The Low Workbench 2.0 - A Mini Woodworking Bench with Lots of Features
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 11 июл 2024
- Here is my new mini workbench, a combination of the first version and the lately planing board I did. Now it includes almost all the features I need in one tool, surface planing against planing stops or between bench dogs, straight edge planing, which can be used for both Western and Japanese planes, and a vise.
It can be either clamped to an existing table or bench, or can work well too above friction pads, when not too much force is needed.
Plans and ready made workbenches available on my store here www.adrianpreda.com/shop

I'm a full time RV'er you just saved my "living room" I made a bench inspired by yours. Thank You.
Awesome little bench! A very clean looking and well thought out design. I love the sliding dovetail planing stops and the swappable shooting board rail
The most versatile mini workbench I've seen so far. Top of my list to make because it has all those little very functional features. Thanks for sharing!
A perfect example of compactness and functionality.
Thank you for the beautiful work!
Special thanks for the links to the tool used!
Adrian you did a amazing job on the new small work bench you seem to never forget all the little touches that make it incredible, thank you for sharing all of your hard work with us,all the best to you and yours
Thank you Ron! This was much simpler in fancy useless details then the previous, but the wood selection also helped more to make it simple and good looking. Thank you! All the best to you and yours too! Cheers!
Dear Sir,
A simple yet elegant workbench beautifully executed which I am sure will give the user a life long enjoyment. Kind regards.
Many thanks again for your comment! Yes, hope many lovely boxes will come out from it :)
Always a pleasure my old fruit. keep up the great work. Kind regards
It was a pleasure to see someone pay so much attention to detail. Well done.
Bravissimo! !!! Sia per il lavoro che hai realizzato e sia per il montaggio del video... complimenti
That is a thing of beauty in itself! I imagine how uplifting must be working with this - creating beauty with beauty. Well done Sir!
WOW! Knowing you have such a small work space it amazes me what you produce. I can't wait for your shop tour.
Thank you Melinda! Yes, hope by the end of summer to be ready with it.
Now preparing the cutting boards :)
This really beautiful tiny workbench and very useful too.. This is real inspiration since i have very low budget for now 😎👍
Thank you! And also for watching! Good luck making one and lots of projects on it afterwards🙂
An excellent build, very complete for such a small bench! Really well thought out!
Very good. I like the way you added the side rail to make it work like a shooting-board as well.
Thank you! Yes, is mostly for edge planing, but if I keep the stops squared to the side can shoot 90 deg too, but I prefer using the dedicated shooting board, cause here with too much shocks can destroy those sliding dovetails stops
Clever. You surprise me with the side shooting attachment. Been following for a good while. Thank You.
I love this channel, not just for the awesome work you do but for the sweet tunes.
This is one of the best projects I have ever seen on YT. Good work.
Thank you!
Thanks dude, you're inspiring all guys like me that doesn't have space for a real workshop
Thanks too! Nice to hear that! There is no limit, I did woodworking in the living room, then in the bedroom :) Everything is possible
So good, so clever, so perfect. I couldn't stop watching.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Your channel and builds really stand apart from some of the other maker channels. You are really inspiring!
Very nicely done. Might even be the inspiration to my next shop build. 👍
Besides the fact you build cool stuff, film yourself building cool stuff and edit scenes together that require to REwatch yourself building those cool stuff, i realize you're also a funny guy. This vid is TOP!
Thank you lovely Cristina! Thank you for your nice feedback!
excellent style, execution, editing, shots etc. So beautiful. Really enjoy your channel.
Thanks for the feedback! And for watching!
Very nice. A lot of great features. Thanks for sharing.
Good job ,Adrian! You video skills and woodworking constantly improved! I like some "behind scenes" at end with DIY slide rail as well.
Thanks Igor! Yes, I will try to add more from now on, there are a lot of these :))
Beautiful as always! Your videos are so captivating, don't stop! The anti racking jig is an excellent idea.
Thank you Cris! Ahh, still a lot to work to reach your videos level :) Yes, that jig is very useful. Just that I've made it with 3mm thick strips so I don't have too much intermediate range. 1mm ones will do better, maybe from plastic sheets, similar to the commercial one that Veritas sells.
When you clamp in the vise a small piece, on one side of the jaw, the other side will have no support, so it will bend/twist/rack, so the vise's thread ane rods will break in time. With that you distribute the force equally
I just like this little work table awesome job especially making it into a shooting board great idea
Beautiful work and an great idea! I love how it's basically a multi-functional shooting board!
Thanks! Yes, basicaly a shooting board with a vise😀
Wow that vice anti-racking jig is genius!! Thanks for sharing! Also love seeing what you’re capable of in (what appears) to be a small space.
Thank you! It's not my own invention, there are several comercial ones, Veritas makes it too, but is very easy to make and very usufull. Indeed I do have a small space, like 3x2m, 10x7ft.., after working before in the living room or the bedroom😀 After I arrange here a bit, I will make a shop tour!
