- I made a tabletop mini workbench!
I was thinking what I want from a workbench by checking my past messy projects and came up with an idea to make a Japanese Atedai style workbench with bench dog holes.
Now, I need to make some attachments...
Oh and during the project, I actually bought a 2ft straight edge!!

I made a step by step bowtie inlay video for beginners! Please check it from the description if you are interested in it:)
I agree with your handsaw comments. I’m trying to teach myself woodworking and started with a circular saw. I started using a Japanese style pull saw (JPS” because of positive comments from you tuber’s. Anyway, I have found the JPS extremely satisfying to use. It is also helping to improve my accuracy in cutting straight.
Thank you for the comment! Yeah, I think some people don't believe in the accuracy of hand tools in general but in reality, unless you use super expensive machines that are not built for hobby, hand tools can handle things better in terms of the fabrication quality.
If a person has good hand tool skills, he can also use cheap machines to roughly fabricate a product and then finish it with hand tools for speed/quality and this is where I'm looking at:)
Another awesome build. I'm glad I found your channel. I've really been enjoying your videos. I love seeing a beginner who isn't afraid to try using advanced methods. You seem to have a natural talent.
Thank you! I believe trying my best is what I can do to entertain people who spend their time on my videos and I get happy when people give me some feedback so I'm doing my best! It's simple:)
Very good-love Japanese style woodworking; it’s so precise and elegant.
Thank you! I hope I can get the precision and the elegance one day:)
each video, your skills get better, this little workbench is impressive. the mix between western and japanese styles makes it super functional
Hi Michael! I'm not sure how much improvement I've made on my skill but at least I always tell myself I must improve my skill for people who watch my videos! Thank you for the comment and the motivation.
Your bowties are cool, but your sliding dovetails are cooler.
Thank you! Either way, I need more practices:)
This is great! I really like the simplicity of the design. Drilling a hole for the curve in the legs was a nice trick, too!
Thank you! This bench is small but really handy:)
I like the simple, clean look of the mini-plane board, but I might have liked the inclusion of those cute farmer figures most of all!
Thank you! After using the bench for while, I found It's very functional and oh, I remember I bought the figure for this video, haha.
Oh wow what a fantastic bench! This is such a good video!
Thank you! This was my first work bench and it was a game changer:)
Beautiful work. I appreciate your humility too! Thanks for being so transparent with your process ❤
Thank you for the comment. If you didn't blink, I'm sure you would have seen more mistakes.
Very nice- keep up the great content!
Thank you for the encouragement! Yes, I will:)
Great bench, great video, and your english is great.
Thank you! I like learning new stuff and I enjoy woodworking/video-editing/communication :)
The bow tie was amazing! ^^
Haha! Thank you for being nice 👍
This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!
Hi! I've been struggling with my life ever since I was born, haha:)
Love the bench! Every new video is so much better than the previous.
Thank you! and ah the pressure is on for the next video, haha:)
This made me smile many times for many reasons :)
Thank you for the comment! I'm not sure about the reasons but I'm happy as long as I made you smile:)
I love your videos! Always entertaining and inspirational! Keep up the good work!
Thank you, George! I'm planning to make more videos in 2023!
Excellent build! Like the fact you showed and explained your mistakes aswell as the end product which came out really well!
Cheers from London 👍🏴🇬🇧
Thank you, A BC from GB! To me, the project wasn't as easy as ABC so yeah I can't help making mistakes:)
Nice work and video. Love your sense of humor too!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy my other videos, too:)
I think your bench and work is amazing! 👏🏻👏🏻
I am sure you will have a lot of fun using it!
Thank you. You'll see if I enjoy using it as long as you check my future videos, haha:)
My small apartment workbench was a game changer. It makes my hobby so much easier and more enjoyable. Hope you will find yours usefull. Keep up a good work!!
