Well done Samantha!! An era of such amazing detail, full of elegance and beauty. You make things so interesting for me as an 'intruder' in your world. I could listen to you all day. I know you had issues with technology malfunctions but what we have here is 'digital' v 'vintage' and I think digital may have become a little envious. Wonderful video! Loved all the patterns and the dress you are wearing, you look beautiful! So interesting about the platinum blond of 1930s Hollywood. Dying my hair this week, but a bit afraid of bleach!
Thank you very much Masha. I think hair dyes are vastly improved now! Poor Jean Harlow said Hollywood wouldn’t have been aware of her existence were it not for her hair. She must have been desperate when it started to disintegrate. Anyway, don’t think about that! You will be using kinder dyes and I’m sure you’re not aiming for platinum! ❤
Hi Sam, Another great video and, once again, you look wonderful. What I found interesting is that each sketch also contained a small illustration of the back of the garment and that so many of them carried the gorgeous details onto the back of the outfit. Today we have an overwhelming amount of "coffin clothing" ie all the detailing is on the front and the back is plain. As you were talking about each outfit I found my eye drawn down to the little sketch showing the back of the garment and I was so interested to see what wonders they included on the back. Given society's propensity to fast fashion and poor quality fabrics and construction that leaves a lot to be desired, it will be interesting to know what history makes of this fashion period in 100 years time and any of those garments are still in existence and being treasured. Sadly, I doubt if society's currebt attitude to clothing and fashion will be held up as something to be admired.
I hadn’t heard the phrase ‘coffin clothing’ but that is a very good word for it! As for fast fashion my mum volunteers in a charity shop. When I was thinking of starting this channel I thought I might do the odd ‘thrift flip’. But my mum says they are swamped with unwanted clothing, all of it in the cheapest, most awful fabric. Nothing you’d want to waste time refashioning. At the same time she says people are throwing away sheep’s fleeces as unsaleable. I don’t understand why we don’t have more woollen fabric. And then there’s the way fast fashion makes clothes that don’t fit anyone well and lack the kind of detail clothes had in the past. I can see that some of my vintage dresses have been altered and repaired many times over. They were worthy of the effort. I think you are right - history won’t judge us well. By the way, I love the illustrations of the back of the garments as well - 30s clothes often had rather striking back views (all the better for making dramatic exits!!) Thank you very much for watching and taking an interest. 💗🎀🌸

Thank you for your fun video. The 30s fashions must be some of the most feminine and glamorous ever, at least the styles of Hollywood and high Paris-London couture. You look great so 30s….👏and the dress looks lovely on you. But please when wearing hats of the period please wear them more to the front and tilted, with hair pulled back to a chignon or tight curls… ♥
Thank you very much and for watching! Yes the 30s silhouette was long and slender (ideally!) though apparently women’s average height in the 40s was only 5ft 2in.
