The TIP about rotor position PRE pull out of the distributor is PRICELESS for folks who have never done this ! GLAD you mentioned the CHEAP HEI issues with the cam gear, I have 2 DAVIS in vehicles and WAS going to go the cheaper route in next project UNTIL your remark
My 89 YJ 4.2 liter is going through the carb to Howell EFI change now but I didn’t know about changing the distributor until I saw this video. Can’t wait to get it back and start riding again.
DANG, glad I finally found another discussing this mod, the PROVEN technology & plug & play sold me but COULDN'T find others advice, when even emailing Howell I NEVER got a response back, want to do this SAME conversion with the DUI in a 94 F100 300 6 cylinder, just sub, since you said y'all use this on 90+ % of the conversions
I’ve had Howell on mine. Ton of issues the last month with the Duraspark injection and cannot get the jeep running. Just ordered up the DUI distributor. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for the video! Editing had issues but oh well, and would have liked this in two videos, so you could focus on one thing at a time to completion. Just a suggestion. Great products, I’m planning on getting the DUI distributor and I already have the live wires on my TJ jeep with a nice transplanted 360. I’m curious if the stock magnum FI from the early 2000’s would benefit being replaced by this fuel injection?
I'm thinking of having that done, wish you were closer so I could take it to you to do. I need my 86 GW to be reliable enough to drive it long distances. Do you know what the shipping to your shop from 90650 would cost?
If the goal is to optimize fuel economy while improving starting and running, would you recommend an aftermarket intake when converting to this Howell FI and DUI? Higher compression pistons? Rock stock 83 Wagoneer Limited, 360, stock AMC 4x4 drivetrain. Well tuned gives me 11 mpg highway. Also, any suggestions for a 4 speed OD automatic to replace the 727 TF ? (I have a stock AMC 4 barrel intake available.)
The D.U.I. website says "Not Legal For Sale or Use on Any Pollution-Controlled Vehicle in California". What do you use for vehicles that need tp pass Smog?
Hi Drew, I'm finally getting to this on my 86 GW with all stock ignition. Could you please clarify how you wired up the new DUI HEI Distributor so it works with the ignition and gets enough 12v power. I've heard to just use the same yellow wire from the ignition module. Then I hear to not use that, use something else with 12awg wire. Also read I could hook it up to the starter relay. Needless to say I'm confused and it appears I need to use a power and tachometer wire plugs as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, so it does not take my months to get back on the road. I've got everything from BJ's. thanks for your help.
Because of this video I've got the Howell EFI and DUI dist. Having trouble with tach reading. Learning it'll need a tach filter? Nothing mentioned here. My prob is fuel pump not pumping while turning over. No fuel
Steve, sounds like two different issues. We did not cover tach in the video, because Full size Jeeps never came with tachometers, Yes if you have a autometer or such, you may need a filter, it can create a back feed and cause running issues. The fuel is a different issue. The fuel relay gets it power from the computer. Your computer (where tied into the fuse box) does not have power on both start and run. Use a test light, make sure your power wire to computer (off fuse box) has both power in run and start
@@drewnorman5cobra thank you for responding. I am powered to starter solenoid (ignition side) has power at key on and turning over. Is when fuel pump stops. I have the Davis dist. Connection to tach side. Will try a tach filter next . seeing if tach reading is necessary for ecu to pump fuel. Forum said he connected to coil NEG. Fired right up. David Dist doesn't have a Neg ground. Tach filter is my best bet
Just did one on a 79 J20. Where do you hook in to "key power" for the ignition wire? All the electrical wiring is stock and i cant find anything that has 12v during run and crank that isnt on the coil circuit
@@chickensfloat7427 About into this too. Have the 360 engine requires 500~550CFM for its volumetric efficiency. I haven’t read anywhere these TBI can supply this to the engine adequately, though the vid here is instal on the V8 and I’m sure some of them he did were 360’s. Want to make sure I’m not missing a piece of info on this . Any thoughts on this point? Also, I have the 4BBL Intake and Know there is the adapter 4~2BBL, anything about this need to know? Like as it causes the linkage & air filter setup to sit wrong, then needs some silly MOD / drilling /chopping on it to make it sit correctly etc. thx
Howell EFI is a joke considering the current aftermarket EFI options. Most of which are a few $100 cheaper with much better performance and self tuning. A MSD ignition Box and a recurved Duraspark distributor are significantly better than a Davis Unified Ignition which is early 70s technology and prone to grounding out on the distributor shaft. MSD distributors use the same Hall Effects Trigger as the Duraspark distributor. So your claim that the Duraspark is junk is completely absurd. The factory ignition module is known for failure without warning but so is every other electrical part in any system.
everyone has an opinion. We have done all kinds of fuel injection, hundreds and hundreds of units. I like Howell (point of video). You say 100.00 cheaper, BUT then add a MSD and well thats null and void. Again, your opinion, I am simply putting videos out on what I Believe and have done 100's of times to help people out. But there is ALWAYS gonna be a poo poo person or someone that knows more.... on social media or you tube.

I've read Howell sucks at customer service. I'm learning the same. Sent email. Never got a response. Having tech trouble. Newly installed system

DUI. What a name.
I’ve had Howell on mine. Ton of issues the last month with the Duraspark injection and cannot get the jeep running. Just ordered up the DUI distributor. Thank you for the video.
Can you give an update?
I've got a 1977 dodge w200 with a 383 I've been contemplating on using this system with. Sounds like a fairly simple job
That is basically a stock 87 chevy truck kit with the exception of the t.b.i. adapter plate, correct modified to fit a jeep?
NO welding involved o2 sensor bung by FiTech part number 60012

I spent a lot of time at Pat's as a kid .
Do you have a sole video on the distributor install.
Can I hook up a msd box with all that stuff , will it run ok....???..😎✌

Is that distributor available with a CARB number for a 258?
Would you recommend the DUI for 96 F150 4.9L fuel injection truck ? I’m old school. This stuff all new to me
Throttle body injection? Sure that's an upgrade but Y'a'll need multi port
How much does this setup go for at your shop? I have a 79 Cherokee with an AMC 360 here in California.
What do you use for a filter housing?

Which is cylinder number 1 on the cap?
I started looking for the same info. DUI FAQ page says any terminal can be set up as the #1 based off how you choose to align the dstributor.
