lin dan and lee chong wei are the greatest badminton players of all time in the history of the game of badminton
It amazing how both their games developed over time. I remember watching this game on live TV back in 2006, and thinking that it was the best match ever. Watching it again today made realised how much both of them have improved the quality of the game.
I honestly still think that this was their best match ever… never the shot quality came close to that in any other match. 1m40 of just on and on amazing rallies… this match still takes place no1 for me.
@@vmaks_official Not even 2011 world championships?
@@JohnSmith-kj3jy No I dont think so,
its very close but no.
@@vmaks_official the match is highly skillful and great but it's far from the best man like bro they both did so many error and bad placements in this match lmao. Not hating just stating facts here LD starting peak is 2008 but my favorite version of LD is the 2009-2010 dude just instantly went god mode. Even many professional players said 2009-2010 LD is peak asf.
It takes you 14 years to release the video. What a channel!
😂
yeah we all know now that UK just get 1G net in function!
@@xihaoliu1203 1G is less dangerous than 5G.
@@Koozwad Ofc its less dangerous, its like 20 bajillion times slower, i'd be surprised if something this much weaker would give more radiation. Also this isn't just 5g and 1g, (correct me if im wrong) but I think that a microwave 20 times weaker and over 10 years older than a modern microwave will give less radiation.
@@Koozwad I dunno man, i'd rather have a bit more radiation than to wait 14 years for upload or file transfer of any kind
The pre-2008 Lin Dan was great but still prone to lapses in concentration, as in this match and the M’sian Open that same year. He needed a bit more maturity. Won another world title in ‘07, and then at ‘08 during the Olympics, he went into beast mode. I’d say it was the Tang Xianhu effect, but credit to Li Yongbo who, despite knowing that Lin Dan was already great and stood a good chance of winning gold in Beijing anyway, also knew that this player has still got some unlocked mental potential left in him, and put Tang in charge of LD.
From ‘08 Olympics onwards, and some other major tournaments, including the ‘09 AE, China Open and ‘10 Thomas Cup, he went on to destroy LCW in straight sets. And then he sort of came down a step and became a half human again in 2011, which LCW said was when he himself was at his peak, but LD still beat CW more of than not all through to 2017.
The undisputed GOAT of badminton... unless someone else could match his achievements, which is unlikely, and looking at it now, the only possible candidate would be Momota, but he would need a lot less bad luck and more good fortune.
36:40 lin dan fighting the urge to smile
The left n right courts are empty. But still the fans are still watching the game until finish. Full house in semi final some more. You cannot get this kind of attendance nowadays. Both truly crowd puller. Both are legends. Rivalry like CR7-messi of football. One king of Super Series and one King of Kings.

Nobody can compare with them, especially Lin Dan, the movement, power, speed and accuracy are super insane!!!!
Lcw is Better than lin dan
@@HimAspirant Yeah lol!
@Divine Blood 28-12???????
@Divine Blood ohhh i thought it was the points in the game 😅
best of their generation
What a blast from the past. Legend vs Legend. To see them play like that and get even better is something awesome! There was so many twists and turns to the match. The old rule of only winning a point on your own serve was gruelling! Lin Dan lead the way at the start. Lee Chong Wei came back in the second. He then stormed ahead in the third. But left the door open for Lin Dan to claw it back. Epic! Now looking back it kinda summed up his badminton career. Always so close but yet so far. On Lin Dan's side, it is nice to see him the way he should be remembered; as Super Dan! 🐐🐐
It’s 2020. They are forever young at least in my memory. LCW retired and Lin D is still fighting. Thank both of you
lCW if not retired he is much better than LD in present ....LD lost his form
LD retired sadly

