Wow, I did not know this cast on had a name! My grandma taught me how to cast on like this over 50 years ago. Until I came across knitting podcasts I didn't know there are many many ways to cast on. How funny life can be.
Great CO, it's almost like my Irish Granny's with a twist. She use to wrap the yarn over two fingers and incert left needle into the loop creating a set up row to knit through for your ribbing and or other variations as in stockinette etc.,.
What about in continental ? It looks like something I would like to use, but I am a continental knitter. I love your teaching. You explain things so well.

I have the same experience learned this way and was amazed to learn there were others.
I’ve been doing this wrong! I’ve been going back into the stitch. I’ve learned so much from you! Thanks
Lol - I was stuck on a pattern and opened my iPad to search cabled cast-on, and there was my favorite instructor! Well-timed Jana, thank you!

How do I fix a dropped cable cast on stitch?
Usually if I drop a stitch during a cast on, I just begin again.
Thank you
