When Frida sings "Would she care if you lingered, For another night? Wanna hold you tight, We could make it right" (starting at 4'22" in this video) it's just such a perfect blend of want, desire, pain, rejection, and longing. What a voice.

I haven’t listened to this song for many years, and listening again, with your comments, I wonder why I haven’t, as it really is a great song. So thank you for reminding me of how great it is. I am not sure where you got your information regarding this song from, but it is inaccurate (also your description mentions On And On And On). It was recorded on 13th December 1973 and was included on their Waterloo album, released in 1974. A sultry lead vocal from Frida, with the harmonious addition of primarily Agnetha but also B+B.

Thankyou Dereck great reaction to this TRULY hidden gem, I love any and every song written and sung by ABBA,but within all their beautiful and stunning catalogue of MASTERPIECES, some songs literally tear at your heart and suspend your belief in your reality and make you so numb with emotion, this song is one of many. One thing you learn as you travel through time and space with ABBA and you listen and appreciate their music is that no topic, situations and especially different types of relationships are denied nor left unexplored, this song may sound like a not so pure and a little naughty in its content ,but I see and hear a struggling relationship between a man and a woman being relieved by another woman who appreciates and genuinely loves the man in ways his partner cannot, a sad situation, I agree, with pain and torment for all and BOY doesn't Annifrid deliver to incredible heights the emotion and depth of these lyrics with her beautiful calm astounding voice with the music that carries you into that dimension and situation, I just love this song and it makes me emotional every time I listen to it .

Gonna sing you my love song (1974)
It is a beautiful vocal interpretation of Frida as the lead voice
and a very powerful choir when joined by Agnetha
It's one of the few early ABBA songs with one of the Ladies in lead voice
(second of Frida in two first albums)
It is a preview of what Frida will demonstrate with her leadership in the single "Fernando"
and later with "Knowing me knowing you" on Arrival
and "One man one woman" on The Album
is one of my favorites from the album "Waterloo"
after the homonymous and colossal "Waterloo"
    and the catchy "Honey honey"
at the same level as "Hasta Mañana" and
"Dance (while the music still goes on)"
I hope that soon the time will come for your reactions to
    Bang to Boomerang (1975)
    Tiger (1976)
    a cordial greeting from

    The story behind this song.
    Setting: 1969, Malbo, Sweden
Benny and Frida met in Malbo, Sweden for the first time.
Frida was on tour with Charlie Norman Band/Show. Benny was with the Hep Stars. Both groups happened to be eating at the same restaurant.
Benny & Frida saw each other, sparks fly.... time goes by...
Benny had a girlfriend. Frida saw that Benny's gf was not right for him.
Benny takes a trip to Paris. Benny offers Frida his apartment as she was looking for a flat in Stockholm, while he was in Paris.
Benny returns to Stockholm and Frida leaves his apartment.
Boom! Benny realizes he in madly in love with Frida.
Benny had a hand in writing the lyrics.

    • @danbike9
      @danbike9 2 года назад +2

Benny and Frida were seriously in love. During touring season, both Frida and Benny were on tour with their respective bands.
After Benny was finished with his gig, he would make certain he left a message at Frida's hotel reception desk for when Frida checked-in.
Frida would then expect Benny at a particular time. The next morning he would drive to his next gig. Frida would go to her next gig. And Benny would drive that night to Frida's hotel.
      ABBA: When Four Become One
      Producer/Narration: Carl Magnus Palm
      _____
The hot and sexy couple in ABBA was Benny and Frida. Particularly because of their long engagement and their flirtatious ways on stage. And both had great smiles. They were tabloid gold in the Euro mags.
The bookend songs for Frida and Benny (beginning and divorce).
I'm Gonna Sing You My Love Song
      &
When All Is Said And Done
And the song she sang looking back at their relationship: Like An Angel Passing Through My Room.
Frida on a Euro radio interview was asked about 'Like An Angel Passing Through My Room'. She said that was a bitter sweet song and had Benny on her mind when she sings.
Recently, with ABBA Voyage interviews, etc ... Frida says she still loves Benny as well as Ragnar (60's) and of course adores her late Prince Heinrich who died of cancer in 1999.

My fave abba ballad of course from 1974 and an album track a bit overlooked between Waterloo Honey Honey and Hasta Mañana and King Kong Song etc. Not the typical abba sugary pop ballad but way more sophisticated in song and singing with splendid solo vocals by Frida. So sensual. Could have seen this as a good contribution to the Voulez Vous album… sigh. I especially love the bridge of the song where it’s almost jazz pop or r&b ballad or west coast… whatever but not the typical abba Schmalz like on My Love My Life, I‘ve Been Waiting For You or Andante Andante. This one always does it for me, big time. And yes I’m a sucker for Frida‘s sexy vocals…

Ah, at last Dereck gets to this one. Reckon this is one of ABBA's most underrated numbers. It's weird when Björn says that ABBA were 'trying to find their sound' when they were struggling to find a successful follow-up single to 'Waterloo' . They were trying to get an identity with their flirtation with Glam Rock when they already had a classic 'Pop' song like this sitting on the same album. It's not as polished as later numbers and their Swedish accents are much more evident but there is a charm in that too.

