Loved the Dean Martin show . He had everyone who was anyone on . Roger was my absolute favorite . Still listen to these guys all the time . My 3 kids like them to .
Both these men were special and it is awesome to see them share what they had in common .... MUSIC!! Heartbroken to see what these earlier generations built is now crumbling :(
Brilliance!! Pure and simple. Everything today is based on hyperbole...bigger...better...more flash and dash. We could do well to remember the joys of simplicity
Roger Miller was a great singer, writer, entertainer and person. King of the road. Please don't dump him in the class of others you'd mentioned. His talent and expression was of the top of all.
Wayne Brady's predecessors? :-) I remember seeing an interview with Charles Nelson Reilly (who was a cast member on the Dean Martin show) who said that Dean Martin loved to improvise his show, that he hated sticking to the script. So Dean and Roger were very well suited to one another!
Gotfive5 Of course it was, but as you say that doesn't stop it from being entertaining. Even though Dean himself famously didn't like rehearsing, it stands to reason that the show itself had to have a general format as regards running order, timing, etc so that it didn't descend into a total chaotic disaster that nobody would watch. The fact that it was a top-rated show for 10 years proved that the formula worked, and I really don't understand the mentality of some of the people who have posted here who seem to find no greater joy in life than criticising the efforts of others like these extremely talented and gifted entertainers.
(Sorry for 2 replies) As someone mentioned above, this song came out on his album before this show. Nothing against Miller, it's not about him - that's just how network TV was run in those days.
Roger Miller was a musical genius. Smart as a whip and nice too. Gone far too soon. R.I.P. Roger. 🧨 P.S. To save you the trouble, here’s Part 2 (again 😎) ruclips.net/video/AvWyflixIBw/видео.html
if u havent subscribed to anyone yet try it - i found a good friend and he sends me stuff that is golden i never thought to listen to - he is a pro old Hoss -THANKS Mrs Crocetti u are also on my subscription list now --great post -
Hate to tell you this, but all these old variety shows were totally scripted. They always had cornball dialog and everything planned out ahead. Sonny & Cher, Smothers Brothers, Osmonds, Carpenters. That was just how it was done at the time. Totally phony... (to some of us it was too obviously phony, which is why SNL was such a breath of fresh air when it arrived.)
@@zachgates7491 what isnt? SNL was a breath of fresh air in 1975 because it was new. But in general it has mostly sucked. The Phil Hartman years were ok.
two brilliant entertainers! i love them both
Toujours le sourire et cette aisance bravo les deux rip
How lucky to have grown up with these amazing guys entertaining the world.
Holy Moly, I forgot how talenented Roger Miller was. He was really some kind of cat.
Loved the Dean Martin show . He had everyone who was anyone on . Roger was my absolute favorite . Still listen to these guys all the time . My 3 kids like them to .

Rodger was a real clever funny guy who had a gift for wacky songs that were also hits

Two brilliant entertainers
Now that is talent...not just creating lyrics for a two minute song, but playing a song at the same time...
Wish that could happen nowadays.
The guys on 'Who's Line is it Anyway" were quick enough to do this.

Two really fun and great entertainers.

Nothing more exciting than vastly rehearsed adlib.
Note Roger went to a harmony line when Martin joined in. Very talented guy.
"no dirty numbers..."

creative idols
genius-ness ha
Of course it was planned and this song was written beforehand he even says it, but that doesn't take away from the beauty of this video

Not so sure because roger didn’t care if he did flub it, he would joke about it and move on.
Pretty good for an ad lib!
at least Roger memorized his "improvisation"
Dont let him fool you no okie is that talented hes a fortworth Texas native
I don't think this is "country music". This is Roger Miller's music. That's why it's so fun.
Loved Colter Walls cover of this.
So funny, talented. Haunted by demons though
RIP Roger Miller
ZWEI GIGANTEN EINFACH HERRLICH
OMG wow Amazing!!! Just make's me wonder where this world went wrong....Technology Perhaps.
I'm Only 23
Great entertainment from a by gone era. Sad what we get today that they try and pass off as entertainment!

if u havent subscribed to anyone yet try it - i found a good friend and he sends me stuff that is golden i never thought to listen to - he is a pro old Hoss -THANKS Mrs Crocetti u are also on my subscription list now --great post -
this song was on Roger Millers album before this aired. Not to take away any genius of this man by anymeans. Just sayin. It's a wonderful album!
Did he improvise that!? No way they had to rehearse
Anybody know what kinda guitar Roger is playing? Thanks!
It's a Gibson C1 classical guitar
Um, Roger Miller had already written and recording that song... It's a joke!!! But, I do LOVE Roger and Dean!!
Ever heard of rapping?
This stuff still happens, it's just not televised, it's to classy for todays television I guess.
u got 2 dislikin this song
Dean Martin Wasn't Gay... Frank Sinatra Wasn't Gay... But, Thank God Sammy Davis Jr. Was...
It was planned.
K
Shame on you! If you can't something nice, don't comment!!!
I agree he was heads above the others, but still this bit was obviously scripted.
Oh, wasn't that fun !!!

This is more entertaining than SNL
