One of the worst things about cheaters is that it poisons the well in normal games as well. Every time the opponent is just doing slightly too good, are they using a mild cheat and just hiding it? One thing to keep in mind is that developers usually do ban waves. Instead of banning one cheater at time, they ban thousands of cheaters at once. The reason behind that is that if they ban only one player, that player might report the ban to the cheating engine developer, so they can develop a work around. If the game bans everyone in a ban wave, there will be a window of time with less cheaters in game, since it takes time to find a work around.
Also by doing waves it obfuscates exactly what triggered the detection. I loved going to cheat sites and seeing the post everyone makes after getting their accounts banned in games.
This is nonsensical and Valve has never done this. Also it's pointless. What's the point of banning cheaters after they have ruined the game for hundred of hours in a row? Then what? They can just make another account and do the same thing until next wave.
ban waves are bullshit. valve publicly stated how and why they did ban waves in the past. its so "people dont know which cheat got them banned" and that they were allowed to cheat for 6 months before they were banned. which only ruins the game for legit players. 6 months of uncontested cheating.... that's insane. and since most valve games now are free (cs:go after update, cs2 has always been free, deadlock is free currently) that means cheaters will just make another account and keep cheating with a different cheat engine that hasn't been caught yet.... its a never ending cycle of shit.
Deadlock is NOT free to play! Only fully unlocked accounts can access the game, and your steam account only gets unlocked once you spend 5 bucks on it. Yes, that's still little, but means cheaters who get new accounts to keep cheating actively pay valve. That's extra money for them to spend on upgrading their AC
@@Nichtzukennen I have over 2000 hours and i've only met 1 cheater and he was super blatant with his aimbot and walls. Compared to other hacker infested games I've played like Deadlock, Cod, or CS, Valorant's number of hackers pales in comparison.
I thought the frog thing might have been a stunt as well, but I just finished a match where an aimbot Vindicta got caught in the act. The match got disbanded (same "You can leave now" notice you get when somebody abandons) and a popup polling me whether I wanted to frog them or not. Unfortunately people didn't vote for the frog :(
what sucks is in the hero labs magician makes it ambiguous. someone got perma-frogged and they were saying they just got bugged into being in the frog state forever, and it was honestly up in the air whether it was true or not.
It's not a stunt, it's just the cheat makers get better at finding the workaround for the anti-cheat. Also it seems like it plagued certain regions, so it could be based on certain servers that has lower real-time detection capability. Valve don't have intrusion detection method like others. They used their own server using algorithm and AI to detect cheats.
@@nousagi7779 Valve is notorious for not updating their anti-cheat for their games and being complacent in widespread cheating. In TF2, for almost FIVE years straight, matchmaking was unplayable because you would guarantee get at least 5 automated cheating bots in your game, bots who proceed to vote kick all human players. it got so bad to the point that the only way to play the game was through community servers and third party applications. This 5 years STRAIGHT of unplayable matchmaking was only somewhat recently fixed through an online, multinational protest (save.tf) in which a petition of 340k signatures was HAND DELIVERED TO VALVE HQ.

