Just to add, listen to the bass part played outstandingly by Michael Shuman (Mikey Shoes), just left me as a bass player gobsmacked and I've been trying to work it out all day!!
He's a quality low end slinger. That's for sure. I love his melodic lines and how he usually plays an octave higher than most. I prefer that style. Like Trevor Boulder in Bowie. I tend to play that way because it sits with the guitars better, giving a old skool vibe.

It's exciting to me to hear him as a "main character" in this song. Queens has a sound that, in the more recent albums, is so sonically layered and full that the bass often takes a backseat. He gets to show off a bit here, and I love it.
@@fl0nk11 Absolutely! He is on full display in "Emotion Sickness" and I hope that spotlight continues in the upcoming album. That said, he has always weaved some really detailed and complex basslines in the past couple of albums especially. Micheal's voice is getting more notoriety as well as he has a range similar to Josh's. Queens is always a fantastic experience and live they are truly unreal, I have not seen another band so musically proficient except for maybe King Crimson. Troy and Dean are superstar musicians in their own right and both multi-instrumental, in fact with the exception of Jon Theodore (who is an Amazing drummer) all the members of the Queens are multi instrumentalists which always bodes well for us as consumers of their music. I am eagerly awaiting my copy of In Times New Roman which along with the Foo's and Garbage's new works will be dominating my playlists along with a few lesser known but still amazing bands like Black Honey, Sweat and never to be left behind, ever,...The Hives, all of whom also released new music this year!

Great breakdown. Rick Beato’s breakdown of “No One Knows” is also awesome; most notably for highlighting the orchestral track in the last interlude after bass and guitar break. It’s so well hidden in the song but once you hear the French horns and strings by themselves you’ll never not hear them in the song.
John Theodore is a God. On the drums, I mean. Also he's a very smart, nice, kind, funny dude who also happens to be really, really, really good-looking. Not like that matters 😂

Love what you said there "one foot in the chaos and one foot in control". That almost summarises QotSA. I love the utter genius of this band and I finally have my ducks in a row to see them at Cardiff. Love your work too Justin! Here & on stage - get back where you belong ❤
Qotsa is the best of our time.
na it's viagra boys
@@professorpancakes6545 oh shit, thanks prof.
@@professorpancakes6545One year later, my response to you, the true in rock music is nobody come close to Joshua Michael Homme III and the QOTSA, they are the shit. Bad hass band and musicians...
They’re so good! This song is full of luxury and sport features. Nicely equipped .
Josh absolutely slays on the acoustic version of ‘A Long Slow Goodbye’ as well. Amazing catalog …….
Really great track. Spontaneous but grounded. Great tone and catchy as Hell. Looking forward to Times Roman.
Lol, the fadeout caught me off guard too. Justin, you make every reaction video so much fun. A true front man!
Agreed..It's a Brilliant piece of work for sure..I like the bit where they're mimicking old 70s/80s Europop Dance Beats with the Octave bouncing thing in their riffs.
Interlaken Switzerland..! stayed there on a school trip when I was 16. Remember a hotel at the end of the main street has a downstairs venue for bands. Best holiday of my life at 16 ( 1971 ). Discovered Furstenburg beer. Such memories. Small world really.,....like the track too, going to listen to it in full, thanks for great memories and a top start to the weekend.
Silverchair had a song called emotion sickness in the early 2000s
Was hoping someone would mention this. Still a great song too, I listen to it often (along with the rest of Neon Ballroom and Diorama).
Such a great song.
Such a great band.
Great song.
Yup, that was my first response. Love that song.
I’m so pleased they’re so consistent I don’t mind waiting 6 years a time when it sounds so beautiful
They've been unique, authentic, wild, sexy and hilarious continuously for over 20 years. In their own league. Never disappoint musically and sonically....can't WAIT for the new Album and this Chuuune is on repeat since it dropped.
I feel that all their albums stand alone in one way or another and hands down one of the best live rock bands in the world currently.
Not enough words to describe how good this band is
Love this song!! I can't remember what year it was but I saw QOTSA in the Button Factory in Dublin years ago with a load of Kyuss fans, was the biggest band I'd seen at that time and was brilliant, such a small venue too!!
This is great. I love QOTSA. I especially love how Josh Homme ues chorus harmonies and kinda soul sounds.I agree, no other band sounds like them. They're amazing! Fantastic live too!
Gotta agree J it’s brilliant and got me on the first listen … they never fail to inspire me, this tune has made my year, and it’s not been a great one so far … so I needed it … we all needed it !
Cheers
Great overview. Another QOTSA smash. Oooh, new album. Tour, please.
I've really come to enjoy these videos. thank you again
Heard it, love it. Like anything QotSA really. Fresh, the perfect combo between ‘I sat by the ocean’ and ‘Smooth Sailing’. That bend-riff tho…
They do that cool thing, actually leaving out a lot with all the stops. Only one other band I know that does it this well: De Staat.
I wouldn't mind a weekly 15-20 min "new rock releases commentary/analysis by JH!
Great review mate. QOTSA are my favourite band.. off the seen them in Amsterdam in November can’t bloody wait!! 🔥🔥🔥😎😎😎🙌
JUSTIN, "Edgemanship at the Abyss" is probably your most profound and poetic assessment of a band, and QOTSA nonetheless. Thanks for all the joy you bring to music.
A room full of books, a baby-faced Justin and Queens of the Stone Age! I was having quite a horrible day and everything in this video just improved it significantly! Thank you for the ray of sunshine 🌞
Mine’s still horrible, but it is what it is.
@@SuziQ. I'm sending positive vibes your way! 😊 Hope it gets better soon

