Amazing views of the progress of Dominique crossing the canal and lakes, how did they build a canal across a lake ???....and with the recent rain it can't get any wetter...🌧🌧☔....thanks..👍..
They built the canal 200 years before the gravel began to be dredged to create those lakes. From what I can tell from old maps, the valley bottom appears to have always been extremely wet with drainage channels criss-crossing the whole area. The canal, of course, is clay-lined but it must have been a challenge to keep the groundwater out of the excavation work. They started dredging the gravel up near Rickmansworth sometime in the latter half of the 19th century.
Where does the viaduct actually end ? On Easter Saturday I was talking to a security guard on the Moorhall Road site entrance gate and he said they were currently 2 months ahead of programme but 8 months away from completion. Completion of the viaduct thst is, not completion of Align's Contract.
@@TrevorWilliams-fq8mg I would say at the launching/finishing gantry after the final pier. .and there’s a short stretch of land until the mouth of the Copthall tunnel to deal with.
Fantastic and great views, and of Dominique at work. Also see Peter the Rock just posted today a few RUclips vids from the ground at adjacent narrowboat marina walkway, showing also real-time some of the pieces getting fitted in prior. Amazing times and great HS2 progress. Thank you for doing this.
Yes, that's me, Peter the Rock! Thanks for the shout out! All our videos compliment each other. Maybe I am the only one doing a view from the ground at regular intervals. Currently every three days. It's fun!
@@PetertheRock.Ha. Yes, we have the dream team of cuemaster, SIMONC, Peter the Rock and Stephen Walker (when he's out and about) to cover this monumental construction project from every angle. I'd also like to name drop Karl Vaughan who has been providing excellent footage from the other side of the Chiltern Tunnel.
Just an absolutely magnificent viaduct. Can't wait to see trains zipping across.
Me too! Though feeding the ducks whilst travelling in a sealed carriage at 200mph may be problematic!?!
@@PetertheRock. I'll just make some duck breast lol...
Superb work of modern engineering. It’ll look great when all of that temporary works clutter is cleared away.

Lets hope for some dry weather soon, i noticed coming along the towpath the fishermans path by lake savay completely below water! Thanks.

@@DaveFiggley Wow that's amazing that they could keep the gravel pits dry...such a interesting area...
The canal was already there when the gravel was dug out that formed the lakes
Looking good. The end is nigh.
The destination is in sight. 👍
😊
I wonder if 'Dominic' will come up on eBay 😊...