I never thought I'd say this, but I really think there's no way around game streaming for multiplayer games in the future. Games running in a datacenter on a machine those poor cheating POS have no access to. I really love being able to play on my own machine, but I'm really out of ideas how to prevent cheating when cheats have full access to the game on the PC. The only alternative would be that they start to sandbox and containerize games heavily with no access for the owner of the machine, but who really wants that, idk...
I've only ran into one cheater, or at least a blatant cheater in my games. It was an ivy on the other team named John Deadlock using that speed hack to fly around the map in seconds. I and I know almost everyone else in the game reported them. I even reported them through their steam account, and they still haven't received a ban, despite already having one from close to half a year ago.
That frog thing would not be a PR stunt. I fully believe that's one of their technical team having fun with building an anti-cheat system because it was meant to be a temporary solution anyway. I agree with you on every other point, but please keep faith with the devs. DeadLock very much looks like a game born from love, so just...trust.
smarter cheaters are good at hiding what they do. I had an infernus cheating against me in a solo lane last month, and I was just not sure if he cheated until I watched the replay. He was zipping all over the place when no one was looking. The thing is, if he cared he could’ve even thought about the replay and you know what, I’d probably say “well he just might have a good aim” and brushed it off. So I’m thinking there are probably even more people cheating, we just cannot tell because they’re smarter, and cheats nowadays have features to make aimbots etc. look more realistic. That Infernus I laned against already had a VAC ban, from CS apparently. But previous VAC bans don’t stop cheaters from getting into free playtest. Besides, that guy got taken out of the playtest, but no VAC or any bans. I appreciate Valve for making Deadlock playtest pretty much accessible to anyone but in its current state, it’s just free roaming for cheaters. Just invite your alt accounts to playtest and you’re done. I’m saying this aside from the software problem which is an anticheat doesn’t do anything because it’s probably rather less aggressive for the time being. So unfortunately it’s not only anticheat problem, it’s also getting away with cheating in a playtest scot free problem, along with how easy to get in.
I would agree except that would be cruel in the case that you couldn't tell if someone was intentionally inviting a cheater or if they were just not aware their friend was cheating.
Perhaps have their invite privilege revoked instead And maybe if multiple of their invites are cheating then ban their invites and make them get re invited from another source
Sounds good in theory, but we need to consider the "seven degrees of separation" rule. If we think of invitations as handshakes, banning people based on one or even a few levels of connection could easily be exploited. Cheaters could use intermediary accounts (or several layers of them) to shield their main account from getting banned. For such a system to be effective, it would need to employ analytical methods to identify and target the true "root of the evil."
I haven't had TONS of cheaters in games but I have had a solid number of blatant cheaters and coming from CS, Valve would need to entirely overhaul their approach to Anti Cheat development if they want Deadlock to succeed.
Listen, Gabe needs a 5th boat and he's not getting that by giving gamers boring shit like 'a proper anti-cheat'. That's for dorks. We're getting skins and loot boxes. Set sail for Antigua! Ahoy!
Im phantom and I see a cheater in every game or other game when I play with friends. In ranked or with just 1 other friend, I don't see many hackers. @eebbaa5560
2:29 I believe we got a ranked mode this early so they could get data for how to distribute skill levels through the ranks. You'll notice that each week there's fairly large changes within the distribution. I think this is also possibly why we only have soloq for ranked atm.
This week i played like 10 games, 4 of them had obvious hackers, and 3 of them i realized they hacked after the game, when i saw that like 80% of their gun damage was headshots. Which is why i stopped for now, it is so bad... :/
I would argue that not banning cheaters right now is actually not that bad. Maybe after X number of games but by having a bunch of cheaters valve can evolve their anti cheat in the background so that on release the anti cheat is so far ahead of cheats that it will take a while for the cheat makers to get there
@@thewickedtyrant8306 Oh, no, they're working emergency hours rn for sure. Ban waves are smart, and it sucks that it's the way it is right now but the developers love this game to bits. I'm trusting the process here
I 100% agree that this need to be addressed immediately, loved Cycle Frontier but cheater ruined it and the devs slow action and lazy on anti cheat killed it instantly