Legendary. Both of them
Lee chong wei has improved leaps and bounds after 2008
Love how in the “olden days” the line judges rotate around in their seatings in between matches 😁
I read all the comments ....
And here is my point of view ...
Legend Leechongwei is a legend that comes once on Earth but no more again till the end of Earth 🌍
So ... In badminton I cannot forget Leechongwei
he is such a good player who donot have a Gold Medal .... how unlucky ..
the world will remember him the best player ever ....
I think this is the best badminton match ever!!!
First like and first comment of this legendary match🔥🔥🔥thanks @AllEnglandBadminton for uploading this video
1:39:18 I believe this was when LCW was destroyed already.
Yes, totally agree. Lin Dan just above him. Lin Dan can beat LCW if he really wants to, because everything you name it are just better than him. As I see it, it is very hard or to take many years for anyone close to Lin Dan. 18 Models... correct me if I am wrong.
If it was Lin Dan he would've ended that rally. This game has so many parallels with many of the close 3 set matches they played later on, where Lin Dan does the impossible and stays in the game. LD has another gear that LCW simply doesn't have.
Only different match was 2016 Rio Olympics semifinal when LD did an impossible save and took it to deuce, but that time LCW actually won in the end.
@@user-gz7fh8vo6e Lin Dan's injuries added up and by 2014 he was no longer in his prime
LCW managed to extend his prime a few more years, and showed us what would have happened if either of these guys were playing in top form in 2016-2023.
Current players have exactly zero chance.
5:28 - right there already, two great pieces of skill from both of them, but especially from LD with that return.
Imagine a 3sets win against Chen Long in the quarterfinal and now against Lin Dan !.
Both Goat in badminton..
LCW plays too reactive. He just reacts to his opponent, whereas LD really takes the initiative and attacks. LCW just too laid back, and his mental game isn't there. Easily intimidated.
Yes, I too have noticed that sometimes, but he always amazes me with his quick reflexes.
Best Channel for badminton!!!!
Take love from Bangladesh!!
i believe there will no any players even kento momota in this world can beat lin dan and lcw in their prime form.
I'm not so sure, LCW and Lin Dan were very fit and fast in 2006, but Momota's ability to take away attacking opportunities (plus the fact that his base is so strong and he's so steady), I'm not confident either 2006 LCW or LD could've beaten Momota today.
@@ethanwu8782 LEE beat MOMOTA in 2018's Malaysia Open in two straight games even close to his retirement, correct me if I am wrong!
@@dukedave7 right but you have to remember LCW in 2018 had 12 MORE YEARS of experience playing against top competition as compared to 2006 LCW. I would also argue in 2018 LCW's physical fitness was probably pretty similar to him in 2006, so basically 2018 LCW had more than a decade of extra experience with the same weapons he had in 2006. LCW in 2006 would not have that knowledge advantage, and therefore I'm not certain at all he was better than Momota then. Also if use your logic, Momota also beat LCW in 2018 in the Indonesia Open, so if Momota could beat a LCW in 2018 (a better LCW than 2006 LCW) wouldn't that mean Momota would destroy 2006 LCW?
@@ethanwu8782 Unfortunately, those are all "what it's", because in real life it's impossible to happen. Actually, CHEN Long during his prime from 2014-2016 also played fairly stable, winning multiple major titles.
@@dukedave7 none of your responses have been responding to my arguments I'm confused as to why you keep replying
Semi final games was worth to watch compared to final
Really awesome match. Tension till the last point. But in this same manner the 2008 Olympic final didn't go. That Olympic match is one side.
And the 2012 Olympic final is the most interesting and tough match like this one.
Back then, when only points on own serve used to be counted.
That's why I am confused
36:37 wtf
This is to show LD (or the Chinese team) has learnt that LCW usual shot when being pushed to the deep forehand corner is a straight drop. LD still expose this 'weakness' of LCW during the legendary 2011 World Championship final, I guess it is hard for LCW to change the habit even though he knows LD and Chinese team realize this is his usual return. He gave a come back during Olympic 2016 though by doing a cross court drop, surprising LD when he was trying to be preemptive and thus won the semifinal against him.
Ya, i think LCW has certain consistent way of playing and that was read by LD. LCW is "naked" mentally in front of LD.. LD can read his mind and attack his weak points. LD's stares and strong urge somehow is giving a negative pressure towards LCW's mentality..they have totally different characteristics..
Legendary men at their 👌 best ...what a match
