with the chokes removed are you pushing all the muck and crud in to the threads of the barrel ive all ways been told to leave chokes in clean barrels then remove chokes and clean chokes grease and replace

With the extended chokes in, the gun will not fit into my cabinet. I always put oil into the end of the barrels before fitting the chokes.

@@Bassingtons Store the gun broken in half then? Really bad for the choke threads to clean with chokes removed

Peter, you are absolutely correct in assuming debris will be pushed into the internal threads of the muzzle. Take the choke tubes out and concentrate on them AFTER cleaning the barrels to ensure nothing is lodged in the threads, eg cloth fibres/tiny shards of bristles, crud etc..
Everything else in this video is spot on

    Great video. Thanks.
I understand the notion to keep the chokes in while cleaning the barrels to prevent dirt from getting into the barrel threads, but...my 12g bore brush will not pass through my IM or Full chokes, which is usually what I have been shooting. Thoughts?
I therefore take the chokes out first, scrub the gun barrels, and then pay extra attention to cleaning the barrel threads. Not ideal, perhaps, but seems to work.
Suggestions on how to do it better?

I would use a microfibe cloth and just carefully run that around the barrel threads.

Tip : Release your hammer springs (snap caps) so your firing pins are as far forward as possible before cleaning your receiver. This prevents crud being pushed into the firing pin channel via the breechface, which in turn may lead to soft primer strikes, and less disassembly and aggravation cleaning the channels from the other end

I am having a light strike problem now with my 694 after a "deep cleaning' of the action (stock off) so I must have gotten junk in there and/or attracted junk by lubricating. And I cant comfortably figure out how to take the pins out to clean them so I am taking it to the 'smith. It has less than 5-6k rounds so I cant believe they are worn already. Got 4 light strikes in one 100 bird SC event last weekend - both barrels too.

I suggest you don’t spray solvent on you action as it’s a barrel cleaner and I would leave your chokes in while putting the brass brush in the barrel because you don’t want any crap going into the threads where you chokes screw into and I would remove your ejectors after every 1000 shots fired and I would also fold your barrel cloth in half and push down the barrel and then turn it over and do it again

Bassington I wish I could do gun cleaning in the kitchen but that will never happend due to "the home minister" . I recomend to remove the ejectors once in a while to get all the crud out.

Saluti dall’ Italia .