I LOVED The Cycle! Cheating problem became blatantly obvious to me when I had been hiding in a dark corner of a small building waiting a few minutes to extract and some cheating loser throws a grenade from far away into the room I was hiding in and killed me.. Then I started paying attention more and realized that like 20%+ of the population was ESPing, just like every other FPS game right now. Absolutely horrible in Rust too.
Just the other day I had one of the worst kinds: a smart cheater. If you watched him while laning, jungling, even dueling, everything would be fine. But every so often he would get a kill entirely locked in on someones head. Bro literally had two different aiming levels
As a cs2 player I was already prepared for this to happen to deadlock but I saw a cheater turned into a frog, it was just once but at least I saw it, instead of csgo which I have been playing since 2018 and only see cheaters geting ban in faceit
It's crazy because as a pretty low skill player (initiate 3) I have almost 100 hours and I haven't seen a single cheater yet. At least, not an obvious one, someone could have been using subtle hacks. Not that I don't believe this video, I just find it interesting that my lower skill makes my matchmaking... Better?
100 hours, met two of them recently in ranked. One said that he played already 300 mathes with cheats and Valve doesn't care. Also, we made the mass report, but nothing happened
So back during the save TF2 petitions it was pointed out that cheating is something EVERY major multiplayer game, especially shooters, is struggling with and that Valve would need to get their shit together if they wanted Deadlock (at the time Neon Prime) to succeed. Valve knew this would be an issue coming into it, and have shown with TF2 that they are at least capable of doing something when they have people working on it. Generating a bit of buzz around it is the best way to draw attention to the problem and get those people working.
For 70 hours i met only 1 cheater in deadlock He was banned for 2 hours after a match. I reported him and sent a ticket in their discord server I hope valve will do something about obvious cheaters. About custom skins: Yoshi said that after release of the game (or their introduction of skins into the game) they will close the possibility to replace character models to custom ones.
Been playing exclusively Vindicta for almost 400 games, got called sus or cheating a couple times in the last 2 weeks. People are on edge right now, when you hit some good shots, they immediately assume you are cheating.
I only encountered one cheater. He uses Vindicta. I noticed that the player cheats when he can shoot the soul orbs accurately. The true fact that they are cheating is that they cannot be hooked by Bebop. I was already near Vindicta many times and she still cannot be hooked. The crosshair is already pointed at her and the hook does not land.
The very first Deadlock game my friends and I had was against a Haze player that had an invisibility cheat with aimbot. It was a terrible first impression for us. While I (and two other friends) would go on to play more and fall in love with Deadlock. Some of my other friends refuse to give it another chance. And given Valve's track record with cheating, I don't blame them.
Not to mention they could check the invite tree, check who hacked and who invited who to properly ban. Valve does a slow hit like that, check last year christmas present in dota, Permaban Coal.
I'm sure Valve wont do shit , just like CSGO/CS2 TF2 and even Dota2 you mention The reason they fixed Dota2 map hack just bcuz the map hack is base on a game bug , they fixed that bug than map hack wont working anymore
Thank you for making this video, I thought it was an isolated issue for asia servers since these areas usually have cheaters in other games (CS & Apex specifically for me) 2 days ago I was playing ranked and there were these 2 same cheaters that usually are on opposite teams that just kill everyone except eachother and basically hold the game hostage so me and 9 other players were just either trying to push down a single lane to end the game or just afk until the cheaters got bored. This happened several times in ascendant-eternus ranked matches and after a quick tracklock check they were doing it the entire day. I really hope they do something about this quickly because these were just the blatant speedhacking aimbotting cheaters. It makes me wonder how often I'd catch subtle cheaters if I watched every replay.
Games I've stopped playing because of cheaters: (games in strike-through have shut down) • Team Fortress 2 (2-3 blatant spin-bots literally every single lobby, and Valve dgaf apparently LOOLLLL) • Rust • Counterstrike 2 • ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶C̶y̶c̶l̶e̶:̶ ̶F̶r̶o̶n̶t̶i̶e̶r̶ • Deadlock The FPS genre is honestly dead because of cheating.. In ranked games I get a blatant cheater about every other game on average. The Cycle: Front was probably my favorite game on this list, and the devs couldn't find a way to fix cheating before the population abandoned the game. Been sticking to more chill, non-FPS and therefore cheater-free games like Dota2 and Oxygen Not Included.
I think the game being an alpha playtest is actually an even stronger case for getting a more robust anticheat system in place; you can't exactly get accurate data and feedback that reflects the game's current state if people are just cheating.
