- Hello everyone. Just want to give a shoutout to all of you who voiced your concern regarding my speed test video of the Tohatsu 9.8hp outboard, where my current boat began to porpoise, the Saturn ZK380. I am pleased to announce that the hydrofoil fixed the problem. Not only did the boat stopped porpoising, it also got into plane a lot quicker, and without me moving my weight forward to help it get into plane. I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing, but everyone who recommended it said it works great, and here is the proof if that. Thank you all for watching and I'll see you guys in some other adventure in the near future.

Love your happy laugh...and the stickers all over your outboard 😁 now you are a man beyond the total happiness 👌
Haha! You noticed the stickers. I plastered a bunch of Rick&Morty stickers into it.
Thank you Erick! I just ordered a 2022 Tohatsu 9.8hp 2 days ago, and just now ordered the SE Sport 200 Hydro fin. "SUBSCRIBED" :)
Nice!! My pleasure. I'm glad this has helped you help.
I love everything about this video. Congrats on this successful moment❤
Thank you! It made a good difference in the water
Delighted to see the hydrofoil working out for you. I’m about to install one as well.
Thank you. It makes the boat ride a lot smoother as well.
Very very nice one my friend! 💪💪👍🏻👍🏻 Love your happy sounding laugh too!
Dude, I was so happy that it worked flawlessly
First of all its great you got your boat sorted out. I also noticed looking through your channel, most of your high number views are all boat and motor related. I know you like to do random reviews on products but if you concentrated on boating, you might get some faster results. I don't know just a thought.
Thank you kindly. Since you've asked, I'll tell you what I want out of this channel. This channel began as a hobby, something to get my mind off of things that were happening to me back then. The channel has grown, and it continues to do so, but in the end this is my hobby really. It is slowly turning into a side gig which is cool, but I will treat it as a hobby in the end. There is always the chance that I may turn it into a business in the future.
@@ErickMartinSucre You're doing good so far. Hope this channel grows and turns into something you never imagined. Everyone's got ups and downs in life and where ever this channel takes you, I wish you the best.
Thank you kindly 😊
Good to see it all came together.
It sure did.
Made my day just seeing how happy you are.
😊 Thank you. Got a 2nd lease in life and making the best of it as I can. Thanks for watching!
Big difference with the hydrofoil! It makes a big difference!! 🤙🏻🤙🏻😎
It did. It cemetery change hownor rides and feels. So smooth.
Very useful Eric, thank you 😊
Glad I can help
NICE ONE ERICK cant wait till i get mine on the 9TH DEC THANKS
Great little gadget
Much better.. congrats🇺🇲🤠
Thank you very much! It makes the ride much smoother.
Thanks Erick !
You are very welcome
Wow that worked out well I hope to see some nice boats at the UK international boat show tomorrow I'll keep an eye out for the Tohatsu 9.8 and see if I'm strong enough to lift it. Nice vid !
Thank you! The motor is about 39 kilograms, so lifting it while keeping it close to you is important. Tighten your stomach as well.
@@ErickMartinSucre so after looking at lots of boats at the show today me and my father have decided to go halves on a honda honwave T38 ie3 and a Tohatsu MFS20. Engine probably more powerful than we need but the boat is rated for it so it's safe. Do you have the Honwave T38 over in the US and do people like them as they seem really popular over in the UK. Thanks 👍
A good choice actually. A lot of viewers from Europe have them. Here in the US you'll see more Achilles than Honwaves.
Well done!
Next last step (costless) is to find the best trim angle!
It depends from the load. As you know I own the same motor and on my 310 inflatable, when I'm alone, the best is 3rd hole from the bottom. When we are 2, it's 2nd. 1st with heavy load (it starts not to plane without J maneuver).
On yours, having an inflatable keel, alone it might also be best higher than 3rd.
You will understand when it's too much as the motor will start to cavitate.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the info. I currently have it on the 2nd slot.
@@ErickMartinSucre I guess for you alone it's better 3rd or 4th. Give it some tries... It might make a difference even if the greatest part of the job it's already done.
You may be correct.
you are very positive dude! i like your video. i'm from russia, i have same boat 380cm, and mercury f9.9 and hydrofoil se200. good luck buddy!
Thank you! Hope all is well in your end and stay safe.
I only lost about 1mph with a hydrofoil. My problem was cavitation and it totally fixed the problem.
I'll be ok riding at 18mph then. It gets into plane quicker, far less splashing from the back, and no porpoising.
Very cool topic (porpose-ing) haven't heard that term but new to dinghies...just bought my first one this week and considering tohatsu thanks for the vid well done 👍
Edited: oh btw I saw a custom foil installed on a dinghy at the shop I bought mine at...fabbed by the owner apparently he swears at how effective it is...fins added inside open tube ends to extend his keel if I have explained properly...