Thank you, siekson! I surely remember you told me it made your woodworking easier:) As for now, I think this workbench will help me with most of what I want to do but I know it's just until I want to make something that I can't even think of now, haha!
Very nice video! ❤ Finally, a person, who is working with handtools! I do it as well... In some videos, people use 10+ electrical devices.. For same product.. Electrical gadgets are good, if you have room for them, but: produce much more uncontrolled dust and possible errors.. And are also noisy, what disturb neighbors.. Work with hand tools is slow, so you have time ti unify with wood.. For me, it is like write a poem or pray.. Thank you for wideo
Thank you! I have nothing against power tools but I just enjoy the process of the fabrication with hand tools. It's just fun and I think it's not as tiring/slow as people think though I'm still slow. When I started this channel almost 2 years ago, I was more like a beginner DIYer and now I'm more into woodworking with hand tools because, again, it's fun:)
@@YRTi Agreed. I am also not against power tools, also have them.. Just: this type of videos are mostly for inspiration of hobbies or amateur. As is me. Some pro has a equipped workplace and will use power devices, what is understable, because time is important if somebody produce for customers.. But exist many people, who for himself want to do something, and do it in kitchen, or garden or garage.. So if I see some videos, where are big machines used, or welding, I am just sad, because I can not use it.. And pleased, when basic tools are used on small place.. 😉

Beautiful work bench 😊
Thank you for the compliment! It's at least functional:)
Beautiful work!
Thank you for coming back and the comment:)
This is great, good job!
Thank you for the compliment!
Very nice! Came together well and you clearly have a lot of wood workin' talent!
Thank you! You gave me motivation to keep going:)
Very fine work! You did not need them but the bow ties were nice. What made me watch the video was the sliding dovetails. I like you saw jig, I’ll have to make my own.
Thank you, Michael! The saw jig does work but depending on the wood species, depth and grain direction, it's actually not that fun to use... I have a new idea so hopefully, I can make version 2 soon!
Awesome build, I look forward to watching it get put to use!
Thank you, Chris as always. I started to like working outside for a dust cleaning reason so maybe you'll see me using it on the ground like Japanese craftsman, ha!
@@YRTi haha I always had hopes of working with my garage door open on my shop, and being able to wheel tools out front when it was nice... I've got insulated moving blankets hanging in front of the door and I don't think I've opened it in 5+ years lol
You have a nice professional shop and you don’t have to worry about the dust in your house! Me, oh my wife, haha!
@@YRTi I used to lol my shop before my current one was a spare bedroom in the house we were renting. Sometimes I miss those days, because I felt like I got way more projects accomplished than I do now lol
Good job, sir. Thanking you for extending innovative idea of Japanese style woodworking bench. Domo Arigato Gozaimasu.
Thank you! It's just a mini bench but after using it for almost a year, I found the plane stops on the edge are very handy:)
@@YRTi O hayo Gozaimasu, the idea of the skills crafted the mini bench inspired me sir. Respectfully yours.
excellent workmanship
Thank you! Hope you enjoy my other videos, too:)
Nice! Good work.
Thank you! It was fun to build:)
Way to go YRTI, Yes it is really good to see your skills develop, with each new project. Your video skills get better also. 3 Cheers from Canada.
Thank you! I'll keep learning new things and now I'm brainstorming for the next project to entertain more people hopefully!!
Very nice work. I believe it will serve you well.
Thank you for the comment! Yes, now I can't do woodworking without this mini workbench, haha!
God bless the Japanese. They do make beautiful things. I want to build a bench similar to yours. Great job.
Hi, Robert! It's been while and I thank you for giving super kind comments as always, haha!
@@YRTi watching your woodworking skills progress is lovely to see. Well done buddy
Greetings from Australia.
What a great design and well done.
Love how this lifts everything up off the bench.

One Handed Maker
Thank you! I've been doing woodworking on a glass top table but now I have this workbench! Don't tell me it's still on the same table, haha:)
Love it
Thank you!
Great video.