the only reason i want Division to drop a good game is to bring u back to your roots, i still remember your lone star build. it was my first 6 piece set
I feel like this is a golden opportunity for valve to begin crafting an effective anticheat system. The game is still in alpha-this is literally the point when they’re supposed to be developing core features, and, imo, anticheat should be a core feature in any competitive game. If valve was smart they’d use the cheaters against themselves and take this time to begin building the anticheat, so by the time the game releases, it will release with robust anti cheat measures already in place, helping make the game launch much more smoothly.
I had heard at one point that they used the fourm system to provide this feedback rather than people making videos about issues first. This was early on, so I don't know if they changed policies.
I’ve been accused of cheating for moving too fast on Warden, for too long. I had Fleetfoot, Diviners Kevlar, and Used his 2 ability. The enemy claimed he was going to “review the vod” afterwards
So I am not crazy. I had seen an obviously hacking wraith when I first started but recently I played 2 games where the enemy wraith and infernus were very very weird....
Sometimes I worry that when I play vindicta with the current build I like I’d get accused. But luckily I lose that anxiety as soon as I try to assassinate someone and remember, right, my scoped aim sucks! And they get away with 50 health :(
5:09 hwid bans help but only deter the level 1 potential cheater. they're really easy to bypass on your own if you're even a bit above average computer wise and even easier to pay for a spoofer. theyll be back on an alt in 20 seconds with a completely fresh hwid fingerprint
I'm still low MMR for reasons other then my aim but I agree 100% When I played BF3 competitively we were a top team it really sucked to loose (down to the wire) and then months later find one of the opposing team's players gets a PBBan. When you're at the top level of a shooter it's really hard to tell as everyone is a laser beam with exceptional aim. I'm hoping with AAA developers taking the legal route suing the makers of cheats helps. Valve would you sue? Maybe something can be done with AI to help detect cheating. Valve worked with Open AI to "solve" Dota2 in the past. I would be OK with Deadlock having a price, requiring phone number linking, hardware bans etc. Does CS:GO have a problem with cheaters? It's a good place to look to see how Valve will handle it.
There was a Bebop in my Phantom game that was literally zooming around the map at insane speeds, and had obvious aimbot. No clue how he hasn’t gotten banned. Also he was being cocky so it was even worse
As a tf2 player, if they managed to fix that hellhole (at least cheating wise), I am confident that they'll fix deadlock. They may just be trying to gather data from the cheaters right now or something, idk.
I checked on TF2 maybe 2 months ago and literally every single lobby I joined was me and spin-bots... The game is dead and 90% of the game's pop is probably bots
I had the weirdest game. I don’t think anybody was using traditional cheats on the enemy team but we couldn’t kill enemy towers. Any source of damage to a tower would do two damage. We got one when we went to the walker, it would just heal up. Why would anybody cheat in that way? It was so weird.
One big piece of cheating I've seen a lot is lag switches. And it's one of the worst ones too because modern lagswitching doesn't affect teammates, meaning anyone could be doing it.
This most definitely explains why deadlock has lost about 70% of its average playercount. Obviously people have come and gone to see if they like the game or not but cheaters certainly don't help retain those players.
Devs / Game companys are fully involved in making and distribution of cheats. Its a business. They get monthly set amount in selling and distribution of cheats.
Even in relatively low elo, I haven’t seen anyone super obvious but I constantly feel off about certain opponents. They somehow know where you are or hit orbs before they spawn, it just sucks
they give out hardware id bans yes, or at least they used to. I have read a lot of people saying they got hwid banned for simply being toxic so i imagine cheaters will for sure get the same treatment
Why are there so many comments being like "well I haven't seen any?" Your experience is not universal, it's slim compared to 1000s of players no matter how many hours you have. Marco is a humble dude, I don't think he's "coping." I haven't personally noticed anything crazy yet but there's way more regions and mmr brackets beyond my subjective experience at almost 100 hours.
Totally agree, but they mostly met in normal games, ranked games usually are normal. Just Ranked trash system where would put you with 2 no Rank players vs full high rank team
The only way to stop cheating in any game is to prove your ID to the account. Once you get caught you're out for good. But then a game that costs money would make dev's loose money which is why I've stopped playing Rust and now playing this but like you said, it's still alpha and free to anyone so cheating is welcomed
people would get punished if 3 others reported them for toxicity meanwhile i'm seeing cheaters that everyone in the lobby reports days later with no consequence and vac bans on their steam for other games

