This guy is off to a good start. I don't think it's unrealistic to get a "job you love". Finding a job that's tolerable is more realistic. Just find something where you can find contentment. A new Camaro? Really? He'll regret it later once the honeymood period is over. A classic I could maybe see but wasting money on an asset that loses value rapidly is only going to teach him a lesson in lost opportunity costs. Travel though is a great idea. Having been around the world, I can say it's been some of the best times ever.
@@michaelrobertson1736 How much can you "enjoy" a car? Travel isn't about making an investment. It's about the experience. This is why we save money, so we can go out and fill our lives with memorable experiences.
@@dr.elvis.h.christ It all depends on what you like. There are people (like me) who don't like travel and have no interest in it. Frankly, I don't see why anyone has an interest in it, but that's just me. On the other hand I wouldn't buy a new Camaro either, but if I had the dough I'd buy a 1957 Chrysler 300. I had a 61 Imperial and I loved to drive it and work on it. I don't know what kind of work you can do on these new cars, so I don't know what kind of hobby a new Camaro would be.
@@RRaquello There is something about classic cars. They are a bit like pieces of art. Ya, my tastes would be different though. I'd rather have a '65 Imperial, or better, a '63 Lincoln.
@@dr.elvis.h.christ A 65 Imperial is nice. I'm a Mopar guy and love their cars from 55-65. Way back in the day my mother had a 65 Chrysler 300. It wasn't in the best condition because she bought it used and whoever had it before her had given it a weird Carl Scheib paint job, but I thought it was a beauty. Our family wasn't used to having a car with leather seats and power windows.
55, no wife, no kids. I spend $50k/yr, all covered by dividends. I earn $550k/yr, saving 100% after taxes. Net worth is $7M. I’m out - retiring early 2025. I will travel, slowly, indefinitely. Still, I did want a wife and kids but it just didn’t happen, and frankly if it had I strongly believe I’d be divorced by now. I really wanted kids.
"a job you enjoy and a sweet nice kind traditional wife girlfriend or whatever; it really doesnt get better than that" The real American dream. For men we don't necessarily need the big house the 3 cars etc etc, we only do that for women, and the country on average can't afford that any more and the women are psychotically pissed about that like theyre the only ones being shorted.
I just fined logs around town or at my siblings house when they cut trees. The post a beam part of it I have been doing since I was 9 my dad would take down old barns and we would sell them and put them back up. The thing that is killing me now is trying to divide my yard so I can get cash to get land in North Conway New Hampshire .
It's time for every man to look for bargain with decent saving plan. My friends and I are looking for steep discount in terms of cars as well as properties, as economy is not fully recovered. After hearing expensive divorce from my numerous friends working in hedge funds, men have to be friendly toward pets but stay nonchalant toward marriage.
I like the title. Several years ago I had a ring made for the wedding finger (because them 304s are scandalous). It is engraved with the phrase, "No wife, No Kids, No Pets, No Debts."
That’s fine if that’s what someone wants. I find it kind of shallow and materialistic. I didn’t incarnate to make money. I know plenty of rich single dudes that are miserable even though they won’t admit it and have no idea what to do with themselves. I’ve been married 30 years and have 3 sons that have accomplished much and now the oldest is about to have a kid. My genes survive and I won, while those that didn’t pass their genes along lost. It’s basic biology. My parents died and left all their stuff and house to us five siblings, which we split up and got a good chunk each. You can’t take it with you. You’re supposed to live your wealth and legacy to your family. What’s a single guy going to do? Leave it to the government? Why even bother accumulating wealth if you’re just alone? Do something actually meaningful.
That all sounds good but for a lot of guys anymore it's not an option, especially for the younger guys. Do you see what's out there? Would you want to breed with them? Me, I'm older like you and did have the options, or at least what options existed in the 1980's, but it all seemed like too much of a hassle and I quit the game after a while. Besides, I have brothers and sisters and left it to them to pass on the family genes.
"Meaningful" is a trap created by other people to trick you into working for THEIR benefit. Medieval Portugal was filled with dutiful husbands and fathers like you -- I dare you to name five of them. No? There's what "meaningful" gets you. You live, you die, you're forgotten, whether you have no children or a thousand. Concentrate on having fun while you're here.
Do something you enjoy, then when it gets very close to the end, donate it to something you respect which you have trust in, or in the absence of such, destroy your resources and end things.. Plus, your genes won, not you as an individual. All that you were is gone, except the genes you borrowed. Besides, it is inevitable that not everyone wins. Even 'losers' need a way to close things. As for why accumulate wealth, sometimes that work keeps you healthy and motivated much longer and wealth cushions you against others exerting power over you, which is its own reward.

What's even the point of earning wealth without anyone to pass it onto? Why even bother working hard... Might as well sleep around, party, and do hard deerugs before going out at 45. For me, I look at wealth as a basic necessity for any man worthy of calling himself a family man: provide for wife, raise grandchildren, and teach children how to repeat wealth-building habits while avoiding my mistakes.
