    The Badlander, Mesa’s newest Recto, is a 100-watt beast with a streamlined feature set, baked-in cutting-edge technology, and - most importantly - the fire-breathing tone that its predecessors made famous. Three selectable modes enable you to configure each channel for an array of sounds, while a 3-way power reduction switch makes achieving cranked-up tones at bedroom levels easy. This Recto supplies you with the usual EQ controls, plus a Bold/Variac switch for further fine-tuning your sound. You also get a built-in CabClone IR, a serial effects loop, a headphone output, and a 1-button footswitch.

    A big string slide and gigantic “A” chord on the nut, of course!
    Apparently, the Recto design was originally intended as Mesa’s modified Marshall offering during the 1980’s metal market, but it’s slow development cycle missed that window, and the design was subsequently modified to suit the emerging dominate grunge movement of the 1990’s. I wonder if this EL-34 Badlander model Recto is the belated result of that original intention and product, where Mesa now enjoys the matured business ability to indulge loose ends, and finally bring a legacy project to market. For some reason, probably because of the role of Boomers within the neoliberal period, I think the 1980’s is a decade that is going to retain historical significance.

    10:01 Nick's "primitive" rhythm playing is, so far, the only online demo I've seen that really makes this amp sound like a metal monster. Great work, Sir.

    Very impressed how it can get heavy tones along with classic rcok tones and the clean is very impressive too. My favorite Mesa to date. I bet they will sell a shitload of these. I'm def getting one. I have always been an EL34 guy and this one just sounds great.

    These sound too brittle and harsh. This nu djent young players obsession with “clarity” keeps going too far and sacrificing real tone and power and character/personality. 90’s 2ch Dual Rectifier is far superior 😎🤘🏻

    To me this amp is right in between two other possibly better choices. For a little more money ($250) you can get a Mark V, which has many more tonal abilities, reverb, the 5 band slider EQ, 6l6 or EL34 option and three channels. Then, if you don't need a 50/100 watts, for several hundred less ($700 less) you can get the Mark v 25, which has about the same options as this. Of course the mark 5 25 uses EL84s, so unless EL34s are a must...

    Hey, Sweetwater, I get that this is produced for use across social media platforms, and this hits like an Instagram targeted product, but at the @10:00 mark about, I don't see the "Link in Bio" for the video of the stand alone CabClone IR unit. It might be good to include a clickable link for that in the video's description, as well as having a pop-up link at that moment. And if you're hiring for social media production or editing, let me know where I can send my application!

    Can this amp take a 2x12 16ohm?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  25 дней назад

      Hi, mazklassa9338. The Badlander’s highest impedance output is 8 ohm. That said, you can run a higher impedance cab without issue. You’ll likely notice a small decrease in volume and top end presence but it won’t hurt the amp.
      Thanks for your interest!

    Would rather have a Boss Nextone Special than having to deal with the expensive high maintenance of a tube amp that weighs a ton. Let's face it, The chances of a plethora of garage bands making it to "arena band" fame is highly unlikely regardless of the level of talent. Marketing "big bad amps" is purely foolishness. I gigged for 50 years. My amps kept getting smaller. A Deluxe Reverb was my go to amp. Now my amps use "Tube Logic" and you can keep your EL34/6L6 amps.

      Everyone arguing over opinion, without a doubt, remains in the neurosis/shadowing domain. The lack of QC with today's tube is a good reason enough not using them anymore ( I know a guitar tech who has the same tubes in his marshall's since the 70's and still having unpacked tubes from same era). For low-mid gain use with feel and sag close enough to tube tone worth going for the Nextone with a good Type S guitar. The Mesa rectifier still needs the bias mod so you can choose your own tubes. EL34 for rectifier is a good idea though. I always loved this amp. Truth is most of high end modern amp are awesome. Being from 80's/90's era when we didn't have that much choice or info on internet, I think it's a good idea to buy an amp that can cover it all. Single CH or boutique that's is 85% of your wet dream worth the investment so you keep it for life. Ps.: btw, avoid Nextone Stage which is a waste of money for the lack of lows and headroom ( especially if you like to play with guitars volume) go for 80 watters instead.
