The lead writer and narrative director of this game, Matt Sophos answered a question on Twitter that asked what did that last shrine mean? And he answered: "The larger figure behind Kratos is actually Thor standing over dead Kratos (which was in the original mural). But since Kratos changed his fate, all of that was painted over with the new prediction of his future where people revere Kratos. As he says to Freya/Mimir soon after...there is "much to do; much to rebuild." So this new future is a statue dedicated to Kratos "the rebuilder" rather than his past as "the destroyer"."
But if kratos didn't had changed his fate how did thor would have killed kratos tho because in the second fight kratos was easily overpowering thor and even spared his life and kratos was also holding back 🤔
@@vidar-9 maybe kratos mentality in the fight is what changed the outcome Thor fights essentially like old kratos brutal and full of anger and if Kratos fought the same way he would have lose cause thats "destroyer kratos" Thor wants to fight but instead Kratos chooses to fight smarter and wiser cause you see the first fight he fighting with emotions just like Thor was and he was getting handled
The emotion on Kratos’ face when he saw the other side of the mural almost had me😂😭 having played the older games, Kratos was always feared, hated and seen as a monster. Seeing people love him and appreciate him probably really touched him🥹 loved this game
Same. I grew up playing the original games and it hits so differently if you have played/grew up with and know the history of how he got to this point. He went from someone who was a monster, hated and feared to someone who is loved, worshipped and considered to be a hero.

@@tiger-rgn Yeah. Odin’s voice was kinda controversial so it’s obvious he wasn’t nominated. For me I loved Odin’s voice I just wish his writing the dialogue I mean was a bit older English. I don't know if you noticed but Sindri was using Brok's hammer and sword in the final battle. It is also ironic that the event that caused Odin's death was not all his crimes but the murder of Brok. When he killed Brok he put Sindri on the path that ended him once and for all. Remember Kratos and company were content to leave him trapped in the soul marble. It was Sindri that killed Odin, with Brok's hammer no less. The writing in this game is absolute top notch. In the first 3 games Kratos was the player character, but he was never a hero. In the past 2 games they took a destroyer of worlds and the embodiment of vengeance and turned him into an avatar for justice and rebuilding. BRAVO Santa Monica Studios..................BRAVO!!!!!
What Faye said about Grief, love and opening our hearts to the world made me cry, that moment is so special and resonates with me on such a deeply personal level. Also Deborah Ann Woll who is the actress that plays Faye is incredibly talented 😍
Side quest - If it hasn't been spoiled yet...I think you should head to Nieflheim (Near the Raven Tree), to an Asgardian Remnant. I think you'd be surprised at what you find.
I think the majority of Sindri's anger is directed towards himself. When he revived Brok the first time, he failed to get his soul's "Direction". As a result, while he's mad at Odin for murdering Brok and Atreus and Kratos for inadvertently bringing Odin into his home, he's mad at himself most of all for stripping Brok of his afterlife
One of the most genius things in this game is the timing of the revelation of Brok's riddle. "Get's bigger the more you take away = a hole". The hole was Sindri, and they just kept taking
I sobbed over it. The ending with Sindri 1000% broke my heart. I know not everything is gumdrops and rainbows, but it sucks when not every story can have a happy ending.
Freya appears chocking Odin with the binding spell noose I noticed that it was similar to Baldur and Freya's interaction in the 2018 game. The dialog is even similar. Baldur to Freya: I spent the last 100 years dreaming of this moment. I practiced everything I would say to you, every word. To make you understand exactly what you stole from me... Freya to Odin: I've spent many long winters thinking about what I would say to you as I watched you take your last breath... Baldur to Freya: But now I realize I don't need you to understand anything I don't need you at all. Freya to Odin: But now I realize there's only one thing I need you to know. You have no hold on me anymore. And that's not the only similarity between the two scenes. Baldur tries to strangle Freya to death. Freya tries to strangle Odin to death. And both people being strangled still profess their love for the person strangling them.