If the game bans everyone in a ban wave, there will be a window of time with less cheaters in game, since it takes time to find a work around.
yep and it's harder for the cheat developers to pinpoint what got people banned
Almost every shooter is plagued with cheaters now a days

The match got disbanded (same "You can leave now" notice you get when somebody abandons) and a popup polling me whether I wanted to frog them or not. Unfortunately people didn't vote for the frog :(

It's not a stunt, it's just the cheat makers get better at finding the workaround for the anti-cheat.

Thanks for making a video on this. It's maddening to see blatant cheaters.
It's crazier to lose to very inconspicuous cheaters and then think there's something wrong with you
that vindicta skin was crazy
So unfortunately it’s not only anticheat problem, it’s also getting away with cheating in a playtest scot free problem, along with how easy to get in.
anyone who invites a cheater should get banned too.
I would agree except that would be cruel in the case that you couldn't tell if someone was intentionally inviting a cheater or if they were just not aware their friend was cheating.
Perhaps have their invite privilege revoked instead
And maybe if multiple of their invites are cheating then ban their invites and make them get re invited from another source
they are doing something along those lines
Sounds good in theory, but we need to consider the "seven degrees of separation" rule. If we think of invitations as handshakes, banning people based on one or even a few levels of connection could easily be exploited. Cheaters could use intermediary accounts (or several layers of them) to shield their main account from getting banned. For such a system to be effective, it would need to employ analytical methods to identify and target the true "root of the evil."
@@thewickedtyrant8306Except reddit has a megathread for invites, its not hard to get infinite invites from tons of different people.

I would argue that not banning cheaters right now is actually not that bad.

Thank you for making this video, I thought it was an isolated issue for asia servers since these areas usually have cheaters in other games (CS & Apex specifically for me)
2 days ago I was playing ranked and there were these 2 same cheaters that usually are on opposite teams that just kill everyone except eachother and basically hold the game hostage so me and 9 other players were just either trying to push down a single lane to end the game or just afk until the cheaters got bored.
Cheating in video games is a worldwide plague. All these games you mentioned are completely unplayable in EU and have been for a long long time.
Games I've stopped playing because of cheaters:
(games in strike-through have shut down)
• Team Fortress 2 (2-3 blatant spin-bots literally every single lobby, and Valve dgaf apparently LOOLLLL)
• Rust
• Counterstrike 2
• ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶C̶y̶c̶l̶e̶:̶ ̶F̶r̶o̶n̶t̶i̶e̶r̶
• Deadlock
The FPS genre is honestly dead because of cheating..
> New Valve multiplayer title
> It starts getting infested with cheaters
Just like any other Tuesday
CSGO cheating has been so bad that you are guarenteed to run into a cheater in every single premier match.
the only reason i want Division to drop a good game is to bring u back to your roots, i still remember your lone star build. it was my first 6 piece set
And they get away with 50 health :(
I have seen only a single plausible cheater so far. But this footage is wild. Holy shiz it's HvH all over again.
I played 3 cheaters today now i don't even want to play the game anymore

They did a study on fps cheaters.. if you play once a week, any game on any console.. you've met a cheater.
The issue is that since the game’s in Alpha it doesn’t have an anti cheat (as far as I remember), so it’s quite open for cheaters.
there is and you get banned
@ I do remember adding the “Frog or End” option, what anticheat is it using then? Vac?
Noticed some cheaters cuz they could see me through one way veils that only I should have been able to see through. kinda crazy
One big piece of cheating I've seen a lot is lag switches. And it's one of the worst ones too because modern lagswitching doesn't affect teammates, meaning anyone could be doing it.
hey guys, good news: you can now link your deadlock to faceit (without matchmaking yet)
I have been playing for approaching 100 hours and haven't personally seen a single cheater, but I hope that Valve will work on it
This most definitely explains why deadlock has lost about 70% of its average playercount. Obviously people have come and gone to see if they like the game or not but cheaters certainly don't help retain those players.
I hope the discussion about cheaters doesn’t lead to a removal of mods. Modding is not the problem
Correction: The game isn’t 100% free to play. On order to invite a friend on steam, they had to have spent at small amount of money.

they give out hardware id bans yes, or at least they used to.

Valve needs to do something about their cheater problem in literally all of their multiplayer shooter games. unaccaptable
people would get punished if 3 others reported them for toxicity meanwhile i'm seeing cheaters that everyone in the lobby reports days later with no consequence and vac bans on their steam for other games
A juiced out Haze who afk farmed 65k souls in 20 minutes and is now unkillable is far more scary than a cheater
