George Thorogood was my first concert. They opened for Twisted Sister? Sold my Quiet Riot tickets the next day and started down my new musical journey. 30+ years jazz/blues drummer and now a blues vocalist and guitarist. Thanks Mr Thorogood for sending me on the right path! You Turned a boy from Bangor, Maine (1984) into a blues musician.

Saw him at the Anvil Inn, Kennett Square in late '76. Just "The Delaware Destroyers". He wore a derby and played three sets of Chuck Berry tunes. There was no stage, just a floor. A genuine showman. On a blind date with a college girl from West Chester. She met up with her boyfriend and left with him. Her name was "Babs".

Nice episode, his was the standout performance for me a Live Aid watching from the UK as it came from nowhere for me, assumed they must be a huge deal in the US at the time but the energy just blew everyone away.

So the first time I saw Joe was opening for BB at 12 and the second time George brought you out on stage I think about the same time and my wife and I were jaw dropped agog... I'm so sorry I'm not in Phoenix tonight... but I am getting a blow by blow from a friend who is! If I can score a ticket for tomorrow night I will be there!

One of the best gigs I've ever been to: George and the Destroyers at the Town Hall, Auckland, New Zealand in the late '70's, where he was popular long before he made it back home in the USA. (His 1st 2 albums were released on Rounder, an Australian label.) I was one of the 300+ who stormed the stage and joined the band for the encore.(George and the band stood on the drummer's podium.) Security turned all the lights, on but there was no chance of crowd control, as there wasn't anyone sat down in the whole venue. "The crowd went wild!!!"

Cool video! I just caught George Thorogood playing a local gig almost in my backyard in sw PA. He can draw a crowd on short notice and he is still such a great musician and entertainer!

I saw George Thorogood in Portland, Or the month that he first appeared on SNL the concert in Portland was canceled and I had to make a return trip for the concert a week or two later and it was reserve seating theater. The warm-up band was setting up when we got to our seats, shortly after we got comfortable George came out to the mic and made his apologies to us, and told the warm-up band that they could take the night off because he was going to play the whole night and he proceeded to burn the place down. I will never forget it he played for 3 1/2 hours it was awesome. Great memory.

It’s about time we see The Man back on the scene again. He never left us. The trends change, and blues was pushed kind of underground for awhile, but you’ll have a hard time finding someone who doesn’t know at least one of his iconic tunes. He’s humble, about being a “mortal” player, doing the best he can, and he’s real, and personable, relatable. A huge part of my youth as a young player. He’s a totally under rated player, but Joe is right, just those little fills in between lyrics, we’re just bad ass nasty gritty and slick. GT is an OG legend period! Can’t believe he’s playing epiphones now, he’s a workin class guy he should know how losing our manufacturing devastated our working middle class families. Hopefully they’re making his in the USA. He should IMO move it on over to Heritage, and get his real guitar back.. What an endorsement that would be…. I’m just chatting don’t rip into me my brothers.

I really enjoyed this. I did not know George was so instrumental in your career. How cool. I really liked what George said about being an entertainer. Getting ready to go out and play and working my way thru set lists I needed to hear that. I think I've been getting a little too wound up about it all. Time to laugh some. Right? Thanks Joe.

Early 80's, Rolling Stones in Buffalo. George opened and rocked the house. The crowd loved it. Then Journey came on. No knock on Journey, but their style just let the air out of the room. People headed for the rest rooms. Then the Stones came on. Gale force winds destroying the stage decorations. The Stones were killer.

HARD TO WATCH JOE, always watch and love your content Joe but never commented until now. have always liked George but it's bittersweet. back on Feb. 28th 2009 on a Saturday night George had a gig at the Blue chip casino here in northern Indiana and my best friend Darren who had just started seeing a gal after a terrible divorce and was starting to feel better about life had asked me if i wanted to go to the show with them, but i declined as i would have felt like a third wheel on their date together. Darren was always a big GT fan as well and was stoked to go to the gig. sadly after the gig while he was taking his new girl home they were rear ended by a drunk driver and he was ejected from the vehicle and died very early the following morning. So it's some what bittersweet when i hear or play GT music as it reminds of the loss of my best friend, but i know he loved music as much as i do and loved going to that show. keep up the great content brother! \m/ \m/

Great interview as always Joe. I thought George cut you off a lot and you are a natural at stopping mid thought and mid sentence to let him speak. I've been mesmerized by One bourbon, one scotch, one beer for decades. George should allow you to finish your thoughts because we want to hear you too. It annoyed me enough that I couldn't finish. Still, you could quit your day job because you are that good. Nah, don't quit your day job.