You got mixed up. I suppose On and On and On is next. Gonna Sing You My Love Song is a brilliant song, I remember when I heard it for the first time maybe 15 years ago.

Dereck. You have been listening to ABBA long enough to tell the difference between Frida's and Agnetha's voices. Also, "it's the 90's"? ABBA were not active in the 90s. This song is from 1974. Come on.

I believe he might got a little confused cause Frida is very young("Abba-wise") here and voices do change year by year. Also Agnetha's voice doesn't sound excactly the same in lets say "Disillusion" or "Dance(while the music still goes on")1973/'74 as in "Τhe Winner takes it all" and even "Thank you for the music"1980/1978 imho.As for the time of the song's recording he must have been misinformed or smth. But neverthless,i notice each now 'n then, he is usually very accurate and even the Photos he uses on Abba's reactions are of the same era each song was recorded.

@@alexioverdo5225 Yes, there are some songs where Frida's and Agnetha's voices are different to distinguish. But here in this song it is so clearly Frida, that you normally can't confuse it.

@@Lisa-M Hi Lisa,so nice to hear from you.Well i can't say you are "wrong".It's just in my nature that sometimes i tend to wear out every possible thought so to excuse someone's cause of missunderstanding that leads to inaccuracy since i'm not sure if someones faulty estimation is done on purpose or not.ha!ha!That's all.

@@alexioverdo5225 Thank you.🙂 Haha, okay. ^^ But I can remember that Dereck also couldn't say who is the lead singer of "I Still Have Faith In You" but he knew that "Don't Shut Me Down" is Agnetha. So when he is able to identify Agnetha's voice he should be able to identify Frida's voice, too, I would think. 🤔😁

Is that Frida singing? How do you not know that by now?
Just listen!!!! Pay attention!!! It is not hard!!!
Agnetha sounds like a pop singer, and does does use diaphragmatic breathing, etc.. Has thinner notes, narrow punch powe. Very popish.
Frida has a full round warm timbre and has mastered diaphragmatic breathing. Frida has broad power and lots of support. She sounds like a classically trained vocalist not a pop singer. She is the groups pro vocalist and front and center performer entertainer pro.
Agnetha is great, but sounds like a standard chest voice pop singer like most pop singers. Nothing wrong with that, but she does not have refined technical skills.

    Re: Stig, THE BOSS
Benny & Bjorn were not the boss. BB worked for Stig Anderson/Polar Music. Stig hired BB in mid 71 to be Polar Music house producer's. They were writing and producing for lots of artist too include Lena Andersson a top rank vocalist. Lena plays a part in ABBA's history.
Frida was the huge get by Stig Anderson Polar Music in 1972. And a huge get for a pop group.
She was hesitant to join a pop group, a comedown from vocal centric genre's for which she came. Pop was less challenging, but more lucrative.
Frida left the foursome after their cabaret shows winter of 70/71. It took Stig over a year and a sweet contract deal to get Frida to commit.
Stig then eventually named them ABBA. Stig Anderson/Polar Music was the boss, but Frida had all the power. She knew her value. She knew the business. And in 1972, she got a lucrative deal. ABBA was born.
Stig was a songwriter, musician, sometime performer and a hit maker. All his artist and songs dominated the Swedish charts in the 60's. He is an icon in Sweden.
He put Sweden's popular music on the map. Wrote all of ABBA's early lyrics, before Bjorn took over. Read those song credits. Stig's name is on lots of early and mid ABBA songs for a reason.
    His companies that he formed:
    Sweden Music, 1960 (publishing)
    Polar Music, 1963. (record label)
Like Anni-Frid Lyngstad told the world at the RockNRoll Hall of Fame induction ceremony... Paraphrasing -
Stig was a great guy, the 5th member of ABBA and without him, we would not be standing here tonight.
Good on Frida. Of the core four members, Frida never forgot Stig and what he did.
Today, The Polar Music Prize is named in Stig's honor.

    Rutger Gunnarsson

    &
ABBA's loyal top rank session/touring musicians.

    ABBA:Bright Lights Dark Shadows
    The Real Story of ABBA
    By Carl Magnus Palm
The dark shadows part is when they went from a foursome (70/71) to a threesome. They lost Frida after the cabaret shows winter of 70/71. The group was done. Stig then worked and negotiated with Frida, who was basically a free agent. EMI Sweden wanted Frida to re-sign/extend her 1967-72 solo contract as they had plans for Frida. So did Stig, but he had to get her under Polar Music as a solo artist.
ABBA almost did not happen. Then in 1972, Frida said yes to joining a pop group and she was all in.
Known as very detail oriented and a perfectionist.