Yes, porpoising is when the front of the boat goes up and down. Mine needed the hydrofoil and have the trim tab placed in the #1 slot. You may not have this problem so I recommend trying the boat out as is and seeing if a hydrofoil is needed.
@@ErickMartinSucre I appreciate having the answer before I know if I have the :)
@@makinawake9178 Anytime. My Facebook group is called "The Muddy Feet Oasis". You're welcome to ask, share experiences and the such.
Hydrodoil works 100% I have it on my 15hp Mercury outboard and it has change my boat riding.
Yes, they may drop top speed slightly but they do help a lot. Thanks for watching 👀
Nice one man
Thank you
awesome Bro...I ordered one for my 20 hersepowa merc on the RIB
Makes a difference. I got one for my 6hp one as well.
Incredible vid
Thank you kindly.
Hello ERIK how are you ? good video What propeller and speed Thanks
I got around 20mph but I forgot the number of the prop. I ended up using the factory one that came with it
Just ordered on for a 15 HP Mercury 4 stroke for my whaly boat. Hope it fits!
It should. If I recall, this model fits outboards upto 40hp
Hey Erick, your tips and guides have been super helpful. Thank you! One off-topic question - have you ever experience any issues with Tohatus engines using regular fuel that contains ethanol? Is this something I need to worry about or just a myth?
You're very welcome. As for the tohatsus, no issues on my part. I put some Stabil in the gas, and I run the engine dry after I'm done with a trip. I usually stand in the dock waiting for the engine to die when I unplug the fuel line.
@@ErickMartinSucre Another great tip! TY! boat on and be safe out there!
Anytime 😊
Today was a good day.
😊😊😊
Nice!
😁😁
That's the perfect holeshot, no struggle whatsoever. Looks like a worthy upgrade. Does it also help make you steer the boat easier? Usually I have to mildly fight the steering going left and right with my 9.8. Also are there any problems when you transport the motor? I wouldn't want to damage it or the motors cavitation plate when lying the motor on its side. Thanks dude 👍
It was awesome. Steering was a bit stiff, but it did not push left or right. Iaid it on the car on its side with no problem.
@@ErickMartinSucre nice to hear! Perhaps the hydrofoil could even protect the propeller when transporting it. I will look into this product as sometimes when carrying extra gear that sits in the back, planing can be difficult. Thank you for the answers. 🙏
👍

GOT MY 9.8 WITH HYDROFOIL YESTERDAY YEEEEEEHAAAAAA
Nice!!!
Did you do a speed check on this run? curious if it was the same as without the foil...
I did forget to make a speed test
@@ErickMartinSucre ALL my motors are slower with the hydrofoil installed. Well worth it, though. The boat sticks to the water- even in chop-with the foil on.
The slowdown isn't dramatic- maybe 1 or 2 mph.
I'm ok with it. The ride is so smooth now
I guess the slowness is due to more drag
Quite possible, but it isn't that bad. The ride being smoother is worth it
can this be useful on a Mercury 2.5hp 4 stroke? would it do anything on such a small outboard? I dont have poirposing issues, just ventilaton issues at wide open throttle. Any advise or opinions would be appreciated. thanks in advance!
Not on small ones I'm afraid. They do make some for outboards 4hp and above but not the 2.5/3.5 hp ones.
@@ErickMartinSucre you are the best. thanks so much brotha!!
Anytime 😊
Wow…. A-mazing difference. How much was it?? Difficult to install?
This one was 65 sollars amzn.to/3E6ffja As for the installation, it is average. I made a video of it as well ruclips.net/video/2rI4sigPAg8/видео.html
I’m torn between getting a 6hp or a larger one like an 8 or 9.8/9.9. My boat is an 11ft with an air floor. I need portability (I sometimes have to launch from a beach without a boat ramp) but don’t want to sacrifice speed or the ability to plane. I usually go alone but occasionally have 1 other person with me. With that in mind, do you feel it is better to get a larger one like yours, or will the 6hp be sufficient?
Also, are you able to fully turn your engine back and forth with your foldable transom wheels, or do they get in the way? (I’m trying to decide what kind of transom wheels to get also).
Go for the 9.8. Much much better. I’ve had 2 6hps and could never get them to plane.
