This is the most expensive arcade stick I have ever bought. I have never done an Indiegogo before, but I am hoping everything goes as stated. I am soooooooo excited to have one of these.
That's awesome. I love seeing new stuff being made for Sega consoles. The arcade stick keeps the colors of the OG one too! And being usable on other devices, even better. I had been without a Dreamcast for a over year, but I finally found a worthy replacement which hadn't been sun burn to hell or smoked over and it hadn't been beat up or super scratched. I'm going to play around with it for a couple of weeks because I missed playing my DC games then send it off to be refurbished so it stays in good working order for the next 20+ years.
Nice stick. I swapped my Agetec stick with Sanwa parts and it was a bit of a PIA compared to modding most other sticks. The DC library made it worth it though.
I would have preferred having a slot for a real vmu like the og arcade stick. Other than that it looks like decent stick with a rather high price. Don't get me wrong, this is a niche product that will not be produced in high quantities, so the price has to be rather high.
I padhacked a Madcatz Dream Pad and hooked it up to a Sanwa Joystick and buttons- exact same model and color (green) that the Octopus is using. Found the Dream Pad at Half Price Books for $6 and the arcade parts were under $40 (stick and eight buttons)- Built the case from scrap wood I already had, so it was quite a bit less than $300. No backlit VMU, but I've been using a Memory Card 4x for the past decade and I guess I haven't missed using a VMU. It's been going strong since 2017. Planning on doing a full stand up DC cabinet build with a second set of parts I picked up since then.
Pre-orded this Octopus. Love how you pronounce Agetec. In my mind I always say Age-Tech I have 2 of those Agetecs I modded one with an LS-40 and Seimitsu buttons. Man it was a pain. and also the whole neighbourhood knows about it, because the dremmeling out those button holes took so long and the process was so loud. So let;s just say it was a group effort. To anyonw who is thinking about modding an agetec. Do yourself and everyone a favour. Just buy a (Hori) stick of your liking and do a dreamcast pad hack I currently really like the RAP1, 2 and 3's, but do whatever you like. Just don't mod the Agetec. I regret it. Even though it works fine now.
Looks cool but i hould not have the octopus image and i hould put 4 side buttons, 2 on each side for pinball games, one button for the flipper and the other for bump action, and they had to be assignable to whatever buttons we want to asure compatibility
@@TeamMax Thanks, i realised that after i went to the website. i never funded any project but im seriously considering this one since the dreamcast is one of my favorite consoles.
Hello, it is tournament Switch. When you disable it , it locks the Start button and some another Extra Buttons. We will add some extra buttons, thats why it is O/I/II switch
@@trfightstick Well, it's best that you use a one-way flipswitch on those situations. I usually predict that the two-way flipswitch would be used for changing analog modes. Let's say I want to use the lever as a left stick for my PS2 and Wii games. That way I can play One Piece: Grand Adventure and Super Smash Bros. Brawl as those games require an analog input for movement. On the topic of the Dreamcast, I can see that O / I / II switch being used to change to analog joystick (standard), directional buttons (standard) or arcade stick mode. Imagine playing something like Grand Theft Auto 2 with the lever to turn your player or steer your vehicle.
That is a nice fight stick that comes with a built in VMU. Too bad they didn't make one VMU that you could put in a micro SD card for save files. Another thing that would be great if the VMU was a colored screen and puts what shows up on the VMU in color. But am glad that company is making something that shows love to the Sega Dreamcast. I am a person that also loves the Sega Dreamcast. Just waiting on the wireless Retrobit Sega Dreamcast controller.
With the comment regarded the coloured screen. Surely that could be achieved via a firmware update since it's an OLED screen, buy I imagine it would be a lot of work to rework the artwork into color for each game.
@@vsuman66 It should be possible because Nintendo did it between the Gameboy to Gameboy color so having software to render color for artwork or game info should work great.
I love the whole idea of this product. Definitely up my alley. I use a 360 arcade stick on my hacked 360 in fbaNext. Things pretty good. I like the Octopus grafx and the vmu is sweetas. Yeh there’s certain systems you need an arcade stick with them. As I was saying on my 360 you get all the great cave shmups so I got an arcade stick straight away. Nice one MLP!
Might get myself two of these, especially with the RJ45 with changeable cables and built-in VMUs... + the mold is real nice too. Easy to mod and look fantastic. The one gripe, and that may change in the future... if it were to have PS1/2 & PS3 compatibility, it's going to have a need for a Select button to fully feel complete, the one button for just start makes this feel like the product is one step away from being just perfect for me. Don't know what that On/Off switch is for... but the select button could go there instead, almost looks like in terms of sizing... like it SHOULD be there instead, then move that on/off switch one space over or far away from Start & Select.
I think that one/off is for tournament lock or whatever it's called. so it locks the start button. if you pause in a tournament, you are usually disqualified.
@@tomrwills That's very nice, I still hope that the Select button is placed somewhere... we need those for some older consoles, especially for menus... and even for training mode. As well as, if you're playing a non Free Play version of an arcade mode, especially emulated, you need a coin button... and none of the face buttons should be it.
If someone is interested in Dreamcast only, he could buy 2 official arcade sticks in new condition with the same amount of money. So it would be purely an emotional buy, rather than a rational one. More platforms are supported by this product, maybe it has some additional value then but i doubt that the price is right.
You should have done an input lag test comparing a real dreamcast controller next to this-- a simple test i always is do is loading a 2player VS fight in Fighting Vipers 2 and hitting punches and kicks simultaneously on both controllers, you can instantly tell
I'm a designer and the buttons being so close to the center is bothering me. Looks like they need to be over to the right about 2.5 inches. Also the VMU should be dead center.
They hit their funding goal before my video even went live, but if you mean the stretch goals there are a couple things that would be nice if it got added.
I expected it to be more around the 200$ mark. but with its current price.. HELL NO I guess most of the money sits in that custom case. With all hardware parts being at most 100$ [aliexpress]
Wow you got one! Seems way too expensive for something that doesn’t work on modern consoles. I bought a stick case from them before and it was well made.
$300 they out of their mind? This is a basic stick with a Brookes retro inside. Honestly 150 worth of parts (if they have jlf and sanwa). Paradise even sells this shell (without the art). Vmu is novel I guess?
So its a repainted brooks retro board, emulated vmu for Dreamcast exclusively and no other purpose, standard issue arcadr stick. If you're a diehard Dreamcast user, this dtick is a no brainer because vmu storage plus a superior arcade stick to the only other arcade stick for the Dreamcast that was also shown in the video. If you want to forego vmu directly on the stick, you fan build this with the same level or better quality of parts for cheaper on AllFightSticks and you can use any layout you want instead of joystick layout. Octopus shouldve offered a hit box layout as that is the new FGC standard
I feel you, I think a big part of it is this is from a small business who is doing custom stuff... and unfortunately when its like that I know its more difficult to have a lower price as they arent getting the larger discounts a big company would get on components. There will be some who see the value, especially with the custom encoder and custom VMU integration, and some just won't see it. Just the way it goes. I do wish the price was around what you stated.