Thank you for leaving a comment! I got motivation to finish the next video!
Nice 👍 🎉
Thank you!!
i like your good work and i am happy to find your YT-chanel. Greatings from Germany👍
Thank you for finding this channel, my dawg, haha! The new one will be coming soon:)
Very good to see and the fusion of traditions makes it super useful. About to subscribe. Greeting from Scotland.
Thank you, Norman! I've been using the bench for a few months by now. It's small but it's useful and it's enough size for what I do:)
I love this!!!
As always, I appreciate your positive comment! Thank you:)
@@YRTi you have great projects. I really like the sliding dovetail jig. I may try that one when I can get my worktable built.
Oh the jig can do the job but it's pretty tough to cut wood... I really gotta make ver. 2 soon but there are more of other things I need to make before that...
Excellent! just what I needed, good video! Domo Arigato!
liked and subscribed!
I'm glad that you liked it! Thank you:)
Thanks!
Wow, I'm the one who needs to say "thank you" to you! I'm so honored:) Again, thank you so much!
I too am not a fan of Bowties. So, I will be very glad to say most complimentary things about you work without them :>). Your English is great, your wood working is even better. Keep up the good work. Cordially, W. David McGuinn.
Thank you for the kind words! It's all about to enjoy learning new stuff:)
Thank you for showing and your teachings I learned a lot! By the way I only work with Japanese hand- and carving tools. 🙏🏽⛩️🎏
Thank you for the comment! it sounds interesting that you only work with Japanese hand tools! So far I happened to work with only cheap tools, haha:)
great video. I like that you show your mistakes.
Thank you for the comment! I tell people if I hid my mistakes, there would be nothing I can show in the video.... haha
@@YRTi Keep up the good work. I like your aesthetics and the style of your videos.
😎👍
Hebat, telaten sekali. Saya suka liatnya.
Salam kenal saya dari Indonesia. 🇮🇩🇮🇩👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! I've been to Bali just to watch Kecak, haha:)
@@YRTi Ya betul... Salah satu pulau Indonesia terbaik adalah bali.
Nice one! I’m in a very cramped space and should probably build me something similar. It just needs to be somewhat poundable and easily stowed away when I need to get out of my shop.
Oh, almost forgot, nice job on the bow ties. 😬👌👏
Thank you for the comment here, too! Before making this one, I didn't even think I needed one but now I use this workbench all the time. I hope you will make something better!
@@YRTi Thank you. Ill make something adequate that fits the purpose and does the job. 👌
That's Great!! I'm looking for some small workbench for woodworking in room.
Hi Pollop! Thank you for the comment. I want to tell you that you should think how you want to use your workbench before making it especially when working in a limited space like me. Most likely making it won't take that long time but ideally, you want to use it for long!
Love the comment about the bowties mate 💀 Seriously you are doing great work here, thanks for sharing!
Hello! I’m glad that you liked my video. Not gonna lie, I actually found out a bowtie isn’t a difficult thing!! Thank you for the comment.
@YRTi it's a wonderful feeling when you try something new like that and it works out well ❤️
Can you please tell me what you used to finish it?
Thank you for the comment. I used a mixture of walnut oil/beeswax/carnauba wax that I made:)
Done and Dusteru
Thank you for the comment. I have no idea what it means though...
I like. But not really a Japanese 'plain' board since you decorated it with dog holes. Japanese 'enhanced' board. Good presentation. God bless.
Thank you for the comment! That's why I call it as a tabletop workbench "inspired" by Japanese plane board:) The stoppers are so useful!
Fruitful because it subtracts nothing. It only adds. I loved your video.@@YRTi
Thank you!
Please buy some boots - these were created for a reason.
Thank you for the advice! I'm inspired by Japanese Sashimono woodworking people and they historically work bare foot for convenience:)
Thanks!
Thank you, too:)
Oh I didn't realize the super thanks thing. wow. Again, thank you so much.