There are similar parallels between the moment Baldur is freed from Freya's spell by the mistletoe, and when Freya is freed from Odin's spell in Vanaheim.
The moment we march into Asgard for war I felt an adrenaline rush like I had not felt since the final battle scene in Endgame. This is one of not just greatest games I’ve ever played, it’s also one of the best sequel/conclusions to a saga I have ever seen on screen! I cried no less than 4 times at this game, both at heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. And now we have seen not only Atreus/Loki grow into his own, we have seen Kratos finally do something I thought impossible…..open his heart not just for his wife and son, but to the world. The moment he breaks down after seeing his tryptic shrine and sees that he becomes good and beloved god I cried just as hard with him. And Atreus/Loki making the decision to leave his father and journey to find the rest of his people, I was damn near broken, this must be what parents feel like when their kids graduate and leave home. The one thing that I had a problem with is that the “true ending” is with the funeral with Brok. I loved how it was done but I don’t want the conclusion to this game to be not just saying goodbye to Brok but seeing Sindri completely broken, and implying that he may never recover from his grief and guilt. But still it is a masterpiece of a game. Thank you Corey Barlog, Eric Williams and all the great geniuses behind making this game. I will treasure it always.😭😭😭👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I do know that when it comes to grief, there are often no silver linings, certainly no happy endings. You just endure, survive. I applaud the writers for not shying away from the fact that for some, they're never made whole again. It's not happy, and not what many want from their entertainment, but it's an important perspective to share. It makes me wonder what members of this team had gone through in their own personal lives to write with such bravery.

That was Jormungandr, the snake that Atreus found with Angrboda and brought back to life with the giants' soul (Presumably called Jormungandr). Thor then sent him back in time as mentioned by Mimir. Where the world serpent is now after this moment, I know not.

I really like the idea that fate is not a written truth, but a consequence of the patterns that we create ourselves. Kratos wanted to die. Faye's death weighed on him like nothing else and only his son allowed him to hold on. But gradually, as it happens with children, he began to grow and move away from his father. Left alone, Kratos can no longer fight the pain of losing Faye. Therefore, in the original version of the prophecy, he had to die: because the old man with the logs himself called death and Kratos longed for death in battle during Ragnarok. But it was love for Faye and Atreus that made Kratos grow above himself and understand that he has something to live for and, more importantly, what not to die for. That's why he stayed alive at the end of the story. Because he fought for life, not for death. Because he opened his heart to the world and was not alone with his grief.
1:14:51 No wonder Thor took so long to stand up to his father. He instantly died as soon as he rebelled against him. If your father could kill you easily like that with no mercy and zero empathy, you would be scared to even think about betraying him.

I agree with the end fight. It never captured the OG trilogy fights with the gods, they were going for a more grounded vibe though compared to the originals. Very good storytelling though 👌
Yesss! 1st! Will be back to edit when done 😆 Marz I highly encourage you to do as much of the endgame content you can... it makes the game 10 times better (especially the crater!) getting all the story. And thank you for all your videos, they have helped me get through cancer treatment the past 2 years. I can't wait for more with all the awesome games coming out next year!
Kratos has grown more than any other character in any game I’ve ever seen. These games are so emotional more than any other I’ve ever played. The life lessons in this game are so good. For the normal people in the world saying how can a game make you get emotional… they just don’t understand.
That last mural was painted by Faye, since it was the same paint from the first game with the hand marks on some of the trees. This is another reason why he was crying, because Faye helped him become someone better from his past.
Obviously the ending was perfect. We are the makers of our own fate and how it ends. We aren't born with a purpose that's a romanticize thing that people believe today. We go out there and we find that purpose and we write into it becomes our reality. Our lives our own, no one, No person or God or anything can tell or decide your fate that's all you. You gotta believe in your own power to make true the path you want if not then you will be a slave until you die. Fate only binds you if you let it.
The Bard Dwarf uses the likeness of and is voiced by Bear McCreary, who is the main composer of the game. So when he says he made that dirge for Brok, he literally meant it.
