Thank you Brian… I can’t always get on the PC and therefore don’t see the comments folks write. Just got over the sinus infection from hell and COVID that’s why I haven’t posted anything for awhile.. I’ll be posting another tune in open C soon. “ Shes Got the Money Too” by Uncle Dave Macon. I’ll use it to explain two finger styles and Clawhammer - knockdown style like Uncle Dave is using in that song. Thanks again. Hot Dog!

Thanks for this. Extremely helpful. I've watched hours of different tutorials nut this one finally gave me the understanding how to play stuff and how to practise. My family will be delighted for hours of badly played Twinkle :D

Thanks Don for your prompt reply.. I’m trying to divide the practice between guitar and banjo.. I try to stick with you as I do to with other tutorials.. I like of simple and easy you make the lesson..👍
Yeah, I'm your 1000th 'scriber! Been playing guitar and bass for years and decided I needed to add a new instrument to my arsenal so I opted for a banjo. I have to tell you it's kicking my ass! This single video nailed it on the head for me. I'm trying to decide which style to attack first. Never knew how many styles there were. I'm a huge Keith Richards fan so I know all about open G tuning so that was a blessing. Now it's getting my fingers and thumbs to learn the synchronization of banjo. Florida resident now, former NoVA resident (worked in Rosslyn). THANK YOU!
What are you tuned to here sir.. I am oldtyme beginner tuned presently to double C. gCGCD I am having loads of fun with this tuning so far. I figure I can clawhammer and combine two finger together over time.😊 Thankyou for your videos sir.. signed beginner..😊

I play string instruments and love it and I appreciate your turorials
Hello Jorge… Thank you for reaching out. Contact me via Banjodaddy@hotmail.com. I’ve curtailed my private lessons because of COVID but can help you out via FaceTime if you’d like. I hope to again begin my private lessons when things get better. Lived in Alexandria for a long time too. Love them both. I was the resident banjo maker at the Torpedo Factory Art Center when it first opened in Old Town Alexandria. I remember when it was a blue collar area.
I play clawhammer and have been looking to segway in to 2 finger. I have to say that I’ve learned more about 2 finger in this video, than I have in the weeks looking for an answer to my question.... can someone post the basic technique of the 2 finger thumb lead style? Thank you posting this. 👍
I’ll be posting another recognizable tune for those interested in two finger thumb “lead” or, as I often refer to it “ thumb dominant “ two finger old time. As some of my other videos have demonstrated, a two finger old time style can also be “ index “ lead” where the majority of the melody is being played by the index finger. Then, one can mix both styles at will when you’ve become practiced and muscle memory kicks in. Hope to post another soon. Because some folks have contacted me about this subject, the next video may contain a little rehashing of what I’ve said before, but forgive me that. Stay safe.
Mind b!own! I have played with thumb melody since I started playing. Adding the two drone strings is brilliant. Never heard it explained so well.
Best introduction to two finger thumb lead I've found. Thank you.
