GeneCARRASCA it's the music industry so congested and I think it is a disgrace that so many phenomenal songs from one republic do not get the credit and airplay. It's very difficult for bands to sell today. Although counting stars was a massive hit, and rightly so.

I said the same thing to my sister. Heaven or Las Vegas has been my favorite CD since it came out in 1990, but this knocked it down to the number two spot.
For me, the song represents a person unable to let go of someone they had in their life. And they are pleading to be let go....for that person to just walk away clean, and not look back so that he can let go. But, thats just me...and the song IS beautiful, inspiring...and in a way, very sad, and heart wrenching.
To me, the song is about staying faithful. Basically, the singer is saying that he is unintentionally creating other bridges away from his lover. He wants his lover to not allow him any bridge away from her, because she is where he belongs. She sets him on fire.

My interpretation of the song. This song is about letting go. Let go of a loved one, the idea of them, the hopes for the future. It is not easy ‘cause that person took your heart and you can’t help but building bridges in order to desperately reach them. So you get to the point where you even pray that person to burn them so you can move on. You still love them, they still set you on fire so you can’t “replace” them yet. I guess the only thing to do is to use that fire (love) to burn the connection (bridge) so you can move on. If two people care about each other, you will love one other again, in a different way. And maybe that’s okay. Acceptance, detachment and new beginnings. Right now I am the person who should let them go. I am trying…thanks if you read my words.

To me this song is about someone who went through a lot in life whether its relationship related or not, they went through something and now they have finally found someone they are willing to let in and see more of them but in order to do that bridges need to be burned and that person needs help in doing so. To me it's a love song about finding the one you have waited for to finally be who you truly are even if it means another fight.

I've been the girl someone didnt want go hurt and it hurt me even more than it would have if he had just told me right off the bat that he wasnt interested because he wanted his ex. There are plenty of tunes that symbolize Onerepublic. But this tune is why I love them. I spent a good chunk of my twenties with this tune and will continue to do so, thank you for them.
The song is just amazing in so many ways. And the video is so aptly shot. Throwing the old TV is like throwing away an old emotional baggage.... the memories of the lost love, the bridges that he keeps on building in his dreams, a sort of some false hope that he may get back to her in spite of knowing that it won't happen.... And finally he has learned to move on and throws away the old baggage and is asking her to burn the bridges down so that he can peacefully move away.... The lyrics of One Republic are on another level ❤️. Different persons may interpret the meaning differently. Sometimes even during different moods, you can interpret different meanings of their songs.

I was lucky enough to take my 2 best friends to see them and Sara Bareilles in concert, and it was amazing!!! Ryan has this electric energy that you can feel, and his voice is so calming!!! We are blessed to have such an amazing writer/ musician to witness. In a sea of meaningless words, his always have power. If you ever have a chance to see them live do it, you will not regret it :)

It could be a two part conversation with the future and the past, like forgetting past relationships, transgressions, things like that and discovering new relationships. It could be about a new love and seeking forgiveness from past sins? For example becoming born again, establishing a relationship with your heavenly father (God through Jesus Christ) and burning your past like with Gods forgiveness. It could also be about a pyromaniac that likes to burn bridges. Here is the long and short of it, a great family friend that has a wedding video company here in Tulsa (Redeemed Productions, look it up) put together an awesome preview wedding DVD with this song as the background. I looked it up on RUclips and watched it through my tear filled eyes. The song to me is just a backdrop to the real subject of the DVD. I watched the video out of curiosity, liked the song, the group is great and that's about the size of it. To me the meaning is about my daughter having one of the best days of her life and us gaining a great son-in-law and starting a new chapter as a family. I have bad news for you. Nothing worse than having things seem to go great and the woman you are crazy about walks away. You listen to a song like this and remember even decades later. Some things you never get over and a great song like this doesn't help, but, like you say, it;'s hard to stop listening.

Best song ever: Travelled alot, so when the plane starts going down the runway, I play this song to calm my nerves for all the overseas journeys, since 2014 (when this song was released).

Gims110 i know about songmeanings dude, they are merely opinions which people post since everyone has a different perception. But the saying "Burn my Bridges" actually means abolishing a good relationship between 2 individuals. Those interpretations can be extremely misleading
Thank you for explaining the meaning of "burning bridges" and you are correct, song meanings are subjective and who knows the exact context. It could be a two part conversation with the future and the past, like forgetting past relationships, transgressions, things like that and discovering new relationships. It could be about a new love and seeking forgiveness from past sins? For example becoming born again, establishing a relationship with your heavenly father (God through Jesus Christ) and burning your past like with Gods forgiveness. It could also be about a pyromaniac that likes to burn bridges.
Here is the long and short of it, a great family friend that has a wedding video company here in Tulsa (Redeemed Productions, look it up) put together an awesome preview wedding DVD with this song as the background. I looked it up on RUclips and watched it through my tear filled eyes. The song to me is just a backdrop to the real subject of the DVD. I watched the video out of curiosity, liked the song, the group is great and that's about the size of it. To me the meaning is about my daughter having one of the best days of her life and us gaining a great son-in-law and starting a new chapter as a family. I hope this helps your understanding from my perspective.

Mariela thats deep. Thats correct. We burn bridges so that all involved are no longer connected so that we can move on into the future. We can burn bridges from any connection.......relationships, jobs/careers, even places we've lived.
