    as someone who studied Ainu for a year in university, I love this new appreciation for Ainu thanks to Golden Kamuy. i had no idea it was big enough to have an impact Japanese slang like this

      ​@@scriptingjapan essentially on tumblr way back when to identify other tumblr users they said you were supposed to say "i like your shoelaces" and if the other person was actually a tumblr user they would respond "thanks i stole them from the president"

      @@scriptingjapan it’s a pretty old thing. If someone saw someone else in person, and they thought they were also active on the social media tumblr, they would say “i like your shoelaces.” If they responded “thanks, i stole them from the president” then it would be confirmed that they are a tumblr user. It has nothing to do with food