Thank you. One of my dogs has to go back to the emergency vet. She needs the good vibes. 💙

@@SuziQ. 😟 oh no! I hope she gets better soon.
*In Times New Roman* is an album that is LONG overdue.
I have been famished for new music.
Lucky enough to get a ticket to see Queens at the Piece Hall in Halifax at the end of June. This song has got me extra pumped!
@@haitchkay Indeed, and then he can turn around with Mini Mansions and become their fantastic guitarist and co-lead singer!! The kid's got some amazing musical chops!!
Love to watch Justin react to great music. He seems both mournful yet ..galvanised. ❤
Really love the personal message in this, letting go of past loves. Still, without being a tacky love song
Love QOTSA. Badass band with badass songs
Thank you sir; I had heard this yesterday, but wasn’t sure, but your review opened it up for me ...., brilliant. The video is SICK.
Great upload Mr Hawkins.
Love QOTSA.
You’ve got outstanding charisma Sir.
Your hair is growing out nicely. Always intrigued by new music.
Great stuff and another classy watch 👍
the slide guitar is just so good, troy van leeuwen and Josh Homme in the same band...what can you say?
Mark Lanegan.
What other band do you like Troy in?
@@carwash9333I think Troy was touring with Jane’s Addiction last year when Dave Navarro had long covid. Troy was in A Perfect Circle for a while back in the day too.
@@carwash9333 I like the first Gone is Gone album. Not a APC fan at all anymore, liked them at the time. His best work, by far, imo is with QOTSA
Technically he didn’t record on it but he made some cool leads live as a touring member,
But Failure’s Fantastic Planet is a kickass album.
Great breakdown. Rick Beato’s breakdown of “No One Knows” is also awesome; most notably for highlighting the orchestral track in the last interlude after bass and guitar break. It’s so well hidden in the song but once you hear the French horns and strings by themselves you’ll never not hear them in the song.
this is the episode I was crossing my fingers would happen. Justin reacting to one of my other favorite bands :)
Drums are so good, on all of their albums. Their guitars always sound like nothing else.
John Theodore is a God. On the drums, I mean. Also he's a very smart, nice, kind, funny dude who also happens to be really, really, really good-looking. Not like that matters 😂
Love qotsa, glad Josh is doing better
I've had this song as an earworm since you played this. Thanks Justin, it's sublime! From The Knack to CS&N in one song, awesome!
Have always loved The Darkness since day 1. God knows why they aren't as popular as in 2003. A genuine British rock band with a lead singer that can sing like a trooper. 👍🏻
Will continue to watch the mighty 'D" every time they do a UK tour......although Sheffield has missed the last few gigs 😂.
Excellent song. Excellent Band. Only quibble is the name. For me, 'Emotion Sickness' will ALWAYS belong to a classic track by one of Australia's Greatest band. Another brilliant episode Justin!
ruclips.net/video/xHDiN10CDj0/видео.html This is the silverchair song
Love the channel Justin. Love QOTSA. The only band I've seen multiple times. Great to have them back. Cheers fella.
Love queens so very much. Love the new album... I really hope it doesn't take so long for the next record!!!!! Love your channel justin!!!!! Keep kicking ass!!!!
This song is a cornucopia of the best of 70s and druggy music, it reminds me of falling in love with drugs. I hear The Kinks, Queen, T Rex, Led Zep, Early Steely Dan (1st 3 records) in the vocals, the short reverb on the vocal reminds me of the John Wetton sound on Red by King Crimson.
Love that natural light coming into the window. You look fabulouuuuus!
I love the new song. I love the bass in the song and especially in the parts where Josh doesn't sing. Gotta give some credit to Michael for the beautiful plays (also loved the bass parts live and on Villains). You also need to listen this song with good headphones, that makes it ten times better
Thanks
Thanks Brian!
I never thought I'd see Dandy Warhols and QOTSA comparison...but I get it!
Brilliant song.
Pervertigo! 🤣🤣🤣love it!🫡
Joshes a genius✌🏻✌🏻