God playing this game was the best just like 2018 and the music was gorgeous but having to go at Brok funeral really was hard for me cause how much of a badass and funny dwarf he was cause he wasn’t afraid to say what was in his mind to kratos 😢 *For Brok* ✊
I loved the fact that Sindri delivered the final blow in Odin, it was so unexpected yet it was set up so well. To watch him go from a comic relief character to a broken man was so tragic, but I loved it all the same.
Btw the end game content is super dope, although probably wont be stream/youtube worthy but definitely fun if you end up going for the platinum on your own time :)
And apologies for the comment spam, but yo the Brok funeral had me in tears. And when i played it myself the first time i was unsure if SIndri was even gonna come for it given how much he was hurting but was a lovely moment and great sendoff for Brok. The voice actors, mocap team, design team, down to the music composition was so well done. Gotta take my hat off to Sony Santa Monica over and over again, its been dope to see PlayStation knocking so many sequels (sequel to the reboot that is even tho this was technically god of war 5) out the park time and time again.
This is the part of the game where I started to fall apart because I was terrified that my worst fears were about to come true when they went to get Oden. So happy it didn’t
The story/playthrough experience on Ragnarok was pretty cool, especially when switching to Atreus's perspective through out it all. Just a bit surprised at the length of the game. I'd favor Ragnarok as the GOTY but its a very slight edge over Elden Ring since that game had so many cool moments too... If ya feel like hacking and slashing again, there's always the huge side content in Vanaheim since a new region opens up over there late-game. Thanks for the streams and all the content you been putting out, Happy New Year!
Totally get Sindri's grief, but man...it's so sad to see him push away those closest to him. I get how he partially blames them, but it was just heartbreaking when Atreus said "I thought we were his family too" and Kratos says "We were."
Managing to talk Thor down. That was the point the prophecy went off the rails, and why Odin got desperate. Ironically, Kratos did what Odin had been trying to do all along - break fate. Or rather, break the self-destructive patterns and instincts driving them all.
nice vid as always the kratos painting thing shows that he is a saviour and basically a god that is loved and respected by the 9 realms for saving them in ragnarok the love part is a callback to when odin says if kratos knows the feeling of people praying to him and loving him whcih they do now also his past changed he went from a destroyer to a saviour in a way hes the new all father now
Does anybody think that Faye and Thor could be half siblings or possibly even twins? My theory is based off the fight at the Crater in Vanahiem. Thor choosing to side with Odin and the Aesir and Faye choosing to fight the Aesir on behalf of the Jotnar. It would explain the similarities between the two and why the were chosen to wield equally matched weapons. Perhaps that could have something to do with why Odin wanted to keep Thor from thinking too much and how poetic it would be that through Kratos, Faye was able to finally convince Thor to defy Odin. I'm think that was what she was trying to do by meeting with Thor in Vanahiem but failed and in her frustration with him attacked Thor which started that fight. This would also give purpose to Thrud and Atreus' relationship because that would make them cousins. What do yaw think?
@@Zed_Said lol, thor has absolutely nothing to do with faye dying. He simply saying he killed a lot, which is why Kratos swiftly agrees and says "but what will you do now"
A lot of people think the mural means a next game in Egypt mythology but I always felt it was kratos being worship as a god. He was told awhile ago no one would ever worship him but now he's worthy of people's love as a god.
Hey Marz, glad to see ya posting. I remember this stream! it was unforgettable. Such an awesome finale 🤩 I hope you had a great Christmas weekend btw! And here's to a happy new years! 🎄✨🎉🙌🏻 Gn Marz, stay awesome 🌙
I feel like she played the game but didn't really "play" it. There were times where I understood exactly what was going on, and she seemed surprised or even confused.
I would've liked that Atreus be at Brok's funeral in some small capacity. I wouldn't have him as part of the group as I don't think Sindri would've been very happy to see Atreus there. But perhaps have him on a ridge overlooking the funeral and before Sindri vanishes, Atreus would change into his wolf form and give a mournful howl. A howl to say goodbye to both of his lost friends. Brok and Sindri.
