    If your choke tube is frozen in the barrel, get you a medicine bottle or cup that will be long enough to cover the threads. Then get some kroil, fill the cup or bottle, stick the barrel upside down inside the cup or bottle. Leave it for 2 to 4 days. When you come back the choke tube will unscrew out the barrel.

    I’ve used this process since your last cleaning video, the otis products are great. I bought the bore cleaner liquid and fill a small cup and soak the piston that work pretty well. However, the clp wipes have become my favorite, one wipe can clean a gun inside and out after a hunt and quick shoot.

    After I saw you with Jerry shooting the 940 GM Pro. I bought one last month. It took me a while to find one new under 850. But I did.
    I was wondering if you could do a basic cleaning tutorial on that shotgun. I have seen complete disassembly with Jerry & his daughter, but I find it very difficult.
    Cheers

    I like to pull my mag tube assy apart to make sure I don't have any swamp stuff and grit in there that inevitably finds it's way in during time in the field. Make sure she feeds those shells properly and helps prevent wear between your plunger and mag tube.

    Good info on Otis products, much appreciated. But I will say, if anyone thinks you're getting 1500 shots out of that 940 pro before a cleaning, you're smoking something. Mine barely went 300 before it began to malfunction. I really like shooting the gun though. Great balance, swing, low recoil, etc.

    I used to use CLP on the gas system, but have gone to leaving all the gas parts dry. Oil plus hot gasses make lots of carbon. I’ve noticed a lot less buildup since running them dry (gas system).

    • @ashtynkroeze5892
      @ashtynkroeze5892 Год назад

      What does leaving it dry mean? You just don’t do anything with it? I just bought a gas shotgun and am looking for what to do with the piston.

    • @patrickbrophy5310
      @patrickbrophy5310 Год назад

      @@ashtynkroeze5892 most modern gas operated semi auto shotguns are “somewhat” self cleaning. Meaning, the carbon will build up for a bit, then stop. I use a toothbrush with solvent to clean the piston. It won’t be spotless and does not need to be. I clean the magazine tube with solvent and a green scotch brite scrub pad (only if there’s a lot of build up). Lastly I use solvent inside the gas ring attached to the barrel. Then I wipe all the solvent off everything and install them with no lube on anything. The only place I put lube is on friction points inside the action. Gas system stays dry. Excess oil on the piston will create a carbon mess.

      Depending on brand some say not to put anything on them.

    If you use a garbage can, don't use a garbage bag and if it's a plastic can line it with shop rags. Some of those cleaners dissolve or loosen plastic. I use a metal paint tray and lean the barrel end in the paint tray and I have a magnetic barrel rest for the top after I spray it.

    Hi Steve, Love your videos and even the older ones with Gould Bros. But, the reason I had come to this video specifically, is the question of "greasing" the piston. would you grease the piston and tube instead of just using an oil???

    From my experiences from cleaning gas guns is this…only apply oil to the bolt slide action. To make it slippery. Oil on the gas system-mag tube just creates more buildup of crud. And harder to clean in my opinion. I just wipe down the gas system with gun oil rags to keep from corroding. Not so much lubrication. But my experiences 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. Inertia guns like to be slippery in all aspects unlike gas driven guns.

    How often should we clean our shotguns so they last as long as possible?

    • @chiya2006
      @chiya2006 10 месяцев назад +1

      It depends. If you abuse it for duck/geese hunting in rain, winter, high humidity,damp conditions, then do it as soon as you’re done with it for next hunt. The reason is the dirt inside parts attract moisture and they can get rusty easily. Plus it performs smoothly as moving parts have no restrictions and the gas system is free of carbon buildup in auto loading guns.
      But if you’re only Turkey/ or deer hunting, then at the end of season is good enough. Although some people have a hobby of cleaning it right after they come home. Which is a good practice too as you know the toy is always ready . Just in freezing conditions try not to over oil moving parts, they might get freeze up on you as the oil gets thick, preventing the parts from moving ESPECIALLY “ the firing pin”.
