Yes, this movie is still creepy to me til this day. I considered it one of the scariest movies I had seen when I was younger. Horror movies with fake monsters and jump scares just don't do it compared to the possibility of alien invasions.
What an absolute travesty it would have been to leave out the score in this music like he wanted too.. It's one of the most unique scores for unique films matching together ever
Just listen to 13:39 or so the magic James Newton Howard did for the positive and religious aspects of the score...it's so incredible how the suspenseful/scary themes complement the beautiful cathartic themes like this in the move. They sound wonderful on their own as well
James Newton Howard is absolutely brilliant! I love his scores , especially the one he did for Barbra Streisand’s The Prince of Tides. Not only was the score passionately elegant and beautiful, JNH and Streisand wrote an iconic song that starts out with the lyric “Mornings…..evenings….days that hurried past, dreams that should have lasted.” Song is called Places That Belong to You. Exquisite
Signs is in my top 5 favorite movies. The story, the music score, the cast are all top tier. I watch it every chance I get. It's one of M Night's lines in the film that touches me the most "I know what I've done to you. I've made you question your faith. I'm truly sorry for what I've done to you and yours". Chokes me up every time.
Every single time I watch this film, I notice another detail! I just finished yesterday and noticed that the coal chute grate in the basement has tiny crosses all over it. This is where the fresh air is felt in the pits of the basement/despair, which can be symbolic of the faith that begins to be felt down there and begins to transform Graham. It's also where the last hurdle must be surpassed be begin that journey back to his faith (the alien is right there!) So damn good!
This movie is far and away my favorite movie. I love the acting, the atmosphere, the music, all of it is almost magical. I liked the fresh take on the whole alien visitation thing, the character arcs like the flashbacks to the car crash that killed his wife. Thank you for this, can't believe I've never seen this before!
I taught in a Catholic school for a while. One of the religion teachers used this movie to demonstrate how even a priest, in this case an Episcopal priest, can lose his faith and regain it and how God uses tragedy for a higher purpose.
There's an excellent video on the channel "Like Stories of Old" about the core of this movie being about the family coming back to God. I really liked this story you shared, it makes me glad other people were touched as deeply by this film as I was.
I feel more people hate this movie than love it. I for one LOVE this film...when i first heard of the backlash i was stunned. I understand some of the arguments...however, some are just stupid. They travelled to earth out of despiration for resources their planet no longer harbored. They were willing to take a risk. For once the Aliens weren't stupid looking, or to far fetched to even be plausible...even in outer space. Have yall seen some of the aliens in recent movies? They are truly 2 of my favorite films. I applaud M. Night Shyamalan.👏
@@FrigidHeights I mean yeah. I get that it has a symbolic meaning and all but still that doesn't change the fact that it is quite moronic of the aliens to attack a planet that is 2/3 water while that is their mortal weakness.