17:00 badminton insight?😮
That time lindan are solid attacking and dgood defesive....his speed are aazing
At 14-14 set 3, LCW's coach was saying "defend against his backhand", probably talking about LD's smash against LCW's backhand. The camera was on LD's coach so we know if wasn't him.
The difference between them is Lin Dan has stronger mental strength. That's all
Super Dan!
Actually did anyone notice that there was too much ego in this match (2006) between both but now in 2020or 2019 their respect between both is lit❤️❤️💯🔥💯🔥🔥
1:41:23 No shakehand omg, so heartbreaking for him
More clips like this pls
Li Mao, LCW's coach at the time, was yelling all throughout the game.
Lin dan was just on another level...lcw was legend no doubt but when it comes to win lin dan is really superdan
23 and 24 yrs old respectively.
Saya suka gaya bermainnya Lin Dan
3rd game at 13-7, LCW should have gone on to win the game. Suddenly he lost his composure, made silly mistakes, unforced errors & wrong judgement many times.. i dont really see Lin Dan making huge effort to fight back. Its almost like LCW just didn't mind to give away the game. What a pity !
This is the difference between him and Lin Dan
He was pretty tired already. You could hear the coach/crowd shouting "tahan" in BM which meant presevere. His body language showed he was tired and he did not have the mental fortitute to hang on.
@@xiexiemaster Somehow what you said didnt quite make sense. Tired? You are 2 points away, you are professionally trained & you are playing All England final. Unless he was down with an injury, I dont think tiredness is a good reason for him to play shabbily. There wasnt any sign of fighting at all ! Im sure you have seen many players who were tired but they fought all the way to win. Take Foo Kok Keong, one of the many examples. Anyway, Datuk Lee is my hero no matter what, but this game didnt do justice for the Malaysians at that time
BananaBoy78 Member it’s just my opinion. When u r tired u make mistakes. Take a look at the game again. U can tell from lcw’s body language.
Only one thing differentiated LD nad LCW, and that was always the mental power. LD far more superior than LCW in that particular area. Otherwise only a thin thread was there to differentiate their skills..
of course this is coming from "MATHEMATICAL THINKING" lmao. But yea i agree
The problem of Lee Chong Wei playing against Lin Dan is not about the "quality" of his game,it is all about his "placement" of the shuttle which is not to the right place and this makes Lin Dan always capitalized.
I would say that Lee Chong Wei is very good at his defence and technical side, and Lin Dan is very good in smashing and tactical game. So both players are at par.
It seems that Lin Dan knows Lee Chong Wei's game quite well, but Lee Chong Wei,after so many times 'fighting' against Lin Dan is still searching for Lin Dan's weakness. I think Lee Chong Wei's badminton coaches have the problems for failing to identify them.
Lcw doesnt even wanna shake hand lol.
Yep, he was absolutely destroyed
2006 lin dan looks like he's always pissed off
No mercy from him. His testosterone must've been pretty high.
@@RingoStaAna Nah, hormones control how merciless one is during sports.
So Lee was losing to Lin from 2006 at match points..🌝🌝🌝
57.16 is it right ?
Imagine leading the deciding game 13-6 with just 2 more points to end the match. However, he completely lost it without winning any points. He must have felt arrogantly comfortable initially and soon lost his focus and confidence when Lin Dan closed the gap. He finally gave up and surrendered easily, probably due to fatigue and lost of hope and fighting spirit for not taking advantage of the chance when he was leading 13-6. In this match, pride was his downfall. As far as technique, skills and stamina are concerned, LCW was ahead. But when it comes to strength and mental tenacity, Lin Dan has the edge. LCW had to go through a lot in life, the tide was always against him but he never gave up. To be cont'd.
Nice.
Best match

@@User_39sankyu Yeah in 2012 - 2016 their very experience so they play not hard work at all but they use the strategy

Lee Ching wei 13-6 still lose!!!!!!!wtf!!!!!!!!
this is main reason he can't win world champion and olympic gold medal. Mentality and spirit of winning lost to Lin Dan.
Moral of the story: do not hit a cross court shot to LD’s overhead.

Lol who tf can play like this? Now we see why LD and LCW are the only two on par with each other. Their physicality and stamina are monstrous. Playing almost 2 hrs in this sport professionally will kill them lol

they count completely wrong in the third sentence. even though one makes a point, the result remains.

If the scoring system was changed to 21 rally point, it would be like this:
LD vs LCW
Set 1 21-15 (interval 11-7)
Set 2 19-21 (interval 11-5)
Set 3 17-21 (interval 5-11)
LCW would be a winner
The playing strategy would be very different mate.