This was absolutely my game of the year, story, graphics, visuals, voice acting, music, and combat all went above and beyond, and now my quest to platinum this begins, will you do the same?
The World Serpent is the Giant put in the small Snake, Mimir tell something about that after the end of the game. Thor send him into the past and this snake wait since Loki arrived for helping him. The famous battle Snake vs Thor was this battle.
Sorry, I just don’t think God of War deserved OST of the Year. It is an astounding game….but Monolithsoft puts their absolute soul into their music with the Xenoblade franchise. They even crafted custom flutes to capture a specific sound & to make it feel more personal in-game. And they never get the credit they deserve since they help out with so many Nintendo games. They have never once earned any Game Awards awards in any category for their own franchise (the only franchise that they have left that makes up their identity after being bought by Nintendo) despite their masterpieces. OST has rarely made me cry before, but Xenoblade makes me cry every game, and sometimes multiple times a game. There’s one song in particular that never fails to make me get emotional and at least tear up to it every time I give it a listen. Xenoblade 3 deserved OST of the year, period. That is what I wholeheartedly believe, & I will stand on that hill ‘till I die. It is evident that awards can change perception on a game by the masses, and this means that, yet again, Xenoblade will not have much of a shifted opinion on since it won nothing. All because a majority of the American gamers that make up most of the votes don’t like or give Anime-style JRPGs a chance. They think they’re cheesy & fanservicy with no substance, but that couldn’t be further from the truth…
1:31:52 that scene was actually on the mural at the end of the previous game... But instead of Kratos, now Odin is dead in Atreus' arms and his soul exiting his body... Hadn't Kratos stopped fighting Thor, Thor may have killed him in the end and the prophecy came true
I wonder why Freyr never mentioned his sword at all? Or why Odin didn't tie the sword back up after Loki left Asgard? I mean that would be like Kratos losing his blades or Thor losing his hammer. You would think Freyr would mention how his sword was on Asgard being kept by Odin.

There's so much more content after the story's over ..go for the platinum ,Vanaheim (The Crater) best realm in the game!
amazing 👏
I'm assuming she's gonna in her free time, but it's obvious that she only picked up the gow series when streaming became popular
And they didn't give this game the GOTY award. What a shame.
This is GOTY in my eyes.
The Jörmungandr that fights Thor is the "new" one. He's a child at that point.
The adult version is still in Midgard during this timeline.
Thanks for uploading Marz, I've really enjoyed experiencing this game with you!
it’s very sad to the soul when you get to know the characters for so long, spend time with them, but you have to say goodbye very soon
1:14:51 No wonder Thor took so long to stand up to his father. He instantly died as soon as he rebelled against him. If your father could kill you easily like that with no mercy and zero empathy, you would be scared to even think about betraying him.
2:02:15 What A Dark Sense Of Irony A Hole Is What Gets Bigger The More You Take Away Like The Large Hole In Sindri's Heart
The snake that helps out during the final fight is the one Atreus put the giant soul in.
Wish i could go back and play this game again for the first time. Beautiful👏
You can?
Thor’s battle with the world snake was so hard he sent him back in time to Midgard
The amount of times freya saved me in the bigh boss fights with her double sword special
Son of War
Prophecy
Truth
Prophecy becomes the truth
Prophecy becomes the truth
A new journey
A new dawn, a new journey
A new sun rises
On a new world
A new beginning
A new dawn
The brave shall live forever
A new sun rises
On a new world
A new beginning
A new dawn
With honor
With dignity
With heart
The brave shall live forever
These are the lyrics for the ending song letting go translated into English for those of you that are curious
I agree with the end fight. It never captured the OG trilogy fights with the gods, they were going for a more grounded vibe though compared to the originals. Very good storytelling though 👌
14:00 that pose. The eyework. It's sooooo C. Judge
Well Done on this playthrough, Marz! And I'm so glad that you are one of the few who still likes Freya by the end. 😍
They make you love brok more giving him so much moments. Should have known by that tbh
True. We fell for it😔
"kratos you have to jump, you can't just stand there"
Hmm, yeah blame the character
Yesss! 1st! Will be back to edit when done 😆
Marz I highly encourage you to do as much of the endgame content you can... it makes the game 10 times better (especially the crater!) getting all the story.
