!!

      I'd say the one major thing I would like to have is USB-C for charging. I can see why they didn't but it would be nice to have for no hassle charging.
      This thing is basically a Gameboy Micro. I like the SP for its portability, but the originally GBA does fit the hands better. I do like that you can at least swap out the battery, it is at least a good alternative.