Another good example of a less-is-more style. Well done, Adrian!
Thank you Marco!
Am in awe of your craftsmanship and enjoy watching your videos over and over again. Would really like to see how you made your 45 degree shooting board for the building of your keepsake boxes.
WoW!! That is absolutely beautiful!
Thank you!
Came out great! Love the craftsmanship and the little details. Awesome mini bench.
Thank you very much!
This video and YOUR work is JUST BEATIFUL. Thk for sharing and don't stop :)
Never heard of Iroko wood before. Learned something new!
A beautiful piece of work!
I love this little bench! I’ve seen lots of designs, but this one takes the win for sexiest!
A great reason to have a low work bench is that once you decide you need something different, you haven’t invested a lot of money into your old one. Looks like you even harvested your old vice! Great video once again!
Thank you! Yes, true, actually I will build soon, maybe next month a proper workbench, anyway still small, but is taking more to design it based on my needs, and future ones, than it will take the build itself :)
Man this video is all around stunning. I know mine won’t turn out this nice, but I think I’m going to try making one this weekend. Thank you for sharing.
Cool filming and demonstration.
Bench turn out to be almost to beautiful to use ;-)
Good job buddy!
Thanks man! Yes, it was a thrill :)) Same I said with the first bench, but after the first saw scratch, didnt cared too much :))

Update 2023. Available also ready made workbenches for sale www.adrianpreda.com/shop
There are plans available for sale of this workbench! You can check them out on my store
I bought your plans a week or so ago, literally stumbled into some perfect wood when picking up a used scraper. Bumped into the guy's project wood he was selling (didn't know) and hit a slab of ash, perfect size. Snagged a teak slab too. Gonna mod your plans, add a moxon vise on one side, and the bench will be a little wider (10-11"). It'll have a 7 1/2 " ash centre sandwiched with 1.5" teak, ash feet and probably teak for the moxon and edge planing guide. I'm really looking forward to making this bench. Thanks for the plans and inspiration!
@@BenKingEagles Do you have a picture of the finished project? Would love to see how it turned out.
@@sjenmax It isn't finished yet, been spreading myself a little thin of late. Here's a link for a pic I threw together: photos.app.goo.gl/osG49DKipjS6AsKh6
I don't want to make this too complicated, but I want something useful enough for me to be able to work inside without needing to switch to my balcony for single tasks. So far I've been using it to build a Krenov Plane and I've been happy.
Notes and to-do:
- I have a brass rod coming which I will cut into dogs and add a diy magnetic pop up mechanism. I'm fiddling with click pens to see what will work best; I'm basically going to copy the Lee Valley magnetic pop up dogs as mush as I can.
- The vise has been faced with alder (I think, it's a scrap of unknown origin) and leather attached to both faces using 2-sided carpet tape. It's a tiny detail, not really noticeable, but the dog in the vise face is mahogany and birdseye maple, more scraps.
- I am trying to design legs that can rotate and be tightened with a cammed lever so I'm looking at the lever and post for front bicycle wheels. The lever would sit recessed in the bottom of the foot, with the post extending up the leg. I think the easiest method would just be to cut the top of the leg at an angle, so that the lever pulls the top slice down and the angle causes it to bind on the walls of the recess.
- I need to sort out the moxon and planing guide. I'll likely put them on opposite sides.
- The moxon vise needed some thought: I need good screws on a budget. I saved the vise screws from an old Workmate bench; it was far cheaper than trying to source acme threaded rods.
@01yala there's not much that's changed. I've got 2 feet on it, just teak blocks, while I fiddle with designing the rotating legs. The brass rod never arrived so I've gotta find a different source. And no moxon vise yet. I have way too much on my plate right now so I can't say when I'll make any large progress. Thanks for the interest tho. When I do work on it I'll try and remember to shoot you a reply
@@BenKingEagles I bow.
So far the doodles in my head are using milk crates (that, uh, we just happen to have sitting on the balcony) at the base for my {eventual} seated work bench.
Create the bench as something that registers off the milk-crates for a tight fit.
Make this thing completely portable - i.e. working in deserted office parking lots on the weekends Carry a minimal kit of saws, planes, chisels and such in a re-engineered med sized suitcase on wheels.
The table top (with a refurbished vice) can be stored vertically in a closet, with the tool suit-case right beside it with the basic hand-tools to do the job.
And if you want to get all fancy... get one of those Jackery-type Lithium Battery systems. Get a portable battery system that can run 120 drill and saw (that way you don't bug the neighbours with sound complaints)
Which is also a useful set-up to have at the ready... if you just happen to have friends who live in the country... and you offer to help cook something for supper...
Check out Rex Krueger's videos on how to create a 30$ {'Roman} Work Bench". I love it when good ideas overlap. Thank you Youze Tubes algorithm for 'randomly' popping this vid into my eyesight...
