no imagino orgullo mas grande que triunfar haciendo un trabajo conjunto con una hija o un hijo.

Absolutely well-deserved. From what I could translate with my relatively limited Spanish vocabulary (six years of Spanish classes and for what?) in the original video of his performance, the conductor was actually a student at a music academy, so no wonder she's particularly overwhelmed at this victory! And she came up with one of the best arrangements to one of the most memorable performances in the history of OTI. I bet even veteran conductors would have a hard time riling up the orchestra so much that they can jump up and sing "Happy Birthday" at the right points in the song, but she and Florcita pulled it off. Last good winner of OTI, and I say this as someone whose country won the next edition!

Hey! So she's actually his daughter! He asked her to conduct the orchestra, while she was a 1st year conservatory student. So usually the presenter says "and in the orchestra, Maestro...." . She asked to not be called maestro, so the presenter said "the musical arts student..." instead.
She also recalled her dad drew the name of every musician positions in the floor, so she could learn how to direct each other by listening to the pre-recorded track.

@@RaulAPinto That's incredible! Imagine getting the chance to lead a national symphony orchestra at that young an age. That's a really clever way of developing a basic but effective approach to conducting. Admirable that he put so much trust in her to pull it off, and he must've been incredibly proud of her for doing it (and look at the orchestra standing up for her at the end!). Did she also arrange it? Also, considering how much of a boy's club these events typically are (Eurovision as well), it's doubly impressive.

(I've always wanted to be a conductor, although I'm still learning the ropes of reading music and learning about music theory, and I wish I had the humbleness to say if I ever got the chance to conduct something, I'd prefer not to be addressed as "maestro" when I'm just a student...but man, being called "maestro" sounds so cool...)

@@SuperJNG18 he did all the arrangements. He's a very talented musician, who is now serving as representative in congress.
The interesting thing is that by that time OTI Festival was not that popular in Chile, and Florcita had to ask around about who had the rights for the competition. If I'm not wrong, a TV network did, so he push them to send him, since they didn't do any pre-competition, or even broadcast the show. They said yes because he was a well known musician, and they literally had no one else to go. They weren't even interested on the show, because again, the ratings were low for many years in a row, Chile never won (since 1982) and people didn't care for OTI anymore. Everyone was surprised to know that the Festival was still on, and Florcita has won!
And about the "maestro" thing, we have that thing in Chile were we don't like, or is not cool, to be a show off. Nowadays, with all the internet culture of loving yourself, and be proud of yourself things have changed, so people always tell you that you were not allowed to be openly proud, even when your achievements were remarkable. Go figure

@@RaulAPinto Thats so interesting. Wikipedia said they were actually one of the only countries that usually did a selection show and they never withdrew. Maybe they had just stopped doing the selection show by that point?

another thing Florcita mentions in another video that, honestly, makes me choke up every single time I watch this is... that the whole reason that he wrote the song, and lobbied for his country to send him, was the fact that the real Victory for Him (even though he needed to win for his Victory to happen) was not to win 1st. Place or win the Competition over other songs.... For him, the whole time it was the Opportunity to bring his daughter and conduct the Orchestra and win, just so that at the end, when being handed the trophy, the daughter would have a split second of a chance, to look in the camera, and say the word: "Mamá". At the time, he mother was fighting Cancer and had little less than 6 months to live, so Florcita wanted her daughter's Mom, to see her on International Broadcast, winning the End to all Competitions in Latin America, so that she would leave in peace KNOWING that she was gonna be alright... That even, with 1 year of having been at Music School, she was good enough on her own that she could win the OTI conducting a 50+ orchestra. Thats why, when they win, and they come back to the podium, Florcita takes her and stands in front of the camera, and tells her to look at the camera and tell her Mother that she loves her. At this point she's looking straight at the camera, and you can see her say "Mamá". When that's checked off the list, then they step back and accept the trophies.

Also just noticed the adorable way Francisca pumps her fists at the orchestra while he's getting the trophy - like she was saying "We did it, guys!"

You can hear that the orchestra were totally pumped that she won. Even when she's embracing Argentina's contestant and like you said, Florcita gets the trophy, you can see some of the orchestra members trying to get her attention... and when they finally do get her attention, that's when she throws up her fist, to which some of the orchestra respond by getting up, just the exact same way they got up and shouted "vivo". Before she gets the trophy she interacts for a couple of more seconds with the orchestra, which in turn gives the presenter the idea to thank and mention the participation of the Phillarmonic at the tail end of the video, and that receives a standing ovation from the room.