1:19:56 Odin isn’t wrong about the wings part.
Sindri destroying Odin's soul with Brok's hammer felt so damn good.
I loved the fact that Sindri delivered the final blow in Odin, it was so unexpected yet it was set up so well. To watch him go from a comic relief character to a broken man was so tragic, but I loved it all the same.
So glad you upload the video at this hour, just when i get to work :') i can relax with some nice gameplay
What sucks is that it took seeing Sindri in that state for it to occur to Mimir that the answer was a hole.
Did you go back to Nilfheim and check on new area is Prison Wreckage? You may find someone very familiar.
No, she basically stopped playing after this. Completely half assed the game she's been waiting 4 years for.
Marz...you should play god of war 1 , 2 , and 3 to find out kratos(s) past. The 3 games is also good and has a very amazing fights and story.
Best game of all time. Best series of all time.
yes
@@extraordinarygamer937 you a real one for knowing the number 1 ❤️🫡
Sindri must also be feeling the burden of not letting brok have an afterlife, because of his selfishness
I'd hoped Mimir might get some kind of independence, instead of forever dangling on Kratos' butt cheek.
Just finished the game a week ago. Such a great game!!! By the way you are one gorgeous lady @Marz ❤
Great playthrough once again. Happy holidays everyone and cheers to 2023. Santa Monica Studios knocked this out the park
Thank you marz for let us to lives these moments 🥺 it was so beautiful ⚘🌹
Let's hope Sindri didn't enchant that hammer to destroy souls
One of the best games ever! 🎮
Merry Christmas 🎄 & Happy New Year Marz!
I wish he best for you and your family.
Greetings 😊😌
You gotta go back to the raven tree and do the Asgard rift there there is someone waiting for ya
The implication that it was Thor's fault that Faye died is what makes that last scene between him and Kratos even more heartbreaking.
@Punch Down King It's okay bud, you can just say you're not smart enough to recognize nuance in writing 🤷♂
Truly recommend to play the original Greek saga of god of war games truly hold up to this day
Thanks heaps for sharing this with us! I loved this storyline💚✌
This is the Best Christmas Present! Thank you kindly Marz!!!
RIP to the legend Odin, died trying to defend his life’s work.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Years Marz ❤
I feel like she played the game but didn't really "play" it. There were times where I understood exactly what was going on, and she seemed surprised or even confused.
Yup...
Honestly the best ending I've seen in a video game in a long time. Kratos finally got the peace he wanted for so damn long.
The World Serpent is the Giant put in the small Snake, Mimir tell something about that after the end of the game. Thor send him into the past and this snake wait since Loki arrived for helping him. The famous battle Snake vs Thor was this battle.
1:22:22 I guess Atreus wasn’t crazy about the idea of turning into Jim Carrey lol
Hi Marz and thank you for the new vid. Merry Christmas to you. I hope you had a good time with your family🥰
Everyone: General.
Freyr: Hey bud!
I love Freyr lol
Thank you for the video! Loved this story so much. 🎉
Hello Mary! Merry Christmas I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend with your family! I was just just thinking about you! Marz uploading a new episode! Happy holidays 💛
Atreus after putting on the mask... "hold on suga, daddy's got a sweet tooth tonight"
I create videogames, and if when I have a demo I'll give you the demo, I'll look at how you play to learn where in a videogame the scene has the most impact on players
Interesting to think that freya actually pickex up mimir and went to go find kratos.....
I know hes the general, but still
Kratos and arther Morgan are only two characters who made cry soo hard
That’s aged jormungandar snake from grandma’s home back in ironwood Atreus gave a soul to. Jormungandar from last god of war 2018 is from the future. And here, Thor hits the snake so hard it traveled back to the past.
