    Hi, has your pre-filter got a uv light in it or do you not need a uv with a bog filter? Thanks

    • @GingerFishyOfficial
      @GingerFishyOfficial  2 месяца назад

      Hi there! The pre-filter doesn’t have a uv. As long the pond is balanced, and has sufficient filtration, plenty of plants and is not over-stocked, you shouldn’t need a uv.
      With a properly sized bog filter you shouldn’t need a uv. You can always add one though if you struggle with green water.

    Would that canister filter be big enough for a 6ftx3ftx3ft pond?

    • @GingerFishyOfficial
      @GingerFishyOfficial  2 месяца назад

      I think it might be a bit small for a pond that size. Are you planning on running it into a bog filter, like in this video?

    Looking fantastic mate. I've been tinkering over the weekend. Been feeding wheatgerm to mine for the last month since water hit 10 degrees.
    Do you reckon the algae comes from a drop in kH over the winter months, organics and lots of rain water 🤔

    • @GingerFishyOfficial
      @GingerFishyOfficial  Год назад +1

      Thanks mate, can’t beat a day tinkering on your ponds.. weather seems to be finally getting there now as well.. nice for the bank holiday!! Not too sure about the algae in relation to kH.. will have to look into that one! Is that something you’ve found? 😁

    • @matthewsmith22
      @matthewsmith22 Год назад

      @@GingerFishyOfficial it's something I've always wondered. I always turn all the pumps off for the winter months then when I turn them back on in spring the algae clears up, I used lime stone in the bottom to create my void and helps buffer my soft water. I also leave a bit of water above my gravel to grow algae in, in my head it works a bit like an algae scrubber, could be wrong though. I just aim to have all my organics and solids in the bog.

    I have a barrel wildlife pond that i made this year and it has made me want a to have another barrel pond but this time with some medaka rice fish, is it too late in the year to start one?

    • @GingerFishyOfficial
      @GingerFishyOfficial  11 месяцев назад +1

      No, i don’t think it too late.. the fish will still have time to acclimate. The plants probs won’t look there best til next year, but they’ll still look good and will be fine to go in now. 😊

    Great video. Thank you ,lots of useful information here. I am pleased to see Mo is doing well after the winter. Please could you tell me the name and make of the " flucculant," and the bacteria you put in.
    P.S. were your feet cold ? 🥶

    • @GingerFishyOfficial
      @GingerFishyOfficial  Год назад +1

      Thank you, Suzanne! The name of the flocculant i used was ‘Rapid Clear Flocculant’ from the company ‘Aquascape’, and I got it on the waterfeature.shop website. The bacteria I used was the Evolution Aqua ‘Pure Pond Bomb’, which you should be able to pick up from any good pond shop. I can confirm that my feet were indeed cold..🥶

      @GingerFishyOfficial Hi ,A lady had suggested me using solar power to a comment I had made about my pond being far from the house.
      Please could you advise me : I have 3 goldfish inside in a smallish tank ( they are only small,) ,I have had to put a partition down the middle as one goldfish is bullying the other 2. I have just finished my pond today making my filter EXACTLY the same as yours. 😊🐠🐠🐠 my pond is about 1000 litres. I have put a little heater into the pond. Do you think tomorrow I could put my fish into the pond ? Will they be ok as they have been in a tank in my kitchen all winter. I suspect they have gone a bit soft as I talk to them and hand feed them everyday. But their tank is just far to small for them. This is the first time I have ever had goldfish. 🤔🙄🐠🐠

      @@suzannemoran7281 they should be good to go in, the weather has definitely warmed up a fair bit now.. do you have any way to check the temperature of the water in the tank and the pond? Ideally goldfish don’t like a change of more than 3 degrees with in 24 hours. So as long as the temp difference isn’t too much more than that, they should be all good, especially if you do a good acclimation for them.. So the diy filter build went well then?! Good luck with moving the fish into there new home!! 😊

    • @suzannemoran7281
      @suzannemoran7281 Год назад

      @GingerFishyOfficial Hi ,yes I can check the temperature. I will do that. The only thing that I forgot to buy was a couple of items on the water in pipe. I don't have a check valve or a one way flow valve that you have on your , water into the filter pipe., So I don't know if mine can flow back into the pump or pond.
      Other than that my build looks exactly like your build. I am very happy with it. 😊

    HEY I CANT FIND YOUR VIDEO WHERE YOU TURNED A BIG GREEN GARBAGE TUB INTO A POND FILTER? WHERE DID IT GO????

    • @GingerFishyOfficial
      @GingerFishyOfficial  Год назад +1

      Yeah, I took it down. . someone (another RUclipsr) told me it was an awful design, would kill loads of fish and waste a lot of peoples money if they tried to recreate it.. I still think it’s good, but as it’s not yet hooked up to a pond I can’t be 100% certain.. But, I am currently building the pond it will be going on, so once it’s done and been running for a while I’ll re-upload it.. assuming it all works well. Bit of a nightmare really, i spend ages on that video, and it was the most amount of views I ever got in such a short amount of time.. 😣

      @@petra2885 thank you, I appreciate that. I think I probably over reacted a bit when I deleted the video… I just panicked when he said I was going to kill loads of peoples fish! I’m working on the big pond video at the moment so will be showing the filter and how I built it in that, and will probably re-upload the original video once the ponds been running for a while. Thanks again. 😊
