From a black man’s point of view: we like watching the exchanges between Larry and Leon because it’s fun to imagine a world where two men of different races can openly and honestly share their experiences and quirks without prejudice and racial filtering. The two men seem to genuinely enjoy one another as human beings who just happen to come from different communities and economic backgrounds. Imagine that.
I remember when they introduced Leon and his family and I'm like "shit, theyre out of ideas..." Kinda like when Oliver joined the Brady bunch or whenever they add new characters to sitcoms in later seasons... I couldn't have been more wrong. The show became even more brilliant than before lol..
I thought the same thing, but I'm kinda glad they got rid of the rest of the family, Leon was the star, even though there were some funny moments with auntie Rae. I always thought Cheryl was such a good character to play off Larry and enable him to be funny, but Leon absolutely blows her out of the water, and now I actually don't miss Cheryl that much.
My favorite moment that is Leon to perfection is when Vivica Fox breaks up with Larry. Her, her mother and kids tell him off, pack up and leave. Larry turns around and Leon is there watching. You are expecting Leon to tell Larry off and leave. Larry asks him what is he going to do and he replies "Im gonna go upstairs to my room and eat my chinese food." Hahahaha. He stays. So Leon.
Robert Thompson haha one of my favorite moments of the series. I was scared Leon was going to leave and his character, in my opinion, was the greatest addition to the show. He and Bob Einstein (RIP).