The 6hp Tohatsu I have is quite capable, and I still have it actually. I use it on my smaller Kaboat. The original prop of the Tohatsu 6hp is 7.8x8 and it gave me 16mph. I changed it to a 7.8x7 prop and that gave me 14mph with me alone in the boat, but it also gave me quicker acceleration, and I can travel with someone else in the boat going 10mph planing. The 6hp weighs 60 pounds, while the 9.8 weighs 86. Getting into plane with the 9.8 is no brainer. In regards to me turning, yes, I can turn fully.
agree, the 6hp is great for 1 person. Once you add 200 more pounds to the boat, you will want a 9.8/9.9
@dustinj7650 Very true indeed
This was a long time ago but I think I got some real improvement in both porpoising and planing by getting the stock hydrofoil in line with the bottom of the boat.
I think they had a diagram in the manual that showed the ideal and so I got the boat set up so I could see it from the side. As I recall I think I had to put a 1" (?) board that acted as a spacer and in between the top of the transom and the outboard so that the outboard sat about an inch higher.
It made a huge difference.
I bought an aftermarket hydrofoil but unfortunately I never put it on to report the results. Part of the reason I didn't is because aligning it as I explain above helped so much and having the aftermarket hydrofoil would have made it harder to transport laying on its side.
I intended to figure out some solution to this but never got around to it and like I said - doing that helped so much it eliminated most of the big problem.
I'm quite active here so I will always answer. I sold this motor and now use my Tohatsu 6hp. It workd better while using the #1 trim slot and hydrofoil. I'm still learning more and more
@@ErickMartinSucreyou sold your 9.8! That must have been a sad day. I guess that explains your Hankai 12hp!!
It was, I needed the money at the time. The Hangkai has been a great replacement so far.
Oh my gosh it's work nicely Eric... Eric can you give me info for me.. my is Suzuki 6hp...do they made for my Suzuki...??👍👍... it's work so good.. smooth buddy..
Thank you. This one is not for a 6hp. This one is for 8hp to 40hp. I believe they make one for smaller outboards. I'll see if I can find it.
Found it. It's called Dolfin amzn.to/3z1BNOu
Yeaaahh man
Woot woot!!
I’m interested in the welded seams that Saturn makes. Have they had any issues the seams leaking? Any issues with drain plug allowing water to come through while boating?
No air leaks. Sometimes water comes in if I leave the plug dirty. Once clean and free of sand it seals tight.
I wrapped the plug on my F-RIB with PTFE tape.
That's a good idea.
@@ErickMartinSucre First time we ever used it, it leaked. So a friendly fellow boater at the side of the river gave us his roll of tape. Never leaked since. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best! 😀
I agree
You seem to have a lot of reviews on different Saturn boats. Are you a local Saturn dealer?
No, just happen to befriend them a while back. I've owned about 4 of them, and sometimes they lend me a model for me to try.
How do you transport with hydrofoil on? Do you need to remove it prior to placing it in trunk?
No, hydrofoil are quite strong. I do, however, place a small cooler where I keep my spare air pump right under the bottom fin, keeping the outboard slightly elevated. I do this because I usually place a ton of camping gear on top of the outboard.
@@ErickMartinSucre thanks for the tip!
I'm glad I can help 😌
ive been looking for a fast one man dinghy i can put my 25 or 40 on thanks man
My pleasure. It performs very nicely.
How much does that boat cost?
This one costs around 1170, including shipping and taxes. www.boatstogo.com/13-performance-kaboat-zk380.asp
Problem solved! Great job Eric. She looks like she's running real smooth. Curious. Did the foil take anything off your top speed? In my past experience they always helped me plane at slower speed but i lost 1-3 mph off top end. But the sacrifice I found to be worth it.
I'll have to check top speed. I did not check the speed.
Is it possible to use it on a 5hp Tohatsu or is this not usable?
Not this one , no. The one that goes into smaller outboards is the one that uses 2 independent fins. Let me see if I can find the link and you can see.
amzn.to/3OlK6O2
@@ErickMartinSucre Thank you. The question is if it makes any difference on a 4
5 hp ?
@@alexanderrentschler542 Oh, that. Not really, you'll be better off swapping the propeller for different applications. Lower pitch for better acceleration and such.
@@ErickMartinSucre I agree with you. Now I bought a 7.8 × 7.0 for better acceleration with two persons and a 7.8 x 9.0 for more top Speed when I am alone. With the Serial propeller 7.8 x 8.0 planing is good alone and Top Speed is is about 23 kmh with my inflatable 3.80 m
I thought you sold your 9.8 tohatsu?
I did, back on 2022. Now I own a Hangkai 12hp 2-stroke instead.
Took you long enough lol jk. Imma need you to make videos faster sir. You will just need to postpone the rest of your life lol.
It felt like that a little bit, but I am finally catching up. Econlohatchee River visit is next.
